Summer decorating is easy to do when it comes to our bedroom! Here are 6 ways to have a pretty, cool and inviting summer bedroom…

CHOOSE SUMMER COLORS AND TEXTURES

burnt yellow, white and gray bedding on a master bedroom bed

You may have already chosen a beautiful color palette for your bedroom but now it the time to add a few textiles and accessories to enhance the colors in your room and give it a bit of a summer vibe!

Our neutral bedrooms get a big shot of the saturated burnt yellow I love so much! By adding bedding in this bright color it creates a summery feel in our bedroom!

Texture is important too! Think about the juxtaposition of a cotton coverlet or a duvet and nubby accents like the jute cording around the pillows to make a summer bedroom interesting! No matter what the season, mix up textures!

I loosely used the fabric on the bench for the color palette in our bedroom. To emphasize the burnt yellow/gold in the settee fabric I added a burlap pillow to it in that same pop of color.

CHOOSE SUMMERY PILLOWS

BED WITH saturated burnt yellow bedding and lots of pillows that coordinate

One of the best summer bedroom decorating ideas is to add pretty, summery pillows to a bed! I love a bed filled with pillows so I tend to go a bit overboard!

Pillows have the almost magical ability to change the look of a room.

Because our beds are usually the focal point of our bedrooms the pillows on a bed grab our attention and send amazingly detailed messages to our brains!

Pillows say, “look at me, look at me”!

By adding pillows in subtle color, texture, or motifs of summer we immediately add a summer feel to our bedrooms!

BEST SUMMER BEDROOM IDEA FOR A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP

A LARGE MIRRORED ARMOIRE WITH THE REFLECTION OF A BED IN IT

Sleeping in comfort is the most important “job” in our bedrooms!

And the number one thing to think about when we think about summer bedrooms ideas is how to get a comfortable night’s sleep!

The best way to get a good night’s sleep when the temperature soars is to make sure your bedding is cool and comfortable!

Best Summer Bedroom Idea For Keeping Cool

A BED WITH A WHITE COVERLET AND GOLD DUVET COVER AND MATCHING THROW PILLOWS.

Even though we have central air I still love a fan to circulate the cool air around the room.

We have an overhead fan in our master bedroom. I swore for 35 years that I would never have one of those ugly things in my bedroom. But when we moved into the Tanglewood house there was a ceiling fan in our bedroom.

I had all intentions of removing it until I slept with the fan on one night. Wow, did it make a big difference! Now I am a huge fan of ceiling fans!!!

Whether you have a ceiling fan or a floor fan the idea is to have the air circulate around the room. Most of us have air conditioned bedrooms and still our rooms can feel stuffy and stale! A fan solves this issue and adds to our slumbering comfort!

How To Make A Duvet Summer Friendly

A BED WITH A WHITE COVERLET AND GOLD DUVET COVER AND MATCHING THROW PILLOWS.

Put this next tip into the best every summer bedroom idea!

Instead of getting rid of a duvet in the summer, use it as an extra light layer. Did you know you can add a lightweight blanket as an insert to your duvet or use the duvet sans duvet insert!

I put a very light summer weight blanket inside our duvet and it is just perfect for us! No heavy duvet on our bed!

A duvet is such a pretty layer to add to a summer bed, it just has to be practical too!

We love the look of an extra layer on a bed but not the bulk. By taking a heavy insert out of the duvet cover it becomes a very lightweight addition to your summer bed. Brilliant, right?

Summer Sheets

One of the best investment I made in a good nights sleep was linen sheets. What a difference!

Not all linen sheets are alike so do your homework and buy the best quality you can afford! I have two sets of linen sheets I use all year. Even though they were pricy they keep getting better and better after each washing.

And I’ll probably have these gorgeous sheets for decades! Here are my FAVORITE LINEN SHEETS. And this is not a sponsored post!

ADD FLOWERS REAL OR FAUX

What is summer decorating without flowers? Pick them from your yard, garden, and landscaping! Find them along the roadside or buy them! However you get them put flowers in your master bedroom.

I get such an emotional lift when I get up in the morning and see a pretty vase of flowers in our bedroom! I think flowers are good for the soul!

Here in Lancaster County sunflowers fill fields and gardens! They are very popular! Our local farm market, Mecks Produce, has bouquets of fresh-from-the-field sunflowers and they are so reasonably priced!

No wonder you see them in our home all summer and into fall!

Faux Plants = Easy Care

A NIGHT STAND NEXT TO A BED WITH A WHITE LAMP,. A GREEN PLANT AND FAMILY PICTURES ON IT

If you are too busy for real flowers, another summer bedroom idea is to use faux plants in pretty summery pots!

a night stand with a round white lamp on it and a green plant and family pictures.

I keep faux plants on the nightstands on either side of the bed. The are pretty, add that nice organic element and do not need care, except for dusting!

For me, that’s a win/win!

A Great Place For A Tree

A BEDROOM DECORATED FOR SUMMER WITH SUMMER WHITE, GOLD AND GRAY BEDDING AND A BIG BASKET FILLED WITH MORE PILLOWS

Okay, this is “do as I say and not as I do”! If you have the room, bring in a faux or real tree! I love the look of something tall and green in a bedroom for the summer!

This basket shows up in so many rooms here at Tanglewood but I think it has finally found a permanent home (for the summer at least) here in the master bedroom.

As soon as I can find a great tree I’ll replace the pillows with it!

ACCENTS ARE A GREAT SUMMER BEDROOM IDEA

A BED REFLECTED IN A BIG MIRRORED ARMOIRE

Here’s my take on adding summer accents to a bedroom…

KEEP THEM AUTHENTIC to your space. What I mean by that is…

  • Add summer accents sparingly! Your master bedroom is not the place to dump all the seashells and lanterns and other quintessential summer accents unless you live at the beach!
  • Use organics like plants and flowers to create a summery feel in a bedroom
  • Think of adding colors of the sand and sea to a bedroom instead of theme-y accents.
  • Put away heavy accents. Less is best in the summer.

DIFFUSE SUMMER SCENTS

a bedroom with a bed decorated with white, god and gray bedding- an Italian settee and a vanity.

One of my favorite ways to add summer to our bedroom is to diffuse summer aromas! The diffuser hides behind the pictures on my nightstand!

My room smells beautiful and fresh!

I diffuse spearmint and lavender or citrus blend and peppermint in the morning and lavender and chamomile at night. You can see my favorite Young Living Oil essential oils HERE. If you would like to order anything please use my YLO number… #3098375

Our bedrooms are our sanctuary and should be a beautiful, welcoming and attractive place to spend summer nights!

  1. Yvonne, your bedroom is gorgeous! So much detail. I would never have thought of that golden yellow colour for a bedroom, but it is perfect! I will have to do some searching around as I have never seen that shade in duvets before. I am interested in that dust ruffle? What is that made of and where did you get something like that? I love that! I also like that you simply put tobacco baskets on the wall. Very nice! I never know what to do with the extra cushions on the bed, so I throw them in the bathtub in our en-suite..lol…

I love your bedding. Where did you get the quilt set with pillows to match? Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us! It inspires me to enjoy my home too!

  2. Yvonne, I love it. I was so excited to see this today. Your blog is the funnest to follow. I think it is your personality that makes it all so fun. You are cheery and friendly all the time. Thank you.I love the bedroom, I love the mustard colored bedding. Can I guess Pottery Barn? And I love the curtains because they have so much texture. I am afraid to ask but usually you give the resources but I don’t see that today. And the diffuser hidden is a great idea!!!
Thank you for all the years, for all the fun and for making my house nicer!!!
    Fondly,
    Rose

    1. Hi Rose, you are right about the duvet! You can find all the sources I know of at the end of the post. Thanks for your sweet compliment!

  3. Beautiful room. Where did you find the rug

  4. I am building a master bedroom addition and will be putting my vintage desk there. I actually thought of using a padded short stool like yours. Is it comfortable to use?

    1. Yes the stool is very comfortable. The desk is really a vanity and the top flips back and has a mirror inside!

  5. Beautiful. You are the reason I have had a crush on dishes/table settings for years as I followed you on pinterest. Now I’m gradually collecting pillows due to your inspiration and beautiful details for adding color/texture to a room. Thank you for sharing Yvonne!

  6. What a gorgeous bedroom you’ve created! Love using burnt yellow for Summer or just about any other season, so cheery.

  7. Your room is beautiful. Tanglewood home is gorgeous. I love the night stands. Can you share a source?

  8. Lynn Phelps says:

Your bedroom is great. Love your blog, your devotions and your common sense approach to life and design. Where did you get the prints over the nightstands?

    1. Hi Lynn, I found them at a local shop. Sorry I have no source for them.

  9. Cathy Dunfee says:

Hi Yvonne, I love everything about your bedroom. Would you mind letting us know where you purchased all your bedding including pillows, I would love to incorporate those ideas in my guest bedroom. Thanks for all your hard work, your home is lovely.

    1. You can see the sources for my bedroom at the end of the post. Some of the bed pillows are not sourced but I found them at Tonic Living. Hope this helps, Cathy!

  10. I do the same with duvet covers. Folded at the bottom of the bed with matching shams, adds another layer and is so pretty. I even do this with my winter bedding, as we prefer our duvet without the cover.
My summer bedding is a cream matelasse with three matching euro pillows. I have a light brown throw at the bottom and two big, down filled pillows with a large scale flower on them. My sweet daughter in law bought them for me and I love them!
I’m loving your sunflower theme this year. I might just need to add to have that set. ?

  11. Lovely bedroom, but I CAN’T be the only one who wants to see the ceiling fan you talked about in your room :-). I have always felt, as you said, that ceiling fans were pretty ugly but I would love to see the type that you have. We are staying at friends house right now and there’s a ceiling fan, not very attractive but you are right about the breeze!

    1. We have not replace the ugly ceiling fan yet. I’m still looking around! I want to find one without a light because I do not like ceiling lights either. They are so harsh, especially in the bedroom. Tomorrow’s post has a picture of the fan in our great room and I really like the way that one looks. And it again, circulates the air!

  12. Loved seeing your bedroom! The mustard colored textiles and sunflowers are amazing! And, love those pretty side tables!!! Such a lovely retreat you’ve created!

  13. It’s so refreshing to see that you reused your bedroom furniture at Tanglewood. It’s all so pretty. Once you live with a ceiling fan you won’t want to be without. Still not sure why designers dislike them!

    1. I’d rather have a pretty chanelier but I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it circulates the air in our room. I do want to replace it with a prettier one though. It’s rather ugly!

  14. I always hang on every word when you do a tutorial. You bedroom is stunning and done in my favorite colors so my eyes really perked up. I love it all. Thanks so much for joining the tour.

    1. Marty! I can’t thank you enough for including me! I love your tours and learn so much! Inspiration galore, my friend!

  15. Yvonne, the carpet in your bedroom is bee-you-tee-full!!! Where can I purchase it?

  16. This post came at just the right time. I needed some new inspiration for our guest room. We have company coming! Pinned

  17. Elizabeth Ward says:

Oh my! What a fabulous post! I love your blog and you are such a constant source of inspiration. My bedroom is painted white with white draperies, just so I can change things around for the seasons. Your mustard duvet and euro shams are perfection for summer, and even fall. I am ordering today!
I live in North Carolina, so I now need to order those tobacco baskets!
    Your style is impeccable!

    1. You will love the duvet! It was backordered over 2 months when I ordered it but it was worth the wait!

  18. Love your bedroom!
I noticed your little picture when you responded to someone’s post and you look fabulous!! I do wish you would give us an update on your weight loss journey with Weight Watchers. I need some inspiration. You must feel so good.

    1. Hi Jan, I’m just watching what I eat! No WW but I do like their program.

  19. Miche Ortega says:

Just BEAUTIFUL, Yvonne! I especially LOVE that bed skirt. Thank you always for your inspiration.

  20. Yvonne your tips are always so useful and fabulous! I LOVE those pillows and the beautiful colors too! Your home is inspiring!!

  21. So many great tips! I especially like the oils suggestion, I will start doing just that. Very helpful and your room looks beautiful. I hope you have a lovely summer! XO, Amy

  22. Where can I find the framed prints on either side of the bed on the wall? Beautiful job !

  23. Very nice! To my eye gold/mustard/yellows seem more early Fall than summer but I do like your room. The ‘warm’ colors seem too warm for summer but each area is different. And I agree it is nice to see you using some of your furniture from StoneGable and not replacing everything….most of us can not do that. But again, no one has the same budget especially now with so many people hurting financially. Nicely done.

  24. Love the neutral color of your bedroom especially the addition of the burnt yellow, perfect punch of color while still being subtle. The floral prints are also very pretty.

  25. Christine says:

This room is beautiful! It looks like it has been done over years of collecting your favorite things–not an easy thing to do.

  26. Yvonne your room is so dreamy. I love the goldenrod color you’ve used. It reminds me a bit of sunflowers. You always decorate so beautifully, so I knew I’d love your Summer bedroom.

Hope you are enjoying the new baby (now or soon)!
    Big hugs, Shannon

  27. Your bedroom at Tanglewood is just as lovely as SG! Love the deep gold colors, and your sidetables are so pretty! Pinned… and what a wonderful hop!

  28. I am a bit behind in my hop visiting but what a gorgeous room! Thank you so very much for sharing. I adore the woven bedskirt. Truly lovely!

  29. Beautiful bedroom! Wondering where you found the botanical prints on either side of your bed?
    Love your blog!

    1. Hi Judy, this is a popular question. I found them locally and have not found an online source yet. Sorry.

  30. Cyndi Scharadin says:

Hello Yvonne, I really appreciate the gift you have to decorate with such elegance. Thank you for sharing! I did not realize you live in Lancaster County which is about 1 mile away from me. It’s a beautiful area of our country!

    1. Hi Cindi! Lancaster county is a gem and I feel so lucky and blessed to live here! Thanks for your lovely comment. It was so kind of you!

  31. Angie Moreland says:

I love the sage green framed prints behind the nightstands. Where could I find them to buy?

    1. The frames are very popular. I found them locally. Sorry I do not have a link.
