I wish you were sitting on my front porch so you could see how pretty this holey carved pumpkin really looks!!! It glows and illuminates everything around it! It’s easy to make and you do not need a drill to make it! This should be the pumpkin you carve this fall!
I’ve been wanting to make this holey pumpkin for a couple of years. I’ve seen the holes made with a drill bit but I didn’t want to buy a new bit for my hubby’s drill.
So I put on my thinking cap and came up with an alternative method for making the holes that worked just great!
This is what I would call a “designer” carved pumpkin! It can be used all fall and right up through Thanksgiving!
And because it does not have a face carved on it, it has a sophisticated look!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE A HOLEY PUMPKIN
This pumpkin is so easy to carve! Here’s what you will need…
- a fresh pumpkin
- sharp knife
- spoon to scoop out the pumpkin guts
- an apple corer
HERE’S HOW TO CARVE THIS PUMPIN
First I cut the top of the pumpkin off making a lid.
Clean the lid of all seeds and fibrous strands or guts!
Scoop out all the innards of the pumpkin until it was nice and clean! This was the hardest part!
Taking an apple corer, I twist the corer against the skin of the pumpkin making clean looking holes. This was much easier than I thought!
If you have trouble twisting the apple corer through the skin of the pumpkin you can use a mallet or hammer to tap it through. However, I did not have that issue.
If some of the stringy flesh from the inside of the pumpkin brakes away from the shell, pull it off and put it in the trash bowl.
Make random holes and groupings of 3 holes in no specific pattern. Or come up with your own hole pattern!
Put a candle inside the holey pumpkin and it’s ready to sit it where it can be seen and enjoyed!
It’s a smart idea to use a battery operated votive in the candle so you don’t have to worry about fire.
As always, a live flame must always be attended. But, you knew that!
As the evening turned into night the glow from the holey carved pumpkin became brighter and brighter!
This is such an easy way to decorate a pumpkin and not just for Halloween!
