EASY FALL DECORATING IDEAS AND PLANNING

Ready for some easy fall decorating ideas? I know it’s only August, but while you are enjoying the last few weeks (or days) with the kids before school begins or vacationing or taking long dips in the pool let’s take a few minutes to think about fall! Yes, fall! And plan easy ways to decorate for the season!

And please hear me on this… it’s fun to read about doing things for fall but it is far more fun and will make a big difference in your home if you actually DO these fun things! So put them on your list, dear friend!
By the time fall really rolls around, we want to be ready and enjoy fall!
Here are a few things to think about and do while we are all enjoying the remainder of summer and looking towards fall.
DO A LITTLE FALL DECORATING RESEARCH!

Not the bookworm kind of research but the fun kind! Peruse Pinterest for easy ideas and inspiration. Grab a few fall magazines and pour over them. And see archived fall posts from your favorite bloggers!
It’s time to spot new trends this year! And embrace tried and true ideas!
Give yourself permission to spend time daydreaming! I love this part of planning.
START A FALL PROJECT NOW

Find a great project for your home and make it in August! It will be all ready to go when you are ready to use it!
Every year I make a new wreath for my door. You might want to make a table runner, pillow, or sign. How about painting your faux orange pumpkins white this year? Gather materials now and make them!

See how I made the EARLY FALL APPLE WREATH HERE and the BITTERSWEET FALL WREATH HERE.

PLAN A FALL PARTY

Everyone loves a party. And this is a great time to enjoy friends and family outside! I know many of us are hunkering down and not entertaining right now. But why not treat yourself and your family to something special.
This season is the perfect time to get outside and party!
How about a S’ more Party around the fit pit? Invite your family!
Plan now! Let everyone know early so you will have a good turnout!
This year it’s just Bobby and me! But I’m planning a few fun fall picnics! One will be a tailgate in the back of his truck! Yay!!!
And start planning the menu, tablescape, and other details so you aren’t overwhelmed by the time it rolls around!
Then HAVE FUN!!! You can see how I set up my S’MORE PARTY HERE.
I think the trick to entertaining right now is to make it simple and special!
GO THROUGH THE FALL DECOR YOU HAVE

Go through the fall decor you have now! And your mantra this year should be “EASY FALL DECORATING”!
Purge all the old, worn out and unused fall decor you have! This is so important!
Every season I purge my decorations. They get tired or outdated or both. I’ve really scaled back over the years. I lean more towards beautiful naturals and a LESS-IS-MORE attitude. Much less work and it works with my home.
Make a list of the thing you will need to make or purchase for the upcoming fall season.
And take pictures with your phone so you can refer to them to remember what you have!
I can’t emphasize enough how taking pictures will help you hone your style and the best part is you will know exactly what fall decor you have and where it all is.
One of my yearly splurges is a new pillow. And this year I am all about using them outdoors! Look for an upcoming FALL PILLOW LOVE as part of a FALL EMPORIUM coming soon.

This is one of my fall pillow splurges this year. So cutely sophisticated and on sale too! See it HERE. It is GORGEOUS!!! So well made and so so pretty!

WRITE DOWN YOUR FALL DECORATING PLANS

Do you know when you create goals and write things down you are four times more likely to accomplish them? Pretty good return, right?
I like to keep all my ideas in my home decorating notebook. So I made a 4 printable bundle to use over and over again! If you want extra pages of the checklist or Fall Project Checklist just print off as many as you need!

You can get the fall planning checklist bundle to help you plan your fall decor too!
So, write your easy plans down and with a plan in hand, you will be creating beautiful things this fall! Remember, continue to enjoy summer but plan for fall!

Thanks for getting me moving towards fall.
Where can I purchase the container holding the lime light hydranges?
Liking the use of open containers.
Will the use of galvanized home ware survive then move away from Farmhouse?
Hi Nan, I wish I had a warehouse of that container. I found it at HomeGoods years ago. Sorry I can’t find one to source for you.
What happened to the weekly menu that comes out on Mondays? I get the best ideas from that!
Hi Patti, read the comment to Lyn!
I always love early Fall tips and ideas! We have had brutal heat here in Texas, and I am SO ready for Fall and cooler temperatures (that will be a while for us) but I sure enjoy your ideas and recipes! I am going to do an early Fall vignette on a black rustic oval metal tray on my kitchen table, with green apples, some pretty green faux hydrangeas, white pitchers, black gingham and bright green napkins, all from an idea of yours in the past! Love it.

Love your ideas. Not sure if this possible, but if so., share your pic when you completed your ideas
Oh my! I share so many of the ideas when I am done! Don’t worry about that! LOL
I realized I missed the Monday Menu for the week and this blog seems familiar, recycled? I hope you are okay and doing well, Yvonne.
Hi Lyn, I’m thinking of pushing the pause button on the menus until after Christmas. I have so so many fall/Thanksgiving/Christmas posts I want to share!
I love all of your ideas. I especially love bittersweet but it is so darn expensive in our area.
I agree with your observation about writing down goals. I have been doing this long before it became a self help tool, back in the 70’s when all I could afford was a daydream. Every so often I would set down on paper what I wanted with no care of the cost, it was literally a dream when I started doing this. I didn’t realize it until some years had gone by and I came across my list and found that I had pretty much gotten everything I had wished for.
Since then I became adept at writing down my goals and re-assessing on a regular basis. I told my mother about this one day and she would not believe me as to how powerful this tool really is. But she tried it anyway and got great results. Her comment was “why didn’t you tell me about this sooner?”. She was in her seventies and sadly, she did not live long enough to finish her entire list but she had made quite a dent in it. I would urge everyone to try this, to start with small things, to see that it really works. Of course, I always remind people when combining wishes and goals to be careful what you wish for!
Hi Yvonne..unable to print the recipes in this blog…eg minestrone soup??
Thank you so much for this lovely post! Right now where I live, it’s 110 degrees in the mid-afternoon. Reading about and planning for autumn is just what I need to get my mind off the heat! Lovely post!
So glad to hear that! I adore fall and even if it’s smokin’ hot outside I just crank up the AC and envision pumpkins!
