Do you know the feeling when you finally… and I mean FINALLY… create the perfect vignette or furniture arrangement for your home? After hundreds of tries and adding to and editing from your creation. Then, the seas calm and all is well and you feel like you won the lottery and God Bless America is playing in the background and you are having a great hair day all at the same time! I think my family room mantel is the hardest thing in my home to decorate! But I finally think I’ve got it just right… at least for this week. Here’s my summer mantel all perfect and ready to show off!
The mantel can be seen from my kitchen and breakfast nook. It also can be seen when you walk from the garage into our mudroom! So I think that finding the perfect “look” for my mantel is important.
I’m one of those home decorators that really like to change the mantel seasonally. Sometimes I get it right but sometimes I really miss the mark!!!! This mantel is one of my favorites! It works with my room and it has some fun elements that should take center stage in my room!
The mantel has not changed much since spring. I found a balance between chippy, burlap, farmhouse and upscale! One addition that I added were these pretty burlap blooms!
I love burlap. It’s a classic! I like the way burlap can bring a little rustic beauty to an upscale look!
Here’s a close up of these pretty burlap blooms!
I think I’ve found a mantel that I can finally say… “I love it!” At least, for now!
Right now I’m thinking about leaving this mantel pretty much the same with maybe an addition of a pumpkin or two… and maybe a garland!

Beautiful winter mantel.
I love the burlap flowers!
I’m looking for your favorite chair. Sometime ago you had an article on your favorite chair but not finding it. Or maybe you have a new fav?!!
Thanks!
I just found your blog and trying to catch up. Where did you get the clock over the mantle? I just bought a small ranch house with a similar fireplace with Windows on wach side.
Thanks.
I think this really works! And would be perfect with pumpkins and maybe a metal spider!
Very pretty! I love those burlap flowers.
I just found your blog/site – I love your style and writing.
Looking forward to more summer reading, hints, tips and fun.
Thank you for sharing.
Hi Carol! Welcome to the StoneGable family!!!! So happy you are with us!
I love your entire site! I am obsessed! Had a recent boating incident that has me laid up for awhile, so I have a great excuse to look over every nook and cranny of your creativity and get inspired for when I’m back up and moving. Can’t wait to start implementing some of your ideas.
Feel better soon Melinda!
I love the burlap flowers on the little stool!
Very pretty! Love the burlap flowers 🙂
It’s hard to believe that’s the same clock – I love how it turned out!! Those black shutters are lovely flanking it and the lamps in front of the shutters look really nice.
I find such gratification in shopping my house. I feel a strong need to move things around a lot in my home, including the furniture. My husband bought me 2 sets of furniture moving discs from Home Depot and I love how easy it now is to try new ideas that I either see on the internet or come up with on my own.
love your summer mantle and your family room, bright and airy
Very nice! I love the combinations you have come up with!
I know this is not about you fireplace but I love the horse.
Love the burlap flowers!
Love your burlap flowers!
Your home has an inviting beauty to it that reflects peace and warmth. A happy family lives there. Thanks for the treasure trove of decorating ideas. I know it is a lot of work to offer this blog, but you inspire a lot of readers.
I love what you have done..you have an amazing gift to make everything look amazing..boy I wish I could have just an ounce of your creativity..love it all the time
I love it too…and had to laugh at your statement …. “at least for now”!!!….
I recently moved into a rental with all white walls, that I’m not allowed to paint, thank you for all the white wall insprirations!
I love your mantel – such great inspiration!
I really like the mantel decor and I truly thought the flowers were dried hydrangeas. Everything about your home is pure perfection.
I love the mantle. I just purchased some small shutters, and did not have a plan for them. Thanks to you, now I do. The $100. Will come in so handy, on 7/31, which is my Birthday. Thanks again for the idea and style tips!
Happy happy birthday!!!! I’m a July baby too!
Beautiful as always! I just want to come wander through each room and meditate on the loveliness!
We had built ins on our fireplace wall in our last house. I miss them! I tend to keep everything very simple on our current fireplace (my mother-in-law’s Roseville pottery set), and change it up for Christmas, Easter, Halloween and Thanksgiving. I want to be more adventurous and you give great ideas. Thanks.
I always enjoy reading your blog and admiring your beautiful home, once again flawless.
Always love seeing how you decorate your beautiful home. I would be your new best friend in person just to learn from you & to be able to enjoy your creative process & learn from you!!! In person is always better!!!??
Pat! Okay!!! Let’s be besties!
You mantel is spectacular. Every piece you used and put together is creative. I love the use of the shutters. Where can I find shutters like you have used?
Your talent so inspires me. You are one of my all time favorite bloggers/decorator. You make me want to do so much more with my home all the time. Many thanks for doing it so willingly and with a smile.
Thank you for sharing your home with us.You make it look so welcoming.I really enjoy reading your blog everyday.
Your mantel is always so interesting! I have a small electric fireplace…so I scale my decor down. Love your ideas and the way you arrange things.
Your mantle looks perfect Yvonne! Maybe we all try a little too hard to get it right. I know mine never is!
We will be moving into our new home soon and I am saving this post for inspiration! Thank you!
CONGRATULATIONS, Meg!!!!! May you be so blessed in your new home!
Love the way you decorate not just your mantel but your entire home. Great inspiration. Thanks for sharing.
Hugs!
Love the mantle. I enjoy reading your posts & getting so many ideas from your pictures! Keep it up!
Love, love, love the Summer mantel! The burlap flowers are darling and I like the shutters, too. I think I have seen burlap flowers at Hobby Lobby. Is that where you got them? I sure have my fingers and toes crossed for the $100 Visa card. See you on the next blog. Pam
Love your burlap flowers….must ask where you found them ❤️ FABULOUS!! Just the right little finishing touch!!!
Mantels are such fun to change with the seasons. Just love how yours is reflective of the color and elements in the family room. You achieve beautiful results with neutrals by adding texture. I continue to learn a great deal from all that you share. Thank you.
Hi Yvonne! The first thing I noticed were the burlap flowers! Looks like most of the other bloggers did too!! Thanks for the chance at the visa card!!!
Love the black and white!!
I also get a rush when I look at something I have decorated and finally feel like I got it “right”! I have gone so far as to take a picture of holiday decor and packed it up with the decorations so I don’t have to start from scratch the next year! Love the burlap, the perfect balance!
Lauren, taking pictures is a great idea!!! YOu go girl!
Looks great… I agree, a few pumpkins and fall touches will be perfect for the next season.
Your mantel is always so pretty Yvonne. Like the use of burlap on the books and the cute blooms. Linda
Beautiful!
I have an older home that we built 28 years ago, and one of my regrets is that I didn’t add electrical outlets to our two fireplace mantels. I love the placement of your lamps and I’m wondering if they function or if they are just for looks? Either way I think they are wonderful! Thank you so much for all the inspiration you provide.
Hi Julie, When we built our home 20 years ago we added outlets to our mantel. I bet an electrician could install them for you.
Thanks for all of the wonderful ideas on your blog, I really enjoy it! You have a beautiful home and I really like your style.
Your blog and style is always an inspiration. Your mantle is beautiful, as is the rest of your home. Thank you for sharing.
Cynthia
Simply beautiful! Thanks for sharing where to find the burlap blooms.
Love, love the summer mantel…..I especially like the shutters very nice and very different …..I am going to look for a pair!!
burlap flowers are a hit. I love them.
I love your mantle, so classy just like you!
This is one of my favorites that you have done. Love the burlap flowers.
I don’t have a mantle. But I love decorating the top of my buffet for the holidays. Rest of year is a mix of everything. Guess it is time to get busy decorating.
Beautiful! Always enjoy your daily post.
Lots more comments with the drawing, I notice, another Nan responding.
Please continue to do what you do so well, inspiring us to make a house a home.
GOD bless.
PS How is the son?
I found your blog several months ago and have devoured every archived post! Look forward to opening my email each day to see what new inspirations you have for us. My white dish collection has grown because of you and I actually use them in displays now. And somehow I feel it’s okay to buy that one more set of colored salad plates or bowls because Yvonne makes such beautiful table scapes and I know I can too! I do love your mantel – I drool over beautiful fireplaces. My husband and I redid the fireplace in the home we lived for 35 years and I loved decorating it. When it was perfect the whole house somehow seemed better-but alas-moved about a year ago and I no longer have a fireplace 🙁 I believe I am going to have to come up with a way to add one! Please keep doing what you are doing and I will continue to drool and be inspired! And may God continue to Bless You!
Thanks so much for the encouragement, Shannon. Have you thought about adding a mantel to a wall with sides and putting a screen or a big plant in front of it? One of my bet girlfriends did this and it looks so fabulous! Just a suggestion!
I envy you all of the decor items that you have on hand to put together your vignettes!
You really inspire me to get busy and change things up as far as my decor goes. Love your decorating style!!!
I LOVE your mantel, I love your house and your decorating style. Thanks for all the inspirations.
Is that a corbel on the right ?
Your home is often my inspiration.
Thanks for sharing the details.
Karen
Yes, I found this chippy corbel in an antique store for very little $$. I actually have two.
Your mantle looks “just right”, as Goldilocks would say! We have a new Hooby Lobby that just opened 2 days ago, so I appreciated the reader’s comment about finding the burlap flowers there. Keep on inspiring us, Yvonne! Thank you!
You put together things that I would not have thought about putting together and it looks great.
Love your decorating ideas, recipes, and tips.
Thanks for the inspiration.
Your mantel looks beautiful. It can be hard to decorate. Mine can’t be hit or miss, too. But when it’s a hit, the whole room looks great!
Your mantel is one of my favorites! You always make everything look absolutely beautiful!
Your mantel looks perfect for this time of year! Love the burlap flowers, I saw some at a boutique store near me and thought I’d use them this fall. Now I might just bring them out earlier! My favorite mantel this year was one I did for St. Patrick’s Day. I just pulled all my green things out and went to town. So fun. Only thing I bought was a new fake garland of baby tears greenery. (With a coupon of course) I too love to change it up for the seasons. Right now I have a sailing picture at the center with a few candles, books for height and a plate/vase to balance out each side. I found a resin water bird in a box I was cleaning in the basement and he just made the mantel!
A true decorator!!!!
I love the way you made subtle changes that made a big statement! I am glad you changed your mantle clock to a light color. Your choice of colors are just what I would pick, and I do have some of your ideas in my home. Just want to say thanks for all the great inspirations!
I love your mantle. I slap thought your flowers were dried hydrangea ,they look awesome. Be blessed
The Hobby Lobby stores in the Oklahoma City area have burlap flowers at this time. Also their a lot of their autumn flowers and accent pieces are out. Makes me think cooler weather will get here some day when I go into the store and view the pumpkins.
Thanks for the tip on finding the burlap flowers at Hobby Lobby, Carol.
Once again your inspirational blog causes me to wish the building of our new house would move along faster. My head is bursting with ideas I want to try. Love the burlap flowers and the wooden stars. Thank you, as always, for keeping the inspirations coming for my ‘dream’ house.
I don’t even care for burlap, but you make it lovely. You have the best taste!
Burlap flowers are the best….I bought a bunch on sale last year “just because” and so glad I did! I’ve spray painted a few (white) and have glued craft store pearls in centers of others. Thanks for your enthusiasm and ideas for using burlap!!!!❣
I love your mantle! I love reading your blog every morning and was wondering if your friend ever opened her etsy shop? I adore all the little dog silhouettes!
Beautiful!
You nailed it perfectly, I am in total agreement. The planet aligned for you on this one. : – )
Be sure to stop by my last post and meet the newest member of our family! ♥♥♥
Hugs and love-
~Michele
Your home is my dream home! I was once accused of being afraid of color by a interior designer. I love a white background with neutrals and pops of color. You do it perfectly! Thanks for all the inspiration.
As always, your mantle is so beautiful. All the right touches. I want to share a quick little story with you. I have four grandsons living with me while they await their first home. The 5 year old was sitting with me as I was perusing my favorite blogs. When I came to yours’ we looked at each room and noticed every detail. He decided when he get older he’s going to buy your house. We had to go back to several pictures and check out every room on your tours. He now calls it “His house.” Even a five year old has style!!
Love your colors.
Yvonne, your mantel looks fabulous. Perfect balance of height, colors and textures and I’m loving the burlap flowers! You inspire my creativity. My creative juices start flowing after reading your blog and it isn’t long before something in my house gets a touch up! Thank you for sharing your sweet world with us.
Love the entire mantel and the burlap blooms add a great accent to your burlap books. I have an off white burlap bloom that I bought at Hobby Lobby in the past. Love your stars too! I always enjoying seeing your mantel creations! (I haven’t been blogging in a while but your site is always a first to look at!) Enjoy your day!
Wonderful post! I’m wondering if you might bottle and sell your energy level. I could use some.
Very fun mantle Yvonne. And I love the house mouse. We had one too in our first house, only it was a real one! :o) Your home and ideas are always an inspiration. God bless.
I agree, just add some pretty pumpkins and a unique garland and your mantle will be beautifully transformed for autumn.
You got it!
I agree, just some pretty pumpkins and a unique garland and your mantle will be beautifully transformed for fall.
Great mantle. I enjoy all your posts and your beautiful home.
Aced it as usual!!!!! I’m finally going to try doing the burlap covered books. The burlap blooms are AMAZING ! Nice touch.
Are there other cute shops in the Lancaster area like “Dwelling” that you could tell us about? I love the Lancaster area!
I love your summer mantle! I have a hard time with mine because it is a 90 degree corner mantle behind a woodstove, but I have used some of your ideas and it seems to be getting better each season. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love the burlap! I actually found burlap poinsettias last winter. I wish I had taken photos, but they were used in so many places around my home. I am pretty sure I found them at Walmart. I love your style and ideas!
Love the look!
I like the variety of textures, shapes, etc. and how it has substance, yet is not cluttered. Love the flowers as well and had to laugh at your comment about getting it right! I have a mouse that *appears* around my home in unexpected places and causes reactions and makes me smile. God bless!
I love the choppy shutters! It is a great mantle. I have trouble changing mine out. I Usually only change mine at Christmas.
I love the way you mix the black and white with the burlap accents. I love your style!
Those large stars at the bottom look sweet! The staging is very pretty and full of interest! I always have trouble with making arrangements in my decorating, so to see examples is very helpful to me! Thanks!
Hi Yvonne,
Thanks so much for a chance at the giveaway! Very exciting! I am a faithful reader but have never commented although I’ve written a few in my head 😉 I agree with you, this mantle is just perfect. The mix of natural colors and textures really speaks to my farmhouse loving heart! And you have your touch of black for class. You are a gifted decorator but even more so you speak to my heart. I love your boldness and heart for God, it shines through in all you do! He is using you mightily!
I’m so glad you commented!
I so enjoy reading your posts. Many things about your style and taste are similar to mine.
So lovely Yvonne. As always. You offer so much to inspire us.
I’ve been thinking about painting the brick in our family room for a while (we have one brick wall and the fireplace) because I love the look of it and our FR is a little dark too. Every time I see your FR it just confirms the idea. Now if I can just convince Hubby! Thanks for the wonderful inspiration on each and every post!
So pretty. I love the burlap flowers.
New to your blog and am inspired and in love with the (seemingly) effortless way you create a lovely home. Anything in front of choppy shutters is a win in my book!
Hi Lucia, Welcome to the StoneGable family!!!! So happy you found us!
Beautiful…..this is giving me inspiration to do something with my family room and mantel!
Absolutely love your style! Whenever I don’t know what direction to go, I just re-visit your posts + gain perspective & inspiration — thanks + keep ’em comin’ ……
Yvonne, I love your mantle. It turned out so beautiful. I love the different textures, heights, and balance of the accessories. It looks perfect! I also adore those burlap flowers!!!
You are giving me the courage to whitewash our red brick fireplace…..just gotta convince my hubby! Beautiful Yvonne!
Great mantle . . . full of rustic charm.
classy, Lassie! very classy! I am not as in love with burlap as some– reminds me too much of those itchy old feed sacks from the growing up days (no, I did not wear them, but fed the animals out of them) but what I love is that architectural piece on the right side. I can’t actually see what it is, but I love old architectural pieces. Just bought one from Kooney’s (Littlestown ,PA) from on old dresser and hung it above a door in our kitchen . Love the perfection of your colors- and the clock, too.
That clock is such a great foundation for the rest of the vignette, so classic. And the burlap covered books are perfect little punctuation marks for the other larger pieces. Thanks,Yvonne, for the inspiration! blessings on your day!
The variety of textures and balance of color are what makes the vignette so appealing.
Thanks, Cheryll!
I could be cozy in that room. So inviting!
As always your mantle is beautiful. I’ve seen those burlap flowers an wondered how to use them. Now I know and it’s so simple. My favorite part of your decorating style is the simplicity of it all. Love it that you move décor pieces from room to room too! Your touch is so pretty and yours is my favorite blog to follow. Looking forward to seeing your master – eventually 🙂
Love your blog and your summer mantel is beautiful!
I love the color and texture contrasts of your mantle! Thank you for inspiration and ideas!
Beautiful! I love the idea of not having to clear off the entire mantel between spring and summer but rather changing and adding a few things to make it seasonally perfect. Not quite so overwhelming!
I like that too Karen!
I love your mantle! Adore the small stool. You’ve incorporated all the things I love to use; books, flowers, art. It looks beautiful. I usually do a small vignette on my coffee table and kitchen counter. It takes time to get it just right with the perfect balance of elements and desired effect, I’ve gotten so many decorating ideas from you! Thank you!
Your style is just great. I have been trying to emulate this look in my own home!
Oh my goodness! I am so happy that I am inspiring you! Hugs!
So pretty and classy. I love everything you do.
You never fail to inspire me, love the mantel. Always look forward to your posts, now i have to go shopping for some burlap flowers lol….
I love using the clock as the focal point toward the other items and the corbel turned on its side, it’s a good thing 🙂
Yvonne, I love your family room and especially your fireplace. I like the simple clean lines of your decorating style. Thank you for the great inspiration to create and make our homes looking great! Have a great day!
I love every post you do. The mantle is gorgeous and provides the perfect mix of understated elegance and rustic. I’ve been on the lookout for a concrete or wooden pinecone finial like yours but am having no luck. My hunt continues… Happy summer!
I love your mantel decor. I especially love the burlap flowers. Definitely have to try making some of those. Thank you for the inspiration.
Hey Sherri, if you can figure out how to make these blooms can you send me your directions? I’d love to make them myself. Thanks!
Your mantel is beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
I also love your chippy shutters. I would love to find some, even if I had to paint them myself to give them that look!
Those shutters are fantastic. I agree they are to love in this mantel layout.
Hi Karen and Roxanne! You can find out how to make any shutter smaller to fit your decor here: http://www.stonegableblog.com/how-to-resize-old-chippy-shutters/
Thanks Yvonne!!!
I think you always get it right. Every blue moon I might and when I do I’ll snap a picture of it thinking that I’ll refer back to it next season , but never do ! By then I usually have a new idea….but that’s the fun of it – moving and changing and rearranging .
Is that you’re little house mouse under the stool?
Yes, our little “house mouse” is getting a lot of attention today.
Oh my goodness! I absolutely LOVE the burlap flowers, Yvonne! I also struggle with my mantle for some reason. During Fall and Christmas it’s easy because I have certain decorations that I use (Fall faux leaves and garlands, lots of faux pumpkins – Winter is lots of silver & white with Bethany Lowe Snowmen) but during the rest of the year I tend to struggle. Right now I feel it’s just OK, but you just gave me lots of inspiration. It’s just perfect!
Karen, I think you are in good company, for sure! A mantel IS hard to decorate!
Your mantle turned out great! I, too, love the burlap flowers. It’s a lovely vignette and the little mouse (?) curled up under the stool is the perfect little touch. Thanks for all of the inspiration you give your readers. I look forward to your posts.
Hi Francine, you found our “house mouse”!
Burlap has a wonderful texture and warms up a room. Did you make the flowers? They look great in your white pitcher! Thanks so much for always inspiring us!
I would love to make these flowers, but no! I found them at the most precious shop called Dwelling in Lancaster Pa.
What a lovely mantel, Yvonne! I love every inch of it. It totally screams summer. I especially love the burlap blooms. Did you make them yourself?
Good Morning, the different textures and shapes really adds layers to the mantle. My mantle looks quite bland after seeing yours. If I send you a photo can you guide me to to a “wow” vs a “eh” mantle??
Absolutely!
Love the pop of color that the burlap blooms give and how they blend with the burlap book jackets! The room is lovely!
Thanks for all the time and effort you put into your blog. Your ideas are always spot on. Truly love everything about your home and I wouldn’t change a thing.
How nice of you Betty! Hugs!
I want to curl up with a good book and enjoy .great job on the mantel !!!!
I laughed when I read your description of finally getting it right! I have felt that way myself many times. And
I am envious of your mantle. When we renovated and moved to our loft, we lost the fireplace. Living in Louisiana, I think I miss it more for its decorative potential than for the additional heat!
Beautiful!! Luv that chippy vintage corbel (?) you have . I too am crushing on burlap flowers.
Happy midweek Yvonne.
I like the airiness of the room and how bright it is.
I am so glad that you don’t think that burlap is a dated look and that you still use it. I LOVE burlap! We are in between homes and renting a small townhouse, so I cannot paint etc. The fireplace mantel is stained an older orangeish colored oak stain and does not match my darker antique pieces. So…burlap to the rescue! I made a burlap mantel
“doillie” to help it to tie in with the rest of the decor. Your beautiful summer mantel reminds me of ours with the touches of burlap and wood pieces. Thank you so much for inspiring us everyday; especially your “centering Sundays.” You are such a blessing and I know the Lord smiles every time you make excellent use of the gifts that He has given you 🙂 Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Deb, aren’t you the creative one! Fabulous idea!
Lovely-easy transition for Fall
Love the pop of color that the burlap blooms add and how they blend with the book jackets!
By jove another beautiful creation…From first glance I thought the flowers were dried hydrangeas. ..the burlap ones ever cool!!!
I love this whole room! Very homey and welcoming.
I love those burlap flowers. It gives me inspiration to make some and use them into the fall with my burlap pumpkins.
Beautiful as always! Please share where you got those great burlap blooms.
Hi Kym, see my comment to Ester above. Thanks for asking!
I love the burlap flowers……may I ask where you found them?
Hi Ester, Thanks so much for reminding me. I should have posted this! I got these flowers at the most darling shop in lancaster, Pa called DWELLING! Oh, it’s just jammed packed with tons of fun and interesting home decor. Did you see that I have a link at the bottom of today’s post for a similar burlap bloom?
I think your home is perfection……the ideas you share are always an inspiration……and I just love all the tips and tricks to keeping a home clean and sweet smelling too….a big thank you for sharing…..xx
You have the enviable knack of putting unlikely pieces together to create something that looks amazing. its a gift, for sure.
I love the adorable little stool on the mantel and how your burlap covered books tie in with your new burlap flowers. I give your mantel an “A!” ( of course everything you do is done with an “A” quality and effort!
I just had a fireplace built for my living room and have been looking for mantel decorating ideas. Thank you for giving me inspiration.
Kim! I’m thrilled!!!! Thanks for letting me know!
Lovely. You really did nail it and thanks for sharing.
Love the burlap flowers, also the little black stool. I have two questions please. 1. I know quite awhile back you did a post on how to hang a plate on the wall, without plate hangers and #2. are the stars in front of the fireplace wood? Thanks and just a note, “Look forward to your post each day”. Oh Yea, what is laying under the little black stool?, lol
Hi Joyce, so nice to see you commenting today! The post about hanging plates is here: http://www.stonegableblog.com/the-best-way-to-hang-plates-on-a-wall-without-wires-or-magic/.
I found these fabulous stars from a vendor at Luckett’s Spring Fair a couple years ago. And they are reclaimed wood.
You found our “house mouse”. He was on the mantel of the first home we bought and has been on the mantel of the three homes we have owned since.
Thanks for the reply. Love to keep those special keepsake memories.
Lovely! You’ve given me the courage to paint my bricks white. How did you achieve the whitewashed look?
Hi Mary, Our home was built 20 years ago and the fireplace was a green marble tile then. We had the fireplace resurfaced with these pretty bricks. I’m thinking about whitewashing them even more.
very nice, Your house needs a Julie Swartz painting,
Love this fireplace. It has given me several ideas! Keep.posting!
You have so many fun creative mantel ideas every season and holiday! I love the look of your fireplace with built-ins on each side. We’re renovating our DR (was a FR) and I’m hoping my husband can build these around our fireplace. Thanks for all the inspiration!
The shelves will be an easy build. One thing I would do differently would have been to add windows on either side of the mantel. Our family room is a little dark
Love the burlap blooms. Can you share where you purchased them?
Hi Becky, see the answer I left on Ester’s comment. So glad to see you here!
