BRING ON THE PUMPKINS!
There is not another month of the year more suitable for pumpkins than October! So, decorate with them lavishly!
Decorate a table with them!

Or your front porch!

Use them in your kitchen table and your mantel!

Tuck them around the decor you already have anywhere in your home!

The idea is to use these pretty gourds! They come in so many shapes, sizes, and colors.

Fire pits are so popular right now and how fun to spend an early fall evening making S’mores!
I love the crisp cool fresh air of October! Put on a bulky sweater or a vest, build a fire and enjoy a S’more or two!

Don’t let fall go by without spending some time around the fire!
OCTOBER IS A GREAT MONTH TO MAKE A FALL WREATH

A wreath like the BEAUTIFUL FALL LEAF WREATH above is the perfect embellishment for a fall door and will look great until Thanksgiving!
This is such an easy wreath to make. Even if you are not crafty… YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
And if stored properly, it can last for years! October is a great month to make a wreath!

COZY UP IN A FALL INSPIRED TARTAN OR THROW

As the weather gets cooler I bring out a few well loved fall throws. It just wouldn’t be fall around here without them!
Drape them over a chair or even use them as a tablecloth!

Here’s another cool weather favorite at our home! We love soup!
When a big pot of homemade soup is simmering on my stove or in my slow cooker I feel cozy! And it makes me feel like I am doing something so good for our family!
Doesn’t the ROASTED BUTTERNUT SOUP above look scrumptious?
I usually make a huge pot of fall-inspired soup and freeze some for easy dinners later!

I’m a collector as I walk! Here are my favorite things to look for this time of year…
- acorns
- pinecones
- black walnuts in their husks
- pretty fall leaves
- wild flowers and other flora
- bark
- moss

How sweet is this LEAF CANDLEHOLDER HERE? It took just minutes to make!
Also think about going apple picking or wander through a pumpkin patch. There are lots of fairs and outdoor gatherings that you can enjoy while still being safe!
The world just gets a whole lot prettier in October, so enjoy it!
THINK ABOUT CHRISTMAS

I know! I hear you when you say that it’s too early to think about Christmas.
But we can walk and chew gum at the same time, right? We can enjoy October and plan for Christmas.
Believe me the earlier we plan for the holiday season the easier it will be!
You can start by…
- making a list of holiday menus and recipes
- wrapping gifts as you buy them
- start Christmas projects
- take Christmas pictures for Christmas cards
- make and freeze cookie dough
- make travel plans

Those are just a few ideas! So think about what you can enjoy doing now that will make Christmas easier this year!

Yvonne, I agree that October is the best month and my house always looks it’s best with fall decor. Something about Autumn lighting. Enjoy this time and thankyou for all you do to keep ours spirits up during these strange times.
Isn’t the “golded hour” in the fall just so beautiful!
You are welcome. I know it is such a strange time. I want StoneGable to be a break from the craziness!
I think this year, it is a good idea to think of Christmas early. With Covid, it would not be good to be in crowds. I’ve noticed others filling their carts with what looked like Christmas presents. My daughter has already started buying. She took me by surprise when asked for suggestions. ? Buy now, wrap later when it’s closer to December and you’re in the spirit.
Wonderfully cozy and inspiring post, Yvonne. Thank you.
Thanks, Miche! Don’t you love October?
I always love your fall decorations styles, and plan to follow your decorative style. I love this post. Thank you for sharing your fabulous styles
Hi Ivory! Thanks so much!
Very interested in your candles on the table in the hurricane glass. There appears to be oil on the top of them below the flame. I have never seen those kind. What are they?
Thank you. I love your website and look at it every day! God Bless You!
Hi Ann, I think they are soy candles and as they burn they melt. However when I blow out the candles the soy wax hardens again.
October is the most beautiful month of the year in KY! My favorite! And since I retired this year I finally get to enjoy every beautiful day!
Where are your weekly menu plans? I especially loved those. Have you discontinured them? 🙁
Hi Carol, I have suspended On The Menu until the New Year because there is so much to post during the fall and Christmas.
They are my favs, now I will have something to look forward to in 2021, thank you for your wonderful insights.
