I have been blessed in the last eight years with six adorable grandbabies! Anderson, Emma Kate,  Alexander, Amira, Bailey, and our newest baby MacAlister. Since the day these precious little ones were born, I have sung “Jesus Loves Me” to them as many times as I can in a day. I am no singer, believe me, but I don’t think God cares very much about that, and neither do my babies.

When I sing, I use arm motions and facial expressions, and I sing this beloved Bible song at a zippy pace, like the happy song it is, not like a dirge.

I like to sing quietly into the ears of our little babies. When I would sing Jesus Loves Me softly into Bailey’s ear, he would get stone-still and listen with wide eyes. And this would melt my heart!

I often think of the tiny ears of all my grandbabies and pray that they will be guarded against the foul, base, and filthy things of this world. And I pray our family pours into them what is good, wholesome, and perfect.

Words Of Wisdom

The Bible says …

I HAVE HIDDEN YOUR WORD IN MY HEART SO I MAY NOT SIN AGAINST YOU.  Psalm 119:11

Even though all my grandchildren are young, it is important to help them start hiding God’s word in their hearts.

It is important that we, too, make hiding God’s word in our hearts a lifelong habit. When we are tempted or weak, we need to be able to call on scripture to address our situations and be strengthened and blessed by it!

In Ephesians 6, God tells us how to dress ourselves for the day ahead. He tells us to put on the “armor of God.” And part of our armor to fight against the evil that will battle us every day is a sword. It is called the sword of the Spirit. Did you know that it is the only defensive weapon we are given and the only defensive thing we will need?

TAKE UP THE HELMET OF SALVATION AND THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD. Eph 6:17

Our Defensive Weapon

Our defensive sword is actually the word of God!

In the book of Hebrews, the Bible is called a double-edged sword.

I do not want my precious grandbabies to grow up without the proper weapon to fight evil. And they will fight it, I know. God says our fight with evil is daily hand-to-hand combat! So close is evil that we must fight it face to face!

I don’t want to be left defenseless against evil or my grandchildren—and I bet you don’t, either!

So, let’s memorize scripture so we can stand firm against evil when it comes! Sharpen your sword and hide God’s word in your heart!

Good morning. LOVE the hiding your heart piece, and i have shared with a number of people. I sing the same song to my 22 mo grandson, emmett, and he, like yours, gets eerily quiet and stops crying. Power of the Name of Jesus.

My dear friend, suzy, was the Director of an excellent, Christian preschool in santa barbara, where our 4 went, and i was the administrator for a few yrs. She just retired, and is starting to write, “confessions of a pre-schhol Director” on a range of topics. I am helping he4 with it, and i just sent her your post today about surrounding children with beauty as a hedge against the ugliness that can be in the world.
    Thanks!

I don’t minimize the absorption of babies environment. Both my children are adopted and my daughter is half Hispanic. When she was about 2-1/2, I missed her so went looking, of course. And she was cross legged on top of my bed listening to the Spanish station on television. I asked her if she wanted me to change the station and she said she loved that one. There is no doubt in my mind that those sounds were familiar to her. She did this several times. We got her when she was weeks old but somehow she had heard those same sounds. There is so much we don’t know. I’ll always remember that.

Thank you for your weekly teachings for sharing the most important thing in all of our lives! You make a difference in
Mine ! Only when we get to heaven will we all know our impact for the kingdom!
    Bless you! Kelly

  6. I learned yesterday at a reveal party that I’m getting a grandson in July. Thank you for your mini-sermons and for this wonderful resource for the alphabet scripture songs. You are amazing, and I look forward to your Sunday post every week.

    1. Congratulation and God’s blessing to you and your growing little one coming in July!

  7. I am so glad to read this! It is so precious that you sing Jesus Loves Me to your grandchildren. My grandchildren are almost adults now – in college – but their parents and grandparents have given them a base to live their life for.
If you are not a Christian, I don’t know how you can live a life of peace. Not a life without problems – just a life of peace.

  8. Sandi from Wisconsin says:

Very lovely Sunday message, Yvonne! Yes, our grandchildren are so precious, and we want to share with them, God’s good news. And for us, too, so important to keep God’s words in our hearts. Have a wonderful Sunday!

  9. When I held my two grandsons for the first time in the hospital, I sang this song:
“I’m something special, I’m the only one of my kind. God gave me a body and a
bright, healthy mind. He had a special purpose that He wanted me to find. And
He made me something special. I’m the only one of my kind.”
