NOW LET’S LAYER THIS CHAIR!
Here’s a very classic spindle with a modern twist! It sits in my living room. Behind it is architectural art I made last month. Next week I’ll be sharing how to do this easy art! And next to the chair is a french door to the porch.
This chair works with almost any style.
Today I’m adding traditional layers, but you can add layers to cottage, modern, farmhouse, chippy, etc! Just follow the ideas in this diy and use your own style! You will be a master “layerer” in no time at all!
Look what happens when I add a lumpy, textural, off-white throw. Don’t you love the nubbiness this throw adds to the smooth white chair?
A little change with a big decor WOW! You could stop right there and your chair would be greatly inproved! But we are going to layer it right into a pretty vignette!
Now lets add color and additional texture with a big big pillow.
I get so many questions about what to do with pillows when someone wants to sit down in the chair. Here’s what I do… I tell my company to put the pillow they don’t want to lean on in a big pillow basket I have on hand in each room!
LOVE this Pottery barn pillow! Can you see what a big difference a little layering can make?
Now I’m going a to add another pillow. Yes, I am. I have quite the pillow addiction and have the perfect pillow to bring more color and more texture to the chair vignette. Two pillows may be too much for you, and that’s okay! If I didn’t have the perfect pillow to go with the first floral one, I would probably have used just one!
Totally pretty together, don’t you think? Another POTTERY BARN OUTLET pillow! If you want… you can stop layering right now! The chair looks “finished”! And it’s loaded with decor interest! And yes, I knife cut this pillow for a little more, you got it, interest!
But if you want that extra WOW factor let’s continue!
Adding pieces to the area around a chair can work to make a chair a focal point. You might not want to add things around every piece of furniture you have in a room. YIKES… OVERKILL! Let’s just add focal point layers to one piece of furniture in a room. Add layers to others, but not as many!!!!
Let’s add a green garden stool as a small table next to the spindle chair.
It’s so pretty and introduces and enhances the green in the embroidered pillow. It also brings in a shiny element… very important to mix textures in a vignette!, I think the green garden stool looks a little bit lost without itself!
Let’s add a cobalt blue piece of pottery in front of the garden stool. Now our eye can travel from the blue pottery to the green garden stool to the chair. Our eyes love love love different heights!
And while we are at it let’s add a standing pole lamp. Now look at the varied heights in our layered vignette!
I think the layers we have added are working so nicely together! And this chair looks wonderfully complete!
But, hold on… let’s add one more thing. Well, actually we are going to a more than one!
Let’s add a glass and metal tray to the top of the garden stool. One shiny texture and a touch of black! I adore a little black in most decorating!
I shopped my house and added a little light from the kitchen, a pitcher of PeeGee dried hydrangeas and a little, french, striped pitcher
The vignette is done! We went from…
- DIFFERENT TEXTURES
- DIFFERENT PIECES
- DIFFERENT HEIGHTS
- GREAT LIGHTING
- COORDINATING PIECES
- ONE LAYERED FOCAL POINT PER ROOM
AND PRACTICE! Lots and lots of practice!
