The summer season is the time we get out our American flags and show our patriotism and allegiance to our country. Many of us decorate the outside of our homes with flags and buntings, but what about bringing some of that great American spirit inside our homes too. The fourth of July is right around the corner, so to bring the July party indoors, I’ve created a simple patriotic centerpiece with things I have around our home.

Red, White And Blue

Raise your hand if you’ve ever found it challenging to decorate your home in red, white, and blue. Well, you’re not alone because I can totally relate! I don’t have many red or blue items in my home, which makes it a bit tricky to embrace the spirit of Independence Day using patriotic decor. But we are red, white, and blue at heart, so I want to bring some patriotic flair into our home for the upcoming patriotic holiday.

Simple Patriotic Centerpiece

Crafting a simple patriotic centerpiece is a easy when you use items around your home! Let’s create a festive look effortlessly!

What I Used To Make The Centerpiece

My goal was to create a red, white, and blue July centerpiece using flowers from our gardens and things I found in my kitchen, and of course, a couple small American flags too! This centerpiece is on our dining room table and is the focal point of our dining and kitchen area.

Grab A Basket

A basket is an important part of this table decor because it corrals all the things in it and defines the boundaries of the vignette. Choose a basket big enough to hold everything comfortably. For this red, white, and blue centerpiece, I chose a round basket. A round basket fit the round dishes I was using beautifully!

The Table Runner And Napkins

On our table, I laid down a fun white table runner with blue ink spots I’ve had for years! It has a casual look that works with the casual, happy mood of the centerpiece. If you have a blue and white tablecloth, you could use that too. I think it would look nice if it were laid on a table askew, keeping the look of centerpiece informal.

I pulled out a stash of my blue and white cloth napkins and found one that was white with a few blue stripes. I lined the inside of the basket with it and let a couple of the corners drape over the sides of the basket.

The Dishes

As many of you know, I LOVE dishes! Because this is a dining table patriotic centerpiece, I grabbed red, white, and blue dishes and stacked them. For me, there is almost nothing as beautiful as a stack of dishes! Isn’t it amazing how ordinary dishes can take on a patriotic look? Don’t underestimate the power of a stack of dishes, my friend!

I also added a trio of blue and white striped mugs to the basket.

The Patriotic Bouquet

This time of year, the flowers in the garden beds around our home, in the pots and containers, and in my raised cutting garden beds are riotous! The horrid hot, and muggy weather has not set upon us yet, so everything is happily growing and blooming.

The flowers in the centerpiece are very simple, like the rest of the centerpiece. I chose red roses and geraniums, blue hydrangeas, and red dianthus. I also picked blueish-purple salvia, but I did not like the way the blue of the just starting-to-bloom hydrangeas and salvia looked together.

I cut the flower to fit a small white container with a stylized hobnail design and added a couple of small American flags to the arrangement. The flags are the only overtly patriotic thing in the centerpiece. However, the colors in the centerpiece are unmistakably patriotic!

A few more dianthus blooms were added to a funny little blue and white bud vase that matched the mugs in the centerpiece.

The bud vase is placed on the stack of plates to give the patriotic centerpiece a bit of height and fun.

More Decor To Use

If you would like to create a simple patriotic centerpiece for your kitchen or dining room table, here are a few other things you might want to use…

  • flowers from a grocery store or faux flowers would work too.
  • Mason jars as a container for flowers
  • a jar of patriotic-inspired paper straws
  • a glass bowl filled with red, white, and blue candies, and let family and guests help themselves
  • other patriotic decor like faux fireworks and ribbon in Americana colors
  • white paper stars to your centerpiece
  • a wire basket filled with baseballs

Other Patriotic Holidays

This is the perfect centerpiece to make to celebrate Independence Day, but there are other patriotic holidays this centerpiece or a version of it would look nice in your home. Don’t forget Flag Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.
