It’s officially summer! And that means getting ready to celebrate our All-American 4th of July holiday! Independence Day is a holiday that makes summer a time to wave our flags and join in the festivities! Don’t let this summer lazily slip by without partaking in some red, white, and blue fun! Here are 1o ways to celebrate July 4th!
USE RED WHITE AND BLUE DISHES!
Get those pretty Americana dishes out of the cupboards and decorate with them. I know you have some fun dishes that would liven up your summer decor! I love to make a big vignette of red, white and blue dishes on my kitchen table! This is the time of year to use them proudly!
And don’t forget all your red white and blue linens too!
PLAN FAMILY SUMMER GAMES
Plan some fun events and lots of great food for your July 4th celebration. We love bocce ladder ball, football and a competitive game of “white” croquet on the side lawn! How fun. Ask all adults to contribute to a potluck so not all the work falls on one person! The main idea is to have a plan! Start now to plan out those special times so they don’t slip by!
Here a picture of white croquet at StoneGable a few years ago! I’m not in the pictures, I seem to always be the picture taker!
DECORATE WITH PATRIOTIC THEMED PILLOWS
Salute summer and our Independence! And start by decorating your home with some great themed pillows. Don’t you love the American Flag pillow? Bring a little of our favorite colors into your home using pillows!
Don’t forget to add a stunning patriotic wreath to your front door too!
Make these fabulous, Patriotic stars now and keep them up all summer long. Here’s an easy, step-by-step tutorial! No-sew so, sew easy! What a great way to celebrate summer and all the red-white and blue fun!
SEE A FIREWORKS DISPLAY
Hang your American flags and let them wave! We fly a big flag from our front and side porch. Just remember there is a protocol for handling and hanging our Old Glory so treat it with respect.
GO ON A PICNIC
What is more fun than an old-fashioned summer picnic! Grab some great portable food, some simple yard games and don’t forget the American flags to wave proudly! Celebrate al fresco with family and friends!
GO TO A PARADE
We love parades, especially the ones that are homegrown and local. Make sure you invest in your community by going to a parade! Our local community has the best parades ever! Lots of veterans and remembering those who sacrificed for our country as well as fire engines, civil war reenactors, a queen waving to the crowd, scout troops, local school marching bands, antique cars and all kinds of patriotic marchers! It’s a time of meeting and greeting friends, drinking coffee and wearing patriotic colors!
Don’t miss the slice of Americana in your local community!
MAKE THE BEST SUMMER FOOD
July 4th is the perfect time to make some scrumptious, fresh and fun food! No fussing either! We like easy and tasty. Here are 10 BEST 4TH OF JULY RECIPES. I love potato salad the best! YUM!
VISIT A NATIONAL TREASURE
Celebrate our nation by visiting a national shrine. We live about an hour away from a National Cemetary (my dad is buried there) and visiting on July 4th makes us proud to be American! Our country has a distinct and amazing history. It is certainly one to be cherished and celebrated!
Many buildings in Washington DC are free. What a fun thing to do!
So, what are you doing on July 4th?
