ACCESSORIZE YOUR HOME WITH A FEW TRAYS

I LOVE trays! I use them to serve food, to corral a vignette, use as a bed tray, stash book and magazines in and more! They are one of my favorite home decor accessories because they are so versatile!
My favorite way to use trays is to create pretty vignettes in them! Right now I have one vignette in a tray in the living room, family room, breakfast nook and in my master bedroom. Yes, I do like trays!
Here are a few trays that I found for you…
CANDLES, CANDLE HOLDERS, AND LANTERNS ARE THE PERFECT ACCENT DECORATION

Candle and candlesticks are not just for late night dinners. They are fabulous accent decorations you can add to your decor to give your home a layer of WOW!
I like to add them to vignettes, put them in bookshelves and on my mantel and more!
Here are a few candles holders I’m crushing on.ll
PILLOWS AS ACCESSORIES

I must admit, pillows are my go-to way to accessorize a room. They are like room jewelry!
I use them on sofas, chairs, beds and even peeking out of baskets. Make sure you read A CASUAL PILLOW ARRANGEMENT YOU SHOULD TRY. What an easy way to arrange pillows on a sofa!
Here are a few foundational pillows you might like…
THROWS ARE ESSENTIALS

I think of throws as a near and dear cousin of the pillows. They add color, texture and so much “pretty”. Every room (except maybe bathrooms and kitchens) need the softness and fluff of a throw! Think of them as essential decor!
A little tip… use a throw over a chair, bed, and/or sofa you are not crazy about and it seems to make the offending furniture look far less offensive! I need to recover the chair above. It’s very dated but the throw tend to soften the look making it so much more pleasing!
Here are a few of my favorite throws…
POOF FOR PRETTY FOR FUN AND TEXTURE
Do you have a spot for a poof? They are so on trend right now and add lots of fun to a room! A poof can fill a bare spot under a desk or table or they work great in front of a chair!
If you think a room needs a little something but don’t know what, think about adding a poof! It’s a way to add a very trendy accent decoration to your home! And it’s so useful too!
Here are a few of my favorites…
VASES ARE ESSENTIAL DECOR FOR YOUR HOME

I’m not a big collector. No precious tchotchkes! But I do collect practical home accessories! Like vases! Small, tall, wide-mouth, glass, ceramic and more! They are an important part of my home decorating accessories!
Think beyond holding flowers and twigs and leaves and things. Yes, they are great at that but they can also stand alone as an object d’ art!
Collect a well curated stash of vases to use in every room!
Here are my favorites…
BOWLS AND DISHES FOR EVERY ROOM

Don’t overlook another utilitarian but fabulous collectible… dishware. Choose pretty decorative bowls or plates to add a bit of color to your room. Also, you can get a little wild and decorative dishware that does not necessarily blend into the rest of your decor, causing a bit of much needed visual tension in a room.
Here are ways to accessorize a room with bowls, big and small in your home…
- stack them for visual height
- use them in a vignette
- float one large flower in a pretty small bowl
- keep a bowl next to your bedside to put jewelry in
- make a bowl a little container for succulents or other small plants
- use them to perch on a stack of books
Look at these great decorative bowls…
Also, here’s how to accessorize a room with dishes…
- stack them as a riser and add a fun accent piece to the top
- hang them on a wall and use them as art
- use them to decorate a hutch or bookcase
- use small plates that coordinate in place of coasters
- put a small plate on a dresser, by a sink or on a bedside table for jewelry
ORGANICS REAL AND FAUX ARE ESSENTIAL DECOR

If you are part of the StoneGable community then you know how much I love to use organic things in my home. Especially, if they are faux!
If you don’t have access to the real thing think about finding a very realistic faux. Here’s my rule, if you cannot tell if something is real or faux from one foot away then the faux is fabulous! Organics are a must when thinking about decor accessories that make a huge difference in a room!
I look at faux blooms and other stems as an investment. I collect several every year. And now I have a wonderful stash of flowers all year long!
I love organic moss balls and use them to fill bowls for a pretty look! You can create them yourself and they are so so easy to make. See the TEXTURED MOSS BALL DIY HERE.
Here are some of my favorites…
MIRRORS ADD LIGHT AND BRIGHTNESS

I think every room in your home deserves a mirror! They are magical, adding extra light and an artful element to any room.
We usually use large mirrors but forget small ones. And they can add so much interest to a wall or bookshelf!
Shape is very important when choosing a mirror. You might want to “mirror” (I could not resist) shapes in your room. For example, if you have a round coffee table you might want to add a round mirror to the wall.
I particularly love mirrors grouped together on a wall. They fill up a wall like a big mirror and are so interesting!
We often don’t think of them as accent decorations for your home, but they are!
These are some of my favorites…
You can see how easy it is to make this trio of painted me mirrors from plastic chandelier ceiling medallions. See BEAUTIFUL PAINTED MEDALLION MIRRORS HERE.

ESSENTIAL DECOR ACCENT LAMPS

I love love love accent lamps. They are utilitarian and also add tons of beauty/ interest and height to a room!
Think floor lamps, table lamps, task lamps, accent lamps and more!
Here’s my take on lighting. I don’t like to spend a lot on this home decor accessory. There are so many really well made, designer-style lamps on the market today. But here’s where I will spend an extra dollar or two, on the shade!
A cheap shade will give your accent lamp away! Spend a bit and get a great lampshade that is a little larger than you think you need. Right now I’m all about drum shades!
Look at these great lamps! I have the floor lamp from Pier 1 (and so does Suzy from Worthing Court). This is a great lamp!!!!!
DECORATIVE BASKETS ARE A DECOR MUST

I must admit I have quite a weakness for baskets! They are full of texture and can be the best decor items to stash lots of things away and out of sight!
I use them to put pillows in and a container for plants. There are so many uses for baskets!
Every room in my home has at least one large basket in it. And I change them around a lot!!!! Go for baskets with interesting textures, designs, weaves, and shapes!
Here are some great baskets…
DECORATIVE BOXES ARE A HOME DECOR ACCESSORY EVERY HOME NEEDS
Small boxes are an accent treat! I’ve been slowly collecting them and they really add a layer of detail to a room!
I think you get what you pay for when it comes to these precious boxes. Think of them as a very pretty investment!
I love these boxes…
SMALL PICTURE FRAMES ARE DECOR ESSENTIALS

I know you don’t see many small pictures of my family decorating my home. That’s only because I blog.
I love small family pictures in distinctive frames soooo much! The desk in my sitting room off my bedroom is littered with darling frames and even more darling family pictures!
I’m loving sepia or black and white images of family in a mosaic frame lately. Frames, like bowls above, can be a bit wild and not in step with the style or colors of a room. How fun!
I’ve been collecting picture frames and changing out the images as my grand babies grow ?
I bet you can find a picture frame you love below…
DON’T FORGET TO USE CLOCKS

Clocks are quintessential home decorating accessory. They serve a purpose and add to the beauty of a room! I’m crazy about oversized wall clocks!
Lately, I’ve fancied small clocks to perch on a stack of books or to tuck into a bookshelf or vignette.
These are nice choices…

There you go! Lots of home decor accessory ideas and lots of my favorites!

The lovely chair in the corner with the medallion print fabric on it is just what I’m looking for! Can you please share where you got it? I love, ,love, love how you decorate. I’ve used so many of your ideas. Thank you so much!
Oh, I am so happy that StoneGable is helpful to you! The chair came from Wayfair and I do not see it in stock. Sorry! It’s been on their site for a couple years so my guess is the manufacturer does not make it any more!
Hello! The rug that is in the very first picture of this blog, I would love to purchase it, or one that is similar. I have searched for hours on Wayfair, Boutique Rugs, and eSale Rugs with no luck with what I am looking for. I have found some beautiful rugs, but they always seen to have black and the greys in them. Not that I do not like those colores because I do. But, for this rug I would like for it to have cream, tans, beige, and taupe. Seems to be such an impossible task, even with entering my criteria. I know in the past that you have posted links for rugs for purchase, although I cannot seem to find that at this time. Any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I live reading your blogs…thank you! Samela

The accessories are under each heading. Such as TRAYS. There is a line of clickable images of trays you can peruse. Hope this helps, Sandy! Thank you for being a StoneGable reader!
Yvonne, I love this particular blog and pick up on some new thoughts/ideas each time I refer to it! In the section “Organics Real and Faux” are the branches in the vase of moss balls on your mantel real or faux? If faux, do you recall where you got them? I like the little bit of green on the branches! Hope you are safe and well and having a good summer. Thanks for all your awesome tips and great knowledge that you so willingly share!
Hi Shebe! I hope you are safe too! The branches came from a local shop. Sorry I don’t have a source.
Love your new picture you’ve had up the last few days! Looks like you have lost lots of weight! So happy for you!
When you put real flowers in your white vase on the coffee table do you put water directly into the vase or a glass insert?
If the container is watertight I put water right into the container. If not, I put them in a plastic insert.
One of your best posts yet, and I have been a fan for years.
Yvonne, a while back you promised a link to the wood vases/bowl you display. Can you post it now? Thanks.
I have all of your above suggested accessories but would love to know where you found the coat hangar by your front door?
Joanna, the coat hanger came from Pottery Barn
Thank you! I’m going to check Pottery Barn right now.
I was so surprised to see that I have the same chair (large circles in pale blue)as you do. I love your decorating style
Isn’t it a comfortable chair? We love it and the price is so good!
