The north western corner of our farmhouse porch is a great place to relax! Do you have a special place you like to hide away when you need a little time to yourself? You can find me on my porch swing or here, sitting at the little mesh table overlooking the fields beyond. I’ve poured some homemade sweet tea and cut up some ice cold watermelon… so come meet me on the back porch!
Today is FARMHOUSE FRIDAY!!!! The farmhouse girls are showing off their farmhouse porches! You can visit my friends on their porches at the bottom of this post!
Welcome to my back porch! This is the place I go to spend time with God and do devotions every morning… at least when the weather is not oppressive. It’s where Bobby and I have dinner in the evening and where I often blog.
When we built StoneGable we had no idea how windy it would be on our land. The big north and west winds roll across the field and often assaults this corner of the house! But when the winds are quiet this is absolutely the best part of our whole wrap-around porch!!!
Because my home is a MODERN American Farmhouse I decided to make the porch bright and dramatic and filled with easy care pieces.
The amount of dirt we get from the fields all around us is nothing short of biblical! I can use the blower and the hose on the porch in the morning and by afternoon it will need a good wash down again. So I have learned to use only very sturdy, easy to clean things on the porch! I just washed it before taking these pictures.
The farm field over the railing was planted with rye early this spring and now it’s ready to be harvested. It’s such a gorgeous golden color and is a stunning contrast with all the green!
What’s a porch without pots of flowers? I have two of these green pots on my porch. One here and one by the laundry room door. I’ll share that end of the porch sometime soon.
My table and chairs on the porch and patio are really nothing special at all! We got them a Lowe’s on sale. Because of the wind and elements my furniture is exposed to I decided to buy all mesh type outdoor furniture. I’ve never had a piece blow away and they’re not so heavy that they can’t be moved around. And we move them around a lot!
I added a fun indoor/outdoor rug, that I found on Amazon, to this area and put comfy black and white cushions on the chairs. And, oh yes, some green indoor outdoor accent pillows.
The curtains on the back porch are from our local Pottery Barn outlet. They have worn so well. We have had them for years and they have gone through so many summer thunderstorms! Thunderstorms can be very severe in our area, sometimes leading to tornados! Decades ago we actually saw a tornado, but it did not come near our home. These porch curtains have been blowing straight out from the porch during a thunderstorm more than once when they got loose from their tiebacks. What a sight!
I like bringing indoor elements to outdoor living. Right now I’m working on a very fun chandy for over the table! Look for a post about it around July 4th.
The table’s set for a little healthy snack. I love love love watermelon! Watermelon and “Courtley” enamelware from McKenzie Childs are a perfect match.
Instead of pulling out my favorite white ironstone and creating an all white vignette… I used a tad of ironstone mixed with some fun, stylized flower plates and napkins and a vintage looking vase! A big pop of color comes from the green handled flatware. I’ve been longing to fill my summer spaces with lots of color lately!
This little bee came for a visit too!
Summer and wrap around porches just seem to go together! What outdoor space do you gravitate to in the summer?
So glad you could stop by! Make sure you come again!!!!
