I must admit I am a little hum-buggie about Valentine’s Day. In reality, I think we make way too much of one day set aside for hearts-and-flowers type of love! Is that really love at all? Or is it infatuation or lust or love that makes us feel good? Isn’t real love so much more than that? For some reason Valentine’s Day reminds me of the Bachelor. You know, that train wreck of a show where one Bachelor dates 20 women and goodness-only-knows-what-else to find real love. SERIOUSLY! Valentine’s Day, for me, is about as sincere as that! However, I am crazy about love. REAL, deep, stick-to-you-through-thick-and-thin, self sacrificing love! Now, that’s the real deal and the kind of love I want to count on. Here is what REAL love really looks like…
LOVE IS PATIENT (suffers long, has patience, endures, forbearance, perseverance), LOVE IS KIND (gentle, full of service to others), IT IS NOT JEALOUS (envious, eager to possess, to bubble over because of being hot), IT DOES NOT BRAG (shows off, braggart, need much attention), IT IS NOT ARROGANT (puffed up, proud, inflated),
DOES NOT ACT UNBECOMINGLY (indecent, unseemly, improperly), IT DOES NOT SEEK (desire, demand), IT’S OWN (selfish), IS NOT EASILY PROVOKED (angry, irritated), DOES NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT (the sense of account or reckoning, count up) WRONGS SUFFERED (inner malice)
DOES NOT REJOICE (glad, joyful) IN UNRIGHTEOUSNESS (injustice, hurt), BUT REJOICES IN THE TRUTH (facts, not just the truth but the idea of it too);
BEARS (cover, ward off, bear patiently) ALL THINGS (every kind, one thing at a time) BELIEVES (has faith in) ALL THINGS (things God says and is), ENDURES (stand ground, show endurance, perseveres, bears up against) ALL THINGS.
LOVE NEVER (never ever) FAILS (falls under)… 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8
May your life be filled with God’s unmatched love and may you love others the way God loves you!!!
