FALL FOYER DECORATING IDEAS

FOYER DECORATED FOR FALL

No matter the size of the foyer or entryway into your home I have some pretty fall foyer decorating ideas for you! Our foyers are the first things guests and family see when they step inside our front door so let’s make that space welcoming and pretty with a little bit of seasonal decor!

FOYER DECORATED FOR FALL

I’ve gotten so many comments and emails about my fall foyer this year I thought I’d break down how I decorated our foyer and share lots of tips for making your foyer a little taste of the prettiness to expect in the rest of your home.

Our foyer is l-o-n-g! Twenty-two feet long!

Listen, friend! I think most homes have a challenge when it comes to the foyer.

You can see a better image of just how long the foyer is HERE.

Some foyers are too small and some are too narrow and some, like mine, are too long!

If you have an issue with the configuration of your foyer now is the time to take a good look at it and try to image ways to make it work for you!

My solution was to create a welcoming area just inside the door and then to use the end of the foyer as part of our great room space.

THINK ABOUT FUNCTION FIRST

I know we are decorating for fall and that is certainly the fun part, but let’s think of creating a pretty and functional space first.

So, before all the amazing fall foyer decorating ideas we need to be practical!

Here are the basics for decorating a foyer. Not every foyer can include every item. You will have to decide what works best in your home.

Think about adding these things to your foyer…

FOYER DECORATED FOR FALL
  • add a table, buffet, or chest to your foyer
  • a mirror
  • art for the walls
  • think about providing a place to sit down like a chair or bench
  • include some type of hanger for coats, purses, bags, etc.
  • somewhere to put your keys
  • add something to make guests feel welcome

Create a cohesive look by using the same colors and style in the foyer as the rest of your home.

Here are some easy to do decorating suggestions when it comes to adding a bit of fall to your foyer…

  • a little bit of fall decor goes a long way
  • function always trumps fall decor
  • use the same fall elements and colors that you use in the rest of your home
  • natural fall things are best

In our fall home this year white pumpkins were the stars! So I added just one little white pumpkin on a wood round to the foyer bench.

I also used “blond” faux leaves in a wreath hanging on the vertical coat hanger and in the basket on the floor.

USE COZY TEXTILE FOR FALL

One of the best fall foyer decorating ideas is to use pretty fall textiles! Great fall colors, nubby textures and soft materials.

Think about using pillows on a chair or bench. Also, I fall quilts would look amazing folded neatly on top of one another on a chair or bench too!

Use what you have to create a beautiful fall welcome in your foyer.

Now it’s your turn…

  1. Your foyer looks beautiful ! What I notice is that use a mixture of colors (white wood work, black furniture, wood framed photo, etc) and it looks good. I have a family room project that has the old honey oak woodwork color. I am debating if I should paint it or work with it by using paint color and accessories to make it look less dated and more like it fits the room. I heard it is not coming back in style. Any thoughts on what you would do.

    1. What paint do you use for walls and trim?

      1. Hi Kathryn,
The paint in our entire home is Benjamin Moore Simply White. The walls are flat and the trim is semi-gloss.

    2. Hi Barb, I think that white woodwork looks so fresh and you don’t have to consider it when you decorate. Oak is not very popular right now and probably won’t be for a LONG time! You will love white woodwork!

Where is your rug from? I have been looking for a rug like this. The ones I have found are either tiny or way too big.

  3. Your foyer is a nice size and very welcoming.I don’t have a foyer. You open the door and you’re in the great room, very challenging to decorate.I have added a mirror,a small piece of furniture and a coat rack next to the door on the small amount of wall space. This helps but not ideal.

    1. There you go, Doreen! We have to make lemonade with the decorating lemons of life!

      1. I have a similar hallway entry with a long view. But I have a dilemma. Your door has the side glass behind your door. Mine has it on the opposite side of door. So I bought a chair size bench but because of the way the door opens, if I center it under the mirror I added to that wall, the door bangs the chair and can’t be opened all the way. So I have the chair off to the right past the door jam. And to the right of the chair is door molding for a double door to a study. So it just doesn’t quite look right to me. Not sure what to do.

  4. Where did you get the blond leaf stems? The neutral colors are so pretty.

    1. Hi Dorothy, I found them locally! Sorry I don’t have a source for you.

Your foyer is beautiful! Everything works so well together.
I’d like to know where you got the scripture print, I have been admiring it for awhile now.

  6. Please share where you purchased your foyer “blessing”…I love the idea of including this verse in the entranceway! Thank you!

  7. Would you please share the source for your scripture print? Love it!

  8. I love what you did her, as always. Unfortunately for me, we have a short and very narrow hallway/foyer. Currently, because there’s no windows nearby, I kept the walls white. I only have a runner and a floor to wall narrow cost/hat rack.
You always knock your diy/decorative designs out of the ball park with fabulousness.

  9. I love the look of your wall tree. I’d love to copy that look but I’m afraid it would be too cluttered. I’ve also thought about putting it in our guest bedroom so it could be used to hang up their items… I’m so undecided

  10. Where did you get your coat rack!?

  11. Elizabeth Simmons says:

Your home is so beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for all the wonderful ideas. What color is your front door?

    1. Hi Elizabeth, thank you so much! I’m not sure what the color of our front door is. I’m still trying to resource it. When I find out I’ll write a post about it.

      1. Elizabeth Simmons says:

Thank you! I appreciate it 🙂

Where can I get the bench pictured in your recent article?

    1. Hi Rebecca, I found the bench at Ballard Designs. I hope this helps

  13. Good morning, where did you find the blond faux florals? Thank you
