HOW TO PRAY FOR YOUR HUSBAND- MAN ON HIS KNEES WITH A BIBLE

Happy Father’s Day, dear friends! And happy Father’s day to all the men who have loved a child and nurtured one! Even though today is Father’s Day I want to speak to all the woman who have husbands. This post is for YOU!

I’ve been so blessed to celebrate 39 years of Father’s Day with my wonderful husband, Bobby. We have learn a whole lot about living this life together!

One thing I learned when I first became a Christian was the power of prayer and the authority I have to pray over the life of my husband.

One scripture verse I learned very early on was…

Then the LORD GOD said, “It is not good or man to be alone, I will make him a helper, suitable for him”. Gen 2:18

The word “helper” in Hebrew is really helpmeet and we translate that helpmate. A helpmate is a helpful partner.

I also learned that because we are a helpmate to our husbands, our marvelous God-given roles, we have a whole lot of authority when it comes to him in the heavenly realms!

The word helpmate carries with it the image of a great warrior for a cause! You are your husband’s best prayer warrior!

Here’s a question for you. Are you rushing to the Throne of Grace with concerns and prayers and thanksgiving for your husband and his needs?

I know prayer is a discipline and sometimes it’s the last thing we think about in our busy day! But, we have God’s listening ear when it comes to our husbands!

Oh, we probably do a thousand things a day to be helpful to the guy we promised to love, but are we praying!

Of all the amazing things we can do prayer should be on the top of our list, in our hearts, and spilling out over our lips every day for our man!

My greatest prayer for my husband Bobby is that he is transformed to look more and more like Jesus every day! AND that God will show Himself in B-I-G ways to Bobby!

I was a Christian a long time before Bobby gave his life to Jesus on a missionary trip in a tiny backwater church in Kentucky! But I had been praying a long time for him and kept looking for God to move!

What a transformation! And my husband is still transforming today, as am I.

I learned many years ago about a very simple tool to help me pray for my husband. I create a template of a month like a calendar. I named it PRAYING FOR MY HUSBAND SCHEDULE.

And I started praying over the template and asked God to show me what one thing to pray for him each day. Then I would fill in one block of the calendar.

I was patient and waited to hear from God. I watched and asked God to help me notice how to pray (not criticize) for my husband.

And as God led, I would fill in a box and pray for that one thing specifically on that day.

That way I would have something to pray about each day. And I could keep this request in front of me and God all day long. I used this prayer schedule month after month. Praying for the same things on the schedule. That was not the only thing I prayed for Bobby but the things on the prayer schedule for the day stayed on my mind and in my prayers all day long!

Once in a while, I would redo my PRAYING FOR MY HUSBAND SCHEDULE as needed.

Then I started adding to my prayer schedule what I wanted to praise God for and be thankful as I saw Him move in Bobby’s life!

And then I started writing down scripture to pray over him too. I think praying scripture out loud to God about my husband is my favorite way to pray!

Unless someone shows this post to Bobby, he has no idea I’ve been praying for him this way for decades! And I probably would not have shared it with you, but it has been so life changing for both Bobby and me!

Over the years, I pray the same way for our son Christopher and our son-in-law Jonathan. Both wonderful, godly husbands and fathers.

There are so many books and posts and methods of praying for your husband but there is the bottom line…

You have great authority before God to pray for your husband! So PRAY FOR HIM! And pray God’s will and His word over him.

If you would find it helpful to use the 31-DAY PRAYING FOR MY HUSBAND SCHEDULE just sign up to get it below.

May God bless you and all the wonderful men in your life!

And Happy Father’s Day to our Great Father, the Father of Light!

  5. I was taught God the Father. But my father beat beat me. I loved my husband and prayed for him. But he left me for someone else. He’s married to his 3rd wife now. I see the condition of “God’s Children” around the world. I am no longer a Christian. I do believe in some Universal power but it surely is not a “loving God.”

    1. I am so sorry Robin. It is not God who hurts His own, but our broken world and its ruler Satan. The world we created and the horrible Satan the world follows. God promises to one day take us out of this world and we will live with Him in Glory! Have faith, call on YOUR Father to give you strength and peace, and ask Him to show Himself BIG in your life. Robin God loves you and He will be a comfort to you if you read His word and spend time talking to Him. I am so sorry for the pain and suffering you have gone through. I am praying for you.

What a beautiful post, Yvonne! What a great idea you have in praying for your dear Bobby. Thank you for sharing this today. I always pray for my husband but the way you use your Prayer Schedule is the best I have ever read! I am definitely going to use this Prayer Schedule from now on. You always give us so many wonderful ideas that we can use in our daily life and I thank you, once again, for always sharing with us. Yvonne, I appreciate you so much and thank God for you, too. Your Sunday posts are wonderful — as are all your posts. It is my prayer that God will continue to bless you as you seek to serve Him and share His love with all your readers. Have a wonderful week! You are very special!

  9. After doing a women’s Bible study through the book “The Power of a Praying Wife” by Stormie Omartian many years ago, I too created a daily calendar to pray for specific things for my husband. Some were straight from scripture, others were thoughts from doing other Bible studies or reading Christian books. I keep the calendar with my daily devotion so that I continue to pray daily for him. I smiled just last week as my prayer prompt was thanking God for relieving a (now old) health issue and praying for his continual health. Yes, we have a responsibility and privilege to pray for the man God has brought into our lives. May He change us and them in the process! Thanks for your willingness to share.

  10. Nancy C Loyd says:

Thank you for sharing this… I have been a Christian for many years as is my husband and I know to pray for him but this is just a great way to do it and a ever needed reminder! I am being healed of breast cancer and my thoughts have been more on me than on him but this will fit into my daily prayer time and yes pray out loud…during 20-21 I prayed Psalm 91 out loud every day! I told my mom (97) I was doing this and she said she had prayed this over our family for many years..so glad she shared with me. I have always had praying parents and I have been a praying parent so I know God will move it forward into the next generation!
    Blessings

  11. Please send me 31-DAY PRAYING FOR MY HUSBAND SCHEDULE.

    Thank you,

  12. Thank you for sharing your heart. I do pray for my husband, but not enough. I never thought to write requests on a calendar. The action of writing is a definite reinforcement. If we don’t pray for our husband, who will. I love the Scipture:
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. Romans 8:26 The only other person who knows more about your husband is God! He knows you and me more than any other for He is our Father. I am a child of the King; praise the Lord.

  13. Robin Albanese says:

Hello Yvonne – I’ve been following you for years and first got to know you through your time on Decorating Tips & Tricks! Remember those days?! I actually still listen to Kelly and Anita and always hope they will invite you back just to check in with you! Thank you for this post about prayer for our husbands. My question is, is there a way to print it without all the advertising? I realize that’s how you earn money from the blog but I’d love to share it with some women I am discipling and it’s hard to follow along with all the ad interruptions. Do you offer it as a PDF? Thanks for your help!

    1. I’m sorry, I don’t. Thank you for being such a great StoneGable friend! It’s lovely to know that we go back so far! Here’s to another 11 years!
