Your Best Weapon

When things get tough in life remember you have a powerful weapon. Prayer is your best weapon!

What do you do when you feel hopeless? Not just having a bad day but when you don’t want to get out of bed or spend your day wishing you could go back to bed and start over?

My heart has been very heavy this weekend.

I know someone that I hold dear is going through an awful time right now. I feel powerless to help this person, for the battle they are fighting is a heart issue.

There is nothing I can say or do that will help or turn things around. So that makes me sad and anxious and worried!

What do you do when you feel helpless and weepy and powerless and heavy from the emotional burden of loving someone who is hurting? Here are two things to keep in mind…

Only years and the faithfulness of God have taught me that how I feel does not equal how things truly are! Feelings can be very fickle! And most of the time feelings are not a true or correct barometer of what is really going on in a set of circumstances.

But what I know about God and His word and His promises are true. In fact, they are the truest of true! They can be trusted. They do not change. No matter what the circumstance!

EVERY WORD OF GOD IS TRUE, HE IS A SHIELD TO THOSE WHO TAKE REFUGE IN HIM. Proverbs 30:5

TRUST GOD

The first thing to do is to trust what God says is true and don’t give way to feelings. Period! That does take discipline and a conscious effort. It does not mean that we can’t be sad or upset or HAVE feelings. It does means that we will not TRUST them.

Now here’s something that seems so backward to me. When we need God in our lives and the lives of others we often do everything but pray! Prayer becomes our last resort when nothing else has worked. Plain and simple…

PRAYER IS YOUR BEST WEAPON.

Especially praying God’s word!

FOR THE WORD OF GOD IS ALIVE AND ACTIVE. SHARPER THAN ANY DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD, IT PENETRATES EVEN TO DIVIDING SOUL AND SPIRIT, JOINTS AND MARROW; IT JUDGES THE THOUGHTS AND ATTITUDE OF THE HEART. Hebrew 4:12

God’s Word is a weapon. A weapon for both defense and offense. It is a weapon that is for us to use against evil! It is alive!

God’s words are alive and they are active. Productive, filled with energy, and at work.  God’s words are powerful tools for us to use!

Prayer is not the last resort, it should be the first!

THE PRAYER OF A RIGHTEOUS MAN AVAILS MUCH. James 5:16b

This scripture says that the prayers of a man or woman, boy or girl who claim Jesus as their Lord and Savior have amazing power and their prayers can accomplish much!

It’s the idea that our prayers get right into the fray of a situation and bring combative strength and force into a circumstance for the will of the Lord to be performed and accomplished. Now that IS doing something. Something great!

PRAY WITHOUT CEASING

Prayer is the best thing we can do and should be the first thing we do!

The best thing I can do is to pray and speak the word of God over my life and others!

I need to remember when I pray God is working and active with power and might! Not only is He working in my situation but He is refining me to His will also!

As I look expectantly for an answer to my prayers I remain connected to the source of comfort, peace, and love!

SOMETHING TO REMEMBER

God is not here to do what we say. He is not our magic genie. He is the LORD, the owner and creator of the universe.

He has THE plan! He works His marvelous will. Our prayers are to cast ourselves before the Throne Of Grace.

And we should always pray that God’s will be done. It is the best for us and others. No matter how God answers our prayers we must remember…

AND WE KNOW THAT ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD FOR THOSE WHO LOVE GOD, AND ARE CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE. Romans 8:28

So in every circumstance pray! No matter how sad or unhappy or worried or depressed or heartsick you feel! And pray without ceasing!

And wait expecting to see God’s hand in your life in a big way!

This week’s memorization verse:

THE PRAYER OF A RIGHTEOUS MAN AVAILS MUCH. James 5:16b

  2. Gail True says:

Amen! Thank you for speaking truth and pointing us to pray in the power of Jesus’ name. Also, be encouraged…taken from author Jenny Albers: “When someone is broken, don’t try to fix them. (You can’t.) When someone is hurting, don’t attempt to take away their pain. (You can’t.) Instead, love them by walking beside them in the hurt. (You can.) Because sometimes what people need is simply to know they aren’t alone,”—“Love your neighbor as yourself” Romans 13:9

  3. Such a powerful message and reminder of what JWD in a worrisome situation!

  4. Lord, Father, God, I just lift Yvonne’s friend up to you. Please bless this friend and minister to their heart. If this person doesn’t know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, I ask that you work in their heart and draw them to You. And if this person is already saved, I ask that You use this circumstance to draw them into a closer relationship with You.

Lord, I also lift Yvonne up to You. Thank You for all of her wonderful Sunday posts, which so bless my heart. Please minister to Yvonne’s heart and help her to trust You totally and completely. Please fill her with Your peace, which transcends all understanding. Please fill her with Your comfort and let that comfort flow out of her to her friend.

In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.

  5. Thank you, I needed this today. My heart is very heavy for a family member. I am reading scripture and praying. I appreciate the encouragement you have given today.

  6. Kelly Ueber says:

This is so encouraging to me today as I am having one health issue after another. As a intercessor myself I can pray for others so easily but when it comes to myself sometimes all I can say is help Lord! Thank you for bringing life to me today! The Lord bless you with peace as you pray for your loved one. You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3

  7. This was such a timely reminder. My husband lost his job this past week and we like millions of others were a paycheck to paycheck family. With no savings and no income, I have to admit I have not used my best weapon. Been caught up in feelings & fear. Time to redirect & use my greatest strength & weapon prayer.

      1. Julie, during the course of my husband’s career, he lost his job on multiple occasions – never because of him or his performance. God has promised to provide for all of our needs, and he knows that your husband needs a job. Trust in His promise to provide. In our case, the next job the Lord lined up for my husband was always better than the one that he lost. “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and don’t rely on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.”

  8. Thanks for sharing this today! I really needed it. I just drove my daughter to Oregon this weekend to start a new job. She is only 21 and is alone! So, I am a nervous mom! But I believe in the power of prayer and my daughter does too! I know God will be with her.

  9. 10. Prayer without ceasing is definitely the best thing to do. We have been praying for our Son and Daughter-in-law for over 2 years who were struggling with infertility and their prayers have been answered. They are expecting their miracle. There is power in prayer.

  11. I love your Sabbath day messages and look forward to them each week. Thank you for the time, effort and faith you put into each one.

  12. Yvonne, I will be including you and your friend in my 3:00 o’clock prayer to Divine Mercy today asking that your friend is able to accept the outcome of whatever transpires. Handing over our wants to God is not easy but with His Grace it can be done.

  13. Thank you Yvonne. I really really needed this and the Lord gave it to me through you at just the right time.

  14. Such a good reminder to practice faith over fear. A quote I like is “when David faced Goliath he didn’t talk about how dangerous Goliath was – he talked about how great God is.”

  15. Kristi ingran says:

Love looking for patriotic porches led me to your battle cry post! God is good. Praying I see this life through Gods eyes!

  16. Thank you for this. My heart is so heavy. My brother is terminal with cancer, and we’re nearing the end. I have been praying for the last two years for God to give him complete healing. And it looks like He’ll do that when he calls my brother Home soon. Knowing my brother knows the Lord is a huge comfort. And a lot of times when I am praying I feel like I’m all over the place in my words and emotions. And sometimes I’m crying so hard I’m not sure God can understand my words. But if anyone can, He can! We are not promised a lifetime of smooth sailing. What we are promised is that God will be with us every step of the way. And how precious is that?
