This past week our family went out to dinner at a local steakhouse chain. You know the one that has free peanuts and two-steppin’ servers and plays country music’s top 40 and embarrasses birthday folk by making them sit on a big saddle! YEE-HAA! Yes, that’s the one! And something in that loud and happy restaurant got me thinking……

WAITING FOR SUPERMAN!
If you were in dire trouble and needed to be saved by a superhero who would you pick to come to the rescue? I would pick Superman! Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound……

GLAZED LEMON ZUCCHINI BREAD
Zucchini are one of the most underrated vegetables in the garden. They are huge producers and only get a nod or recognition for it!!! But, I’ve found a recipe that does what Marinara Sauce did for the tomato and what Buffalo Wings and Bleu Cheese did for celery! Glazed Lemon Zucchini Bread is THE BEST loaf bread I have ever eaten! It is super moist and delicate and lemony! It elevated the humble zucchini to super star status… a position long overdue! If you make one thing with a zucchini this summer, this has to be it……
Ina Garten’s Perfect Roast Chicken With A StoneGable Twist
Is there anything more “Ina Garten” than ROAST CHICKEN? Those of us who love her easy-going attitude and deliciously made dishes know that she makes a roast chicken almost every Friday for Jeffrey, her husband. And her chickens are legendary! I don’t have a Jeffrey (or a television show, published cookbooks, house in the Hamptons…) but I do have a Bobby who loves the way I cook, and love roast chicken. Ina’s Perfect Chicken is her signature recipe! I wanted to make it in homage to our favorite Food Netwook star… BUT I just had to put a……
Linzer Torte Cookies
Is there something you have wanted to learn or do? Something that every time you think about it will brings a smile to your face and a sigh in your heart? Little or big, just pursue it! One little thing that I have always wanted to make is Linzer Torte Cookies… for years and years. I think they are so beautiful and look scrumptious! But, as many of you know, I am NOT a baker. And I am very intimidated about all things baking. It is too much chemistry for me. I am more of a free spirit in the kitchen. But embracing my own advice,……
Woodland Tablescape
What do you collect when you walk in the woods? Acorns, moss, feathers, pine cones. How about fallen nests or a pair of naturally shedded antlers? Today’s tablescape is inspired by a walk in the woods on a late fall day. The wanted to evoke a natural, rustic, organic feel.. nothing fussy or overly embellished. And that is hard for me, I LOVE to embellish everything! Pulling an old worn utility table out of the garage and setting a table in the side yard adds to the natural, no fuss feel. This table was my grandmother’s. It’s the real thing, chippy……
Individual Chicken Pie
Comfort Food- Individual Chicken PiesAs a part of Menu Planning this week (see blog 12/ I3/09) I challenged myself to use what was in my bursting-at-the-seams freezer and pantry. So, I am only cooking from my freezer till everything is gone! I vastly cut my grocery budget (AGHHHHHHH!) too! I may need lots of support, and I can’t imagine what foodie friday will look like in a few weeks but I am determined. ( A special thank you to Maggie at The White Farmhouse for a turtorial on how to cook venison- love you for that!)I had cooked and cubed chicken……

Steak Fajitas: Fajitas are BIG favorites in my house, and I have several recipes for them. All of the recipes have one major taste enhancer in common… jalapeno pepper jelly!
