10 MINUTE SUMMER DECORATING
Decorating with summer in mind can be the simplest thing! I say, keep it easy and breezy and sprinkle summer elements into the decor you already have! Today, let’s get out our shells and create three pretty summer pieces that call to mind a white-bleached day at the beach! These decor projects is so easy peasy that you will be able to make several pretty decorations in under 10 minutes!
Using a bag of crushed shells… a container of assorted shells, starfish and sand dollars… and some battery operated candles I turned two hammered silver hurricanes and a cake stand into a summery dinning room centerpiece! This literally took minutes to create! I’ll show you how…
I keep a plastic container of summery things for decorating. Keeping them together makes them easy to find. Here’s the materials I used…
These were so easy to put together!
1. Add a little crushed shells in the bottom of a candleholder or a lantern.
2. Add a battery operated candle.
3. Add shells and starfish.
Done!!!!
I use the same process to put candles and shells on a cake pedestal.
So easy! And it took under 10 minutes to create all three!!! And they look so pretty at night with the candle glow!
I know that you already know how to do this but some times we all need reminded!!! So this is a gentle reminder to get your summery things out and decorate!!!!
Remember to pin this to your Pinterest SUMMER or DECOR or DIY boards. You can follow me on Pinterest and see all the great things I’m finding to pin HERE.
Love it Yvonne! When is your book coming out?? I CANNOT WAIT!!!
Have a blessed day!
Thanks for asking Shyanna! The book will be out next year.
Oh Yvonne.. I just don’t know if I can wait that long for your book!! I guess I will have to won’t I?? Well at least I have your gorgeous blog to read every day. Some of the posts I have read so many times I think I have them memorized!! lol
BTW I finally made your detergent and your tea and both were awesome!!
Thanks!!
So fresh and pretty, Yvonne! I love the mix of white and silver.
This is such a fresh look. Where did you get the shells and silver candleholders? Happy Summer!
The silver candleholder came from Pottery Barn Outlet about 10 years ago. The shells I picked up here and there… I got some at HomeGoods.
Love the look.. So pretty
Be blessed
Pam
I love that light, summer look! You posted a while back about lanterns and battery operated candles which made me go right out and get a candle and lantern for my dining room table…..I can’t tell you how lovely it looks!!!! I have since added a candle like that to my bathroom and plan to do something similar in the family room. The candles give such a soft light and with the timers if I come home late, they’re just flickering away waiting for me. Never have to worry about the flame or remembering to blow them out!!! Can’t wait to start looking around and see what summer theme I can come up with! Thanks for your great ideas and inspiration!
I love to hear that, Linda Ann! Thanks for letting me know!
Sooo pretty! We are experiencing our June gloom here! I could use a little sunny inspiration!
So beautiful and fresh looking.
So excited about your book?
Your updating decor ideas are inspiration to all of us who are able to do the same…..with your reminder and encouragement. Thanks for the nudge to make a visual seasonal change Yvonne! I appreciate your blog.
Where do you store all your tablescape and seasonal decor? Any tricks to make it easy to retrieve?
GOOD QUESTION!!! Most of my seasonal decor and tablescaping items are in the basement on shelves in boxes. Right now it’s a bit of a mess!
Oh my goodness this turned out looking sooo pretty!!
In about 2 weeks, my family and I will be returning to our family vacation home on Balboa Island (California). On the island, there is a quaint little shell shop. Although I have quite a collection of seashells already, I plan to pick up some pretty white, white shells to create a vignette similar to yours. Thanks for the inspiration!
Best,
Michelle from simplysantabarbara.blogspot.com
Beautiful… just beautiful!!! Can you tell me where you found the “crushed” shells? I’m also on the hunt for shells also… unfortunately my Homegoods doesn’t have any. ;(
Another option beside the crushed sea shells is pot barley. I live in Saskatoon, Canada, and a retailer had a beautiful display of jewelry and I asked what w under the jewelry. She told me to go he grocery store and look at dried pasta and rice for inspiration. Needless to say, I have a collection of grains for vase fillers now which is a very economical way to add texture.
Thanks for a great website. Every morning coffee break includes checking out your website and I have found many interesting ideas here. Lots of inspiration so thanks again.
Hi Yvonne,
Love your blog, I just happened to stumble across I one day on Pinterest. Now I’m hooked! I have a question for you, where can I find those flameless candles with the timers? Maybe Homegoods or Michaels?
thanks so much,
Andrea
Hi Andrea!!! Welcome to the StoneGable family! I found my flameless candles at Costco. They came 6 in a pack for under $20.00. Hope this helps!
For Michelle Mortensen…when you are in SoCal go to the Orange County Swap Meet at the fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, open Saturday and Sunday except when the fair runs in July-August. There is a vender there that sell all kind, size and shape of shells. Also fun place to go is the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach.
Very summery
