I have a confession to make… I’m not a big Valentine’s type of gal. I don’t decorate with much red and no pink at all. Hearts are okay, but I like stars better. Before you think I am the Grinch of Valentine’s day, let me say, that I am a hopeless romantic! Real, straight from the heart love and gifts and projects and spending time with those I love are much more my style and truly win this girl’s heart! I have an easy, no-sew, perfect for Valentine’s Day DIY that is fun to make and can be used all year long! MR & MRS NO- SEW BURLAP PILLOWS are a great way to celebrate Valentine’s day without all the hearts and flowers!
I think these pillows are not only romantic but so cute!!! And so easy to make too!
Here’s how to make a pair for yourself!
MR & MRS NO-SEW BURLAP PILLOWS
1. Create your own MR & MRS lettering using PicMonkey, a free digital editing program. Or make them yourself.
2. Put the letters into a 12 x 20 burlap burlap bag and trace over them with white chalk. I use a chalk pen. These are fabulous!!! Well worth the investment.
*Make sure your openings for Mr. is on one side and the opening for Mrs. is on the other. I did not do this.. so my openings are on the same side. I think it would look better if the openings faced the outside of each side of the bed.
You can get a 6 pack of burlap bags here…
and the white chalk pens I use here…I love these and use them for so many thing!
Using craft paint with a piece of paper in the burlap bag, paint in the MR and MRS outlines with white craft paint. I used 2 coats. If you have a chalk paint pen you can also color in the outlines with the chalk paint. It gives a softer look.
3. To make the closures, cut 4 colored ribbons, burlap strips, twine or whatever you choose about 18 inches long.
Make 2 cuts in one side the burlap fabric just below the salvaged edge. Each cut should be evenly spaced along the open edge. Make 2 identical cuts on the other open side of the burlap.
Fill the pillow with a down pillow insert. Slip the ribbon through each cut and tie together in the front of the pillow. Make a bow or knot and clip the edges of the ribbon to finish.
You can get a 4 pack of 12 x 18 down pillow inserts here…
Or 1 Piloflex 12 x 18 inch pillow form here…
These pillows can be very expensive! I’ve seen them for up to $67.00 a piece! Making your own is a fraction of the price and you can personalize them!
Just think of all the words or images you can use to make this no-sew burlap pillow! And think of all the ribbon you can use that coordinates with your decor!

Thank you for your ideas. They are so cute. I like your simple directions and that I can add my touches.
Yvonne, could you please tell me if you pulled out the drawstring and then made the ribbon closures or what? I can’t tell by looking at your photos. Thank you for bringing such trendy crafts and timeless decor ideas to your readers. I love everything you post. Thanks for all you do. (And, please know, I am praying for your son and his continued healing.)
I love these no-sew burlap bag pillows. I would love to make a set for my wedding reception in October, however, there is no link as to wear to purchase the burlap sacs. Can you help me with this?
I got them on Amazon. Just look for burlap sacks
I just made these for my daughter’s birthday! They are absolutely adorable! I made them using a brown paint pen to outline the letters and espresso craft paint. My daughter has been wanting the Mr. and Mrs. pillows from Ballard Designs, but they are over $100 for the set! So, I found this perfect project and couldn’t wait to get started. I probably spent a little over $45 for the entire project and still have 4 of the burlap bags and all the chalk pens and craft paint to make more pillows for myself! Love, Love, Love! Thanks so much for the inspiration!
I love love love your idea of these pillows. We host a lot (A LOT) of guests, and since some are here without their spouse, I think I will make the pillows to read: “Rest” and “Well”
What a great idea Lois!
Yvonne,
We just returned from a wedding in North Carolina. It was supposed to be on April 25th but because of a rain scare of 100%, it was changed at the last minute to April 24th! Even though it turned out not to rain beyond a morning drizzle on their actual day, the 24th really was the best choice because it was a gorgeous day for an outdoor wedding. Amazingly, all the vendors were available to make the change and the singer (my son) starting getting sick on the 25th and wouldn’t have done such a good job had they waited until the 25th. The wedding took place on a wooden bridge over a babbling brook and all the decorations were burlap mixed with flowers. I had already given the couple a scripture painting for their home but when I got home to check my emails, there you were with your tantillizing ideas. As usual, I dilly dallied on your site and came across these adorable NO SEW pillows. I’ve got to try to make these and give it to the new bride and groom for their home. I may even make a set for my own bed because they are soooo romantic. You certainly have the gift of teaching. Your methods are so clear and concise, even the most uncreative person (me) is given hope by your step by step instructions. I can’t wait to receive my order of burlap and the chalk pen to get started. Thank you so much for being such a blessing to us and may God continue to give you fountains of ideas in the future to make our homes the best they can be.
With Love,
cindy
These are super cute! Could you please tell me if the the chalk markers need to be “heat set” like other types of fabric mediums to not wash out if laundered or get wet?
Thank you!
I don’t heat set them. They seem to be fine. Hope this helps, Kelly!
you had me at “no sew” 🙂
Thanks for this..I ordered the materials from your links and did them last night! Except i didn’t like the chalk markers much, I got impatient and did one coat with Acrylic white paint. Love them!!

Hi Brooke,
I have a Pottery Barn Outlet about 5 miles from our home, so most comes from there. Hope this helps. You can do almost as well if you look out for PB sales.
I’ve made burlap pillows before but I love your idea much more – so easy and they look great! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get the links to work for purchasing the bags and down pillows, though.
Keep inspiring us, Yvonne!
Yvonne, those are adorable!! I didn’t know you could get bags like that either! So cute and you can do so many different things with them.

Your pillows are darling! If you still want the closures on the opposite side, couldn’t you just do the ‘backside’? just a thought! I absolutely love your blog and always look forward to it. Thank you!
Yes, I thought of that. But for now, I’m okay with it! Thanks for the idea and for looking out for me! So sweet!
I knew I loved your blog…and then I saw these perfect V day gifts. Also, I thought no one else in the world cared about the pillow case openings facing a certain way! Love it! Thx

I am so loving this beautiful no-sew project . . . no-sew is always close to my heart! Easy project, easily accessible materials, a great combination for a wonderful project! Gorgeous pillows Yvonne…great partying with you.
Yvonne, what a clever idea! I love how you find pre-made items and then embellish them. This is certainly a spring-board for so many other things. I also have pinned your tote bag with the flowers — I plan on making that as gifts. Grazie for the wonderful ideas.
Yvonne,
These are just adorable and can be used with other cut outs too . I am thinking black for French look ones. Thanks so much and have a wonderful Monday !
You’ve got the idea Kathy~!
Another great idea, Yvonne. I prefer the more subtle (and easy!) approach to the decor also. You’re always gracious in providing sources too. Have a great week!
