Wreaths are like jewelry for your front door! They begin the “welcome to our home” and are our home’s first impression! They fill our front door with life and interest and tell the outside world a little something about the people who live inside! I’m so thrilled to be partnering with Melissa from DAISY MAE BELLE for a gorgeous WREATH GIVEAWAY! One lucky StoneGable reader will win a beautiful wreath of their choice from Melissa’s Etsy Shop. Look for the giveaway at the bottom of this post. But first let’s talk about keeping our wreaths FRONT DOOR PERFECT with just a little care!
A big thanks to Melissa from Daisy Mae Belle for sending me this amazing “transitional” wreath! I can use this any time of the year! So wonderful to know that I have a charming go-to wreath for my front door!
Here are 5 easy to do tips that will keep your wreath FRONT DOOR WORTHY!
START WITH A CLEAN, WELL MAINTAINED DOOR
Before you hang a wreath on the door make sure your door is in tip-top shape!!! Touch up all chipped paint or worn stain. Wash down the door and get rid of all the pollen and dirt that settles in door panels and on knobs and locks! This will make a wonderful backdrop for a wreath.
Now’s the time to give your door that new coat of that paint you have had your eye on! Changing your door color can really brighten up the front of your home. Be daring!
I love love love the double burlap bow on my wreath!
2. SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE
Before you put a wreath on your front door give it a very good shake! Your front door wreath will take a beating on a windy day and if all the elements on your wreath are not secured you will be picking them up all over the neighborhood! Shake your wreath and keep your eye out for anything loose. Adhere everything tightly back on to your wreath with lots of hot glue! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!!!
Melissa used a beautiful trio of pods to decorate this wreath, making it perfect for almost any time of year… and EVERYTHING STAYS ON THE WREATH! I also love that Melissa’s wreaths ( I have 2) don’t have those nasty hot glue spiders!
3. FLUFF, FLUFF, FLUFF
Don’t forget to spend a little time “fluffing” your wreath. A wreath should look three dimensional… not flat! Tweak the greenery and flowers this way and that. Make your wreath look FULL! Straighten out and form the bow to look plump and pretty! Don’t let a wreath hang on your front door all season without an occasional fluff!
Oh my goodness, fluffing a wreath and bow can make even an inexpensive wreath look like a million bucks!
Melissa’s wreaths are full and creative and are such a great price point!
4. DUST, DUST DUST
Just like our outdoor furniture, porch rails and anything else we have outdoors, wreaths can get pretty dirty!!! Use a blow dryer on a low setting to “dust” them now and then. What a difference a little dust-off will make! If your wreath can hold up to water you an turn the hose on “shower” and give it a bath and then a shake.
5. STORE YOUR WREATH PROPERLY
When it’s time to put away a wreath take a little extra care to do it right and your will have a wreath to live another season on your front door!
Fluff and dust and use white tissue paper to put in the loops of bows to help them maintain their shape. Store your wreaths in a dark, dry area away from pests like mice. They love pods and natural elements on a wreath!
A great way to store them is in a wreath box. You can find them if you google them (and Melissa’s wreaths come in an awesome wreath box). OR I like to hang my wreaths on the rafters in my basement covered with a big heavy duty garbage bag. Seal the bottom. One precaution… make sure a wreath is COMPLETELY DRY before putting it in anything plastic.
Make sure to label your wreath so you can easily find it!
This wreath has beautiful greens that will hold up well in inclement weather! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
These tips won’t add a burden on your day, take just a few seconds to execute and the pay off is BIG!!! Your wreath will be company ready on your front door and last a long, long time!
