It’s so pretty and easy to make.
I am a flower lover! They are good for my soul and my home! And although I LOVE LOVE LOVE real flowers, they just don’t last that long. So when I want to create an arrangement with flowers that needs to have a little staying power I call on my stash of faux flowers to create something pretty!
This easy summer flower centerpiece is a diy that can be made with both real or faux flowers. And once you learn the “recipe” you can recreate it using all kinds of different containers and flowers and plants and more! And you can make a centerpiece for every season too!
I think this summer flower centerpiece is beautiful enough to use as a wedding or special event centerpiece! And sweet enough for a centerpiece for a luncheon for friends or to sit on your coffee table.
I did not have to buy one thing for this arrangement. Everything I needed I found by digging around in the basement.
I brought up all the stash and made this easy diy on my dining area table!
CREATING A FAUX FLOWER STASH
Do you have a stash of faux flowers? You really should. I’ve been collecting faux flowers and plants and Christmas greens for many years.
My one hard and fast rule is they must look realistic! If they don’t they don’t belong in my house!
I have created categories for what I will and won’t collect. Here’s my flower list of what will collect…
BIG FULL FLOWERS
I love flowers that have a big presence in an arrangement. Here are my go-to faux blooms…
- spider mums
These are my favorites! And make up the biggest part of any faux arrangement I make.
I LOVE flowering branches! And use them en masse in a tall vase or container. And sometimes if the branches are very authentic buy branches with a light smattering of leaves on them like they are just starting to bloom.
Fluff is a word I’ve coined for small flowers or stems or lacy flowers or stems with a tendril or something that can soften the look of an arrangement. The Queen Ann’s Lace and the sprigs with little white flowers on them are what I call fluff. I cut apart a lot of garlands, bouquets, and other things to make fluff.
THE B- TEAM FLOWERS
The B-Team are flowers that I don’t use as much that might not be as realistic (but not too bad) as I would like but flowers and fluff I am willing to cut apart and stash to create easy centerpieces and other quick things!
WHERE TO KEEP A FAUX FLOWER STASH
I keep my faux flower stash in the basement. Big flowers and branches are kept standing upright in white indoor trash cans covered with old cut apart pillow cases to keep the dust off.
Fluff and cut apart flowers I keep un stackable see through plastic boxes according to color. I like to create arrangements that are monochromatic so putting all the floral bits and bobs together according to color helps me to see what I have.

Here are a few tips to help make your centerpiece successful…
- Enjoy the process. This diy is not rocket science so relax and have fun!

- If you don’t have enough flowers try adding other organic items to the centerpiece like moss balls, faux fruit, mini paper lanterns, or painted pinecones.
- The more candles you use the less faux flowers you need.
- Put your candle or candles in a glass hurricane.
- Remember if you are using real candles and are going to light them please don’t leave them unattended.
Now let’s make this easy peasy summery centerpiece!
WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS FLOWER CENTERPIECE DIY
Here are the basics you will need to make this easy centerpiece. Be creative and use what you have!
- a bowl-like container
- something to place inside the container if you need a riser for the candle and florals
- candle or candles
- faux flowers
LET’S MAKE A SUMMER FAUX FLOWER CENTERPIECE
I gathered all the things I needed to make this centerpiece.
I found a gold tone bowl, a basket, B-Team faux flowers and some fluff, and a big 3 wick candles.
START WITH THE BOWL
I blew the dust out of the bowl and put the basket in it. This created a “false bottom” in the bowl that makes the bowl less deep and made a nice platform for my candle and flowers.
Use anything like a book, an upside down bowl, a piece of styrofoam to put in the bottom bowl. Use your imagination!
ADD THE CANDLE OR CANDLES
Put a big candle into the middle of the container. If you are grouping candles group them so they are centered. Easy!
START ADDING FLOWERS
Start arranging flowers around the the bowl and candle. I like to start with one kind of flowers first. I added the hydrangeas to the bow and then added the peonies.
ADD FILLER AND FLUFF
After I added the big blooms I added small flowers and stems with little flowers. I also added extra leave.
Here’s a tip for helping leaves that get crumpled or folded. Iron them! Use a low, dry setting on your iron and put a leaf at a time between a tea towel and press lightly. Test one to make sure they iron okay.
I did that for the large leaves in this arrangement.
Give your new centerpiece a once over making sure there are no big holes in the arrangement!
Now how easy is that? A pretty summer centerpiece using what you have!
