ON THE MENU #220
Happy New Year’s Eve, FRIENDS! Whatever you do please stay safe. I’m having a New Year’s Eve dinner and slumber party right here at StoneGable. Just a few close couples enjoying great food, a bit of bubbly, fun and games (Mexican Train Dominoes, of course), a good night’s sleep and a big New Year’s Day breakfast. Sounds like fun, right? Wishing you the best New Year yet! Now, here’s what’s on the menu…
MONDAY- NEW YEAR’S EVE
This New Year Eve we are having a slumber family! Just a few couples to ring in the New Year and stay overnight for a fun evening of games and laughs! I’m making a beautiful boneless rib roast along with lots of easy to make food that looks like I’ve been cooking all day! Be smart about what you make when you have overnight guests! Make it amazing but easy on yourself. Things like make-ahead foods, deli hors-d’oeuvres and bakery case desserts. We also set up a self-serve bar with bubbly, mixed drinks and non-alcoholic beverages.
- GARLIC STUDDED RIB ROAST
- BAKED MASHED POTATOES
- ROASTED GREEN BEANS WITH BACON
- GREEK CHOPPED SALAD
- MIXED FRUIT TART
TUESDAY- NEW YEAR’S DAY
Our tradition here at StoneGable is to eat pork and sauerkraut on New Year’s Day. I LOVE this recipe from The Suburban Soapbox. It hits all the right notes for a fabulous pork dinner! I love the idea of deglazing a pan with leftover champagne! Brilliant! The only thing I do differently is I don’t wash the sauerkraut. I love its briny taste.
- ROASTED PORK AND SAUERKRAUT WITH FENNEL AND APPLES
- LEFTOVER MASHED POTATOES FROM YESTERDAY
- HOMEMADE APPLESAUCE
WEDNESDAY
I actually have all the ingredients for this chicken in my frig and freezer! I’m using up what was leftover from Christmas and am creating new meals for the next week or two.
Serena Bakes is one of StoneGable’s Rockstar Foodie Blogs!
- SUN-DRIED TOMATO SPINACH ARTICHOKE CHICKEN
- NANI’S SAUTEED RICE (LEFTOVER)
- PERFECTLY ROASTED ASPARAGUS
THURSDAY
Trout is an amazingly delicious fish. And it is rich in Omega 3. I’m very careful where I get my fish. I only go to grocer’s who are knowledgable about where their fish is sourced and how it is kept if it is not wild. So I know I’m eating clean and my food is not putting toxins in my body I do not need.
If trout is not your thing, try this recipe from Julia’s Album with Arctic Char.
I made this Asian Chopped Salad Christmas week for a lunch and I had leftover ingredients I’ll be using for tonight’s dinner. This is my favorite Chopped Salad from Cooking Classy!
FRIDAY
This is such an oldie but goodie StoneGable recipe. It’s great for company! And easiest enough for a weeknight meal. One big tip… make sure to buy “all butter” puff pastry. What a difference. It is a bit more expensive, but you only use one small square per person. My choice is Wegman’s or Whole Foods.
I am opting these days to buy already chopped fresh onions and celery to make cooking a little easier. I am not a “chopper” and I don’t like how the chopping machine makes the veggies look.
SATURDAY
I love the sound of this recipe from The Weary Chef! I’m taking New Year’s Day leftover and turning it into a scrumptious 15-minute chili! Perfect for a laid-back Saturday! And I can eat a cup for lunches too!
- 15 MINUTE PULLED PORK CHILI
- NACHO CHIPS
SUNDAY
I am addicted to anything Karina from Cafe Delites makes! I made her Garlic Butter Tuscan Salmon for company a few days ago but I used Cod instead of Salmon. What a hit!!!! I can’t wait to try tonight’s dinner! YUMMY!
TREAT OF THE WEEK
My mom made this recipe in the ’70s and it’s been a family favorite ever since. We had it for Christmas dinner and she froze the rest. So we will have it again (oh yes!) on New Year’s Day. If this recipe is not in your culinary repertoire! It’s a classic, easy and SO delicious! Thanks, Jenn at Mother Thyme for reprising this amazing blast from the past!
Have a beautiful and scrumptious week!
Your beef brisket was a hit again for Christmas dinner for the third year in a row. We had my sister and brother-in-law and my daughter’s in-laws as part of our guests and they were delighted with their first time enjoying the brisket. I hope to try your pork recipe. Happy New Years to you and your family. Again, thank you for “On the Menu.”
Thanks for sharing a weeks worth of yummy recipes and I can not wait to try all of them . Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year
Happy New Year, Theresa!
These all sound delicious! I’m going to work on making fewer carb meals for January because, well December happened. Ha
I’ve tried just about everything! I’m going with everything in moderation.
I also wanted to comment on your Holiday brisket. Every bite was eaten. Made it the day before Christmas Eve. Put some out on a buffet on Christmas Eve . And then again some on Christmas Day with our deep fried turkey and sides. Just a tiny bit was left and I came home thinking I’ll make me a sandwich and my oldest son had beat me to it. I had never made brisket. It was easy and good. Thanks so much and happy New Year.
WHAT??!
No black eyed peas for good luck on New Year’s Day!!
Happy New Year‼️
I wish you and your family a most Happy New Year Yvonne!…..May it be the most beauitiful, happy, healthy and successful 2019!
We are with friends at the lake playing dominoes too! Love the game! Looking forward to seeing what’s next at Stone Gable in 2019! Peace and blessings. XOXO.
Hi, I seem to have lost a great chili recipe that you posted in September/October (I think) of 2017. It was an awesome chili recipe and I have looked for it on your site and pinterest, but did not find it.
If you could help me, I would very much appreciate it. I remember that beer was an ingredient, if that helps, at all.
Thanks so much,
Cathy
HiCathy, it must be in an On The Menu. I’ve tried many chili recipes. Sorry I can’t pinpoint the one you want.
