What is the very first thing you decorate for Christmas? Your front door? Your tree? Your kitchen? I decorate my mantel first. It’s sets the mood and theme for the rest of my home. This year I am taking a very soft, neutral, organic take on Christmas. My theme ALL IS CALM ALL IS BRIGHT, taken from my favorite Christmas carol Silent Night is brought to life on the mantel and looks like a quiet walk in the woods.

Please see the list of great bloggers who are participating at the bottom this post! A big thank you to Sonya from AT HOME WITH THE BARKERS and Melissa from DAISY MAE BELLE for putting this great Christmas Tour together!!!
The clock came off the mantel, but the chippy shutters stayed. In place of the clock I added a very old, chippy 9 pane window. It has been sitting in my basement for years with it’s original goo and grime and dirt crusted all over it. After a good window cleaning and a little dusting up on the mantel it went. I’m thinking it might stay on the mantel for a while. I love the soft look!
I used neutral colored snowy trees and tall sugar pine cones standing on end in white bowls. A big galvanized metal box with a chalkboard front says, “All Is Calm All Is Bright” is filled with all things nature… deer sheds, pinecones, greens, willow balls and feathers.
A tree is perched on a little black bench along with a big sugar pinecone!
My mantel will evolve this year, so look for more posts!

Yep you are right! The mantel gets it first in my house…it just helps me get started and keeps me moving till it’s all done, The tree is last.
So pretty, Yvonne! I love that feathery wreath.
Lovely Yvonne! Silent NIght is my favorite! I love your mantel especially the feather wreath.

Yvonne, as always- you inspire me my friend. Such a gorgeous mantle and a fitting theme ~ xo
Wow! What a beautiful mantle! I love the natural look! It feels so soft and meaningful for this time of year. Thank you for sharing your talent! Can you please tell me where to find some antlers? I have been looking for months but New Orleans is not over run with deer.
I look forward to reading your blog each day. You are so gifted and talented and I love everything you do! I was wondering if you could say where you found the precious little stool and the chalkboard box? My sister lives near Lancaster and I just love the shops they have in your area. It is harder to find these things in my area. Thanks for the help!
No mention about the fabulous feather wreath? Did you make it? Where did you buy it? It’s the statement piece.
Hi Dee, I got the wreath at Luckett’s. A vintage country store in Leesburg, Va.
Yvonne, what a beautiful mantel display you’ve created! I love your theme so clearly stated on your chalkboard box! I have some shutters on my mantel but they’re not as chippy as yours so I think I’ll remedy that tomorrow!
It’s just beautiful Yvonne!! I love the color palette and that wreath is amazing. I start with my mantels too so we are kindred spirits in yet another area my friend! Blessings to you,
Vanessa
Yvonne – I am not generally a fan of overly done up mantles with screaming themes, but for Christmas, the theme is so obvious and uplifting, that I think it’s the time to do it up! This is stunning! How very lovely to see such restraint in color and I think your choice of materials are spot on. Thank you for this inspiration for the most holy time of the year.

I love the mantel…where did you find the neutral trees? I’m using burlap…this year…the trees and the wreath are pefect!! 🙂
Hi Connie, I got the trees at a Country Store called Luckett’s in Leesburg VA.
Thanks!! 🙂
I LOVE your style!! I always look forward to your posts and the next season! I was wondering…where did you find your feather wreath?
Thanks!!
The feather wreath came from Luckett’s. A Country Store in Leesburg, VA.
Thanks!!
Love the mantel!
Lovely, Yvonne! Our mantel hosts the reason for the season, the Nativity. If I don’t put it there, it just doesn’t seem right! I display several, but the mantel is always filled with fresh greens and the Nativity set .
Love your theme! Lovely mantle. All you need is a dusting of snow settled in the window panes! Makes me want to grab a cup of hot cocoa!
all is calm now…let’s hope all season long. beautiful
Your mantel is gorgeous! I love the natural touches and the theme you’ve chosen is beautiful! Looking forward to seeing more of your Christmas decorating! 🙂
I love this years theme Yvonne…it’s beautiful! Love the old window pane with the feather wreath hanging from it!
Oh my! Your mantel is just beautiful. I am particularly into feathers this Fall for some reason, using pheasant feathers in my Fall centerpiece and feathers on my napkins, so I am finding your feather wreath just beautiful. There is something about your feather wreath tying in with your “all is calm” theme. The feathers look so soft, like a baby bird could just nestle down in them and sleep, being calm. Your gold trees add the “all is bright”! I am heading out to check out the rest of the mantels!
Beautiful as always, Yvonne!! I just love everything you do! 🙂
As always stunning. I love the neutral pallet, so refreshing and the feather wreath is amazing.
Very pretty Yvonne…off to visit some others. Have a great week.
What a beautiful theme Yvonne! Such a great little reminder during this busy holiday season! Everything you do is just gorgeous and this mantel absolutely beautiful!!
I adore your theme Yvonne…and the pine cones are amazing. Your mantel as a starting point is a brilliant idea…thank you for sharing that!
I love the monochromatic look. It all depends on the year — isn’t that funny. Some years I love the Christmas reds and greens and the very traditional and then there is the beauty of soft colors. You’ve done an excellent job, Yvonne. I’m looking forward to the next decoration installment.
Beautiful mantle….love those trees and the color of those shutters!
This is just BEAUTIFUL! I love those neutral colors! Thanks so much for sharing! Life to the full! Melissa
I love your Woodland Mantelscape!!!..The colors so serene and the layering perfection. Beautiful, beautiful Yvonne! and love that chalkboard box!
Very pretty…I have those large pine cones…always love that look.
I’m so happy you are joining us on the Mantel tour Yvonne! Your decor is gorgeous and calming! Love the neutral colors. ~Sonya
