I love anything that has the word “farmhouse” in front of it! How about you? This week I’m working on my farmhouse kitchen and getting it ready for Spring! BTW… I love the word S-P-R-I-N-G too!!! I’m adding just a little bit of color to my neutral kitchen. It’s got to be a pretty spring green. And I’m sharing a fun way to display faux spring branches!
My soapstone kitchen island is six feet long! And it’s used hard!!!!! Cooking, blogging, entertaining, crafting and even some heart-to-heart-ugly-crying-talks! So I don’t want a lot of fussy anything on it. What goes on the island must have lots of decor value and can be whisked off easily when the island is called into use!
I found these fabulous jars on Amazon. Oh, they were calling my name. I knew I could use them for so many things! This spring they are showing off on my kitchen island!
I added just a 3 twiggy sprays in each big jar. Sometimes just a wee bit of twiggy blooms works best!
And I added burlap and moss balls to the bottom of the jar. They has a dual purpose. First they are a pretty way to add a pop of interest to the bottom of the jar and they also hold the branches in place, sorta like a big mossy flower frog!
You can see how to make very easy burlap balls HERE! And next week I’ll have another easy diy for some really cool moss and twine balls!
Did you notice the fun polka dot runner… a find from HomeGoods! It was just serendipity that it worked so well with the burlap balls! And polka dots are so sassy. They remind me of spring!
What are you decorating right now? I’d love to hear!
Remember to pin this to your SPRING or DECOR Pinterest board. You can follow me on Pinterest and see all the fun Spring things I am finding HERE!
Love the green, so refreshing.

Did you go through your Amazon purchases so you can share the description and dimensions of the jars? You can go back and see all your purchases on Amazon over many years. I would like to know what the description of the vases are they are gorgeous. I think the IKEA ones are a lot smaller
IKEA has a similar jar/vase for $19.99 Begarlig 11 1/2″
Looks just lovely! Nice and bright and cheery. Happy Easter to you and your family!
Your kitchen island looks so pretty Yvonne!!
Your home is so beautiful! I love the jars! Are they 2.5 gallon or larger than that? Did they come with lids?
Looks about 2 1/2 gallons.
Hi Lynn, I’m not sure of their capacity and they did not come with lids.
I heart those fabulous jars…so I shall be on the lookout for some like those…they look amazing on the kitchen island….love that something that is adorned fairly simply can look like a million bucks…and you have a gift of doing just that!
My favorite blog !! I love your decorating style & have gotten a lot of ideas from you. I look forward to reading your blog every day. Thanks!!!
Love your kitchen Yvonne:) The touches of spring green look fabulous in your kitchen! Thanks for sharing your easy Spring Farmhouse Touches;)
Hi Yvonne! Your Spring display is lovely! It’s just enough to make a large impact. I was wondering if your soap stone counters are easy to take care of? Is there much maintenance to them?
They are amazing. I love them!!! Soapstone is practically upkeep free! I just wipe them down like any regular countertop and once a month (I do it more often) wipe them down with mineral oil to keep them shiny. Hope this helps LuAnn!
Love the green in your kitchen. Do you take your own pictures and if you do what kind of camera do you use. You have the most beautiful pictures.
I never did find where you or if you posted on how to make the plate apron holders. I have roosters in my blue kitchen and some rooster plates that I would like to make like the ones that you have. I also collect, make and wear aprons, funny how when you get used to wearing an apron you cannot cook with out one or even do the dishes.
Just love your house.
Wanda
I know, Wanda! I’ve been swamped with decorating and posting and writing my book. I have it on my list to do and post. Please be patient! Thanks!
Hi! Your blog is the first one I look for each day! Thanks for the inspiration of using jars and branches. If you look at your Amazon account and search your purchases you might find out more about the jar search and purchase. If you do, I’d like more info about them too. Thanks again for sharing your beautiful home with us!

I love your kitchen counters and am interested in your thoughts on the pros and cons of soapstone. I am planning on a kitchen renovation and love the look of soapstone. Thank you!
Barb, I love my soapstone!!! It’s so easy to live with and very durable. Here is a post with info about soapstone and a little bit about why I chose them. http://www.stonegableblog.com/5-questions-you-asked-stonegable/
Yvonne!!!!! I am so stealing this idea from you! I have an island too and never know what to put on it. The jars are a clever idea, and one can change the color scheme depending on the occassion. Love, love, love them!!! Love your kitchen by the way!

See you there! I can’t wait!
I am a new follower and love all your beautiful ideas. Your home is lovely. I would like to know more about how you store all your decorations?
Can you point me to a previous article on this?
Blessings Annette
Hi Annette, I have never done a post on storing year round decor. It’s very much like how I store Christmas decor. You can find that post here:http://www.stonegableblog.com/the-best-christmas-decorating-tip-you/
I just finished decorating my mantel for spring with vine swag, wreaths, bird nests with birds and eggs and handmade kites with long tails. I love your island, but right now mine just has a little collection of spring candles while I use it as part of my crafting work space.
Love it! Very nice and simple !! Maybe you should add a moss bunny sitting !
This has inspired me to work on a couple of my jars. Mine are spring green! Now to find some twiggy branches! Thanks for the inspiration!
Sheila
The soft spring green is my favorite accent this year and yours is so lovely…those jars are amazing!
JP
I noticed the measuring cups hanging in the background… is that just a towel bar? Love it!
Hi Deanna,
The bar came from Ikea. Cheap and fabulous! I have another bar with cups hanging near my kerig.
Beautiful and airy! Perfect for Spring! Is that your new backsplash behind your stovetop?
Hi Catherine,
That is not a backsplash, but a big chalkboard. I’m going to use it to write recipes.
I thought it might be – great idea!!! Love your impeccable style!
Simple yet beautiful Yvonne, My island is well used too and my favorite place in the house.
I love those jars too, and have to find them! Can you remember how you searched? Large glass jar? Did they come with lids?
Lisa, I went on a mission today and found some huge jars similar to these at Home Goods!!!! I even found some balls that are similiar to these. I love this whole thing on the island and I am trying to recreate it! Yvonne is the best at decor. Love all her ideas!!
Good luck and happy shopping!
Thank you for sharing this info. I have a Home Goods about 10 miles from me. I hope to get there soon on my next trip in that direction. ๐

Lisa, I am so so sorry.. it is just not coming to me!
It’s possible to go back in your amazon purchase history (for years) to see where you got them. ๐
I’d love to know as well!
Hi Yvonne ~
So pretty ~ so spring ~
I love the way the burlap ball look inside the jar. You could probably do the same thing with yarn.
I think I am going to try this one. You always give me such great ideas.
Have a wonderful rest of your week
Rose
You are such a wealth of inspiration! Just finished decorating the kitchen for spring. Mini tour on my blog.
Perfection!!!
I love this, Yvonne! Simple & beautiful! Have a wonderful day!
What a wonderful idea!! You can use the inspiration and add your own colors. My head is spinning with ideas right now. Thank you Yvonne — you are such a font of inspiration. Oh! What’s on the menu for Easter? I was planning on stopping by ๐ for just a minute or so.
I will have my Easter table and menu on Saturday… I hope!
Those big jars are show stoppers and I love the simplicity of the arrangements! Everything looks wonderful including your checked black and white plates ๐

I love your Spring design!! And those are wonderful! Where can I find them on Amazon?
Happy Spring!!!
IKEA has theses vases/jars Begarlig 11 1/2″ $19.99
Yvonne, can you tell me what color your kitchen cabinets are painted? I’m looking for a creamy white, and your’s look like they are that color, but sometimes they also look just white. if you can remember what color they are can you let me know? Thank you so much, and I enjoy seeing all your post. Your farmhouse is absolutely beautiful!!
Hi Paula, my kitchen cabinets are white. Benjamin Moore Atrium White. I don’t have great light in the kitchen for photographing so some times the colors are a little off!
I knew someone might ask me that! So sorry , I can’t remember. UGH… I have to remember to write this kind of thing down!
Lovely and cheerful. I love sassy polkadots, too. And, I love that these lovely arrangements could fit into any color scheme. Nicely done. ๐ Susie
