My style is transitional – a cross between traditional and contemporary, with a teeny, tiny bit of modern farmhouse thrown in. But I’ve always said my ideal style is old school Southern Living magazine!

I always get great information from your website.
I have no idea what my decorating style is. I do know when I walk in someone’s house and I like it I want to “copy” their style. But even then I don’t know what that is. And not sure how to get to that point and I’m almost 60 do I even try?

Love your post Yvonne as one Lancaster gal to another. I was in my 50’s when I discovered my decorating style, French farmhouse. I was able to explode with creativity in achieving it along the way. I prefer to slowly build a look , picking things up as I go…. especially thrifted makeovers!

My style has evolved over the years and I find I like a cleaner, lighter look these days. We have great windows in our house for letting natural light in, and living in Colorado we have sunny skies most of the year. I no longer want “clutter” and love to display items we have brought home from trips, or that have special meaning to us

My style draws from every style. I guess that would mean eclectic. ?Years ago I did try to do just one style…but I quickly became bored with that. It just didn’t reflect my personality.
You are right! One style is BORING!!! We should always mix two or three styles together!
I’m always “shopping in my closet” but never really gave much thought to applying that same principle to decorating my home. Thanks so much for the idea, and all of the other ideas that you share. I’m excited at the possibility of transforming a dark, drab living space into a home that I love!

I have tried over and over again to pin the tail on my precise decorating style. Not having succeeded in that, I take it that I must have an eclectic style. I am very drawn to neutrals and naturals but cannot seem to achieve that in my own home, opting instead for lots of color and sometimes too much clutter. I have noticed that my taste has changed over the years and many of the styles I used to think were so beautiful now bore me or over-excite me and I find myself decluttering and trying to replace with cleaner lines and simpler decor. Thank you for your beautiful website–it always points me in a good direction.

StoneGable was the very first blog that I ever subscribed to and I have used it as a reference for so ideas to decorate my home in an Eclectic, Transitional French Country style…yes, many variables but I find that after looking at your blog, I go “shopping in my home” to find special pieces to rearrange in vingettes that fresh an entire room. Thanks for your many ideas in displaying family antiques with new fresh pieces that represent the collage of my life travels! Love your devotional thoughts, too! Such a comfort!

I have severe Lyme disease & Fibromyalgia and have had to move our master bedroom on the second floor down to our in-law on the first floor which has not been painted since we moved in 10 years ago. My husband is coming to the end of a long, hard fight with cancer. I had one last candle I pulled down and lit in our bedroom. A few minutes later he opened his eyes a bit and whispered, “It smells like home in here.” Candles, a vase of fresh flowers, a soft throw…Thank you for helping me remember simple things mean so very much.
