MERRY AND BRIGHT CHRISTMAS GUEST ROOM

CHRISTMAS IN THE GUEST ROOM- Create a room your guest will love!

I’ve always dreamed of having my bedrooms look as Christmassy as the rest of my StoneGable in December. Full of pretty greens, a tree in each room, little white lights and a red comforter! Christmas cheer in every room! Sometimes StoneGable is more like a hotel than a home! And that is especially true at Christmas. Every room at StoneGable will be full this year… and that’s just how I like it! So this season I’m decking my bedrooms out in festive style!

I call this bedroom the J and J bedroom.  It was my daughter’s bedroom and where she and her husband Jonathan stay when they come home. This year there is a new addition to the J and J bedroom. Baby Anderson will be joining his mommy and daddy!

This picture of Jacqueline and Jonathan captures their sweet young love!

I like to keep my guest rooms pretty free of clutter. It gives my guest more room to move around.

Bobby and I trimmed the bed with a real cedar garland.

I tied a pretty red plaid bow on each bedpost. Plaid is so trendy this year!

If you want tips to keep your live greens fresh longer click HERE. We sprayed the cedar with a antitranspirant so they will last much longer and not drop. You can find out what I used HERE.

CHRISTMAS IN THE GUEST ROOM- Adding festive touches to a guest roomThis year I bought Christmas bedding for this room. I’ve always wanted special bedding for the holidays! I found this pretty red washed velvet on sale (40% off) at my local Pottery Barn Outlet. The quilt and pillow shams have a  soft silk edge.

I also got a faux fur pillow for the bed!

The bed tray is decorated with a lantern and a little footed silver bowl of white pinecones and boxwood.

The candle in the lantern is battery operated and is on a timer. In the evening the candle gives off such a welcoming glow!

On the animal print side table, a small white pitcher is filled with greens, berries, and a pinecone.

Opposite the bed is a cozy chair and a little Christmas tree on an old stool.

The fun and festive reindeer pillow is from Society 6 and is a creation of my friend Ann, On Sutton Place. Isn’t this a happy pillow? And it’s a nice big one too! Ann is so talented and I love her work!

A boxwood wreath hangs on a plate that belonged to my paternal grandmother. It’s the only thing I own from my father’s side of the family.

  1. Good Morning Yvonne, You really brought a smile to my face when you mentioned that your dream was to decorate every room with a sprinkle of Christmas, because I would love to be able to do the same. Many years ago I saw the Christmas film Home Alone, and all I could see was the Christmas decorations in every room. I adore red and green, so of course the Home Alone decor was perfect for me. I had never seen a house fully decorated for Christmas, until that is, I popped over to visit you.
Your daughter will love returning to her Christmas bedroom, because it is beautiful. You have taken so much time to make the beautiful garland around the bed…. what a lovely touch.
My fellow readers, will return again and again to visit you because you are so inspirational.
    Have a wonderful weekend.
    Best Wishes
    Daphne

  2. Yvonne,

The bedroom looks like a dream! Who wouldn’t want to sleep in that bed? It would feel like you were sleeping in a magical tree house!

  3. Anne Marie says:

    Beautiful bedroom – so comforty.

  4. I can almost smell that cedar garland through my screen! I started decorating our bedrooms last year & we all really enjoy it. The boys each have their own trees in their rooms that they decorate(with a little help for the spots they can’t reach!) & I added garland to our headboard/footboard, mini trees, wreath and some greenery pieces scattered around the room.

  5. So lovely…..your daughter and family will love being in this room! You didn’t forget any details!

  6. Sandra Barnhart says:

I think I wouldn’t mind sleeping in that room myself. Beautiful!

  7. What a great room, make me wish I could spend a night sleep there. Wonder where I could still add some holiday decorations? Thanks for the inspiration. Enjoy the weekend.

    1. Thank you,H Daphne. I too loved the home in Home Alone. In its time it was truly magnificent1

  24. What a beautifully festive room! I’d love to stay in this room! I love the bedding! It is so hard to hear about all the great deal people get at the pottery barn outlet, since there is not one close to us. I about choke when I buy something at our pottery barn, knowing that they will sell the same thing for so much less at their outlet! I’m sure your daughter and family feel very special and loved staying there.

  25. So pretty. Elegant, Christmassy and a touch whimsical, just love it. Happy Christmas to all at Stonegable xx

  27. Yvonne, that room is absolutely beautiful. How fun for your family to feel all the love you put into making them feel special.
    Pat

  28. Love what you did! Will the cedar garland last a long time?

    1. It will last a couple of weeks, especially if you spray it. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas, Lauri!

  29. Love your guest room. It’s so cozy and welcoming. I’m working on a Christmas quilt to add to mine but it probably won’t be ready until next year. In the meantime I have a Santa Claus throw and pillow I put on the bed and want to add a few more decorative items.

  30. Such a beautiful, welcoming room for family or friends!

  38. Elaine Wesselman says:

  39. genie steger says:

Love the guest room, just as warm and comfy as a B&B, all the personal touches, and plaid, to me, never really goes out of style, especially at Christmas!!!!!!

  40. Marcy Leonard says:

Really beautiful and serene, Yvonne! I had to get up and close the door to our guestroom to continue reading–last night’s massive tree-trimming extravaganza went into over-time, and that room is wall-to-wall boxes! All the simple touches are perfect for Christmas! Wherever did you find that candle ON A TIMER?–how genius is that!

  41. Just beautiful! And so thoughtful to decorate the guest room so that guests who are away from home during the holidays can enjoy the festive ambience.

  42. I love the four post bed – and the greenery adds a true holiday touch. My only problem is I can’t have live greenery inside due to allergies. But if I found faux greenery that looked real enough, that is something I could use over the large armoire that is in our guest room. I keep our guest room pretty sparse, as well. However, for the 6 weeks around Christmas, that room takes on a real holiday feel with it’s own tree, winter bedding, switching out some of the art for more winter related scenes, etc. I probably enjoy the transformation of that bedroom more than any other. 🙂

  43. Oh my!!! Your guest room is so charming and inviting. Do you ever have trouble getting your guests to leave?

  44. You should operate a bed and breakfast. Your bedrooms are so inviting and warm. I would feel like a princess sleeping there.

  45. An absolutely adorable bedroom! Love the deer pillow! And the red velvet quilt makes you just want to “snuggle” in for the night! Well done Yvonne!

  46. This guest bedroom is so inviting and warm. I love all the red and white with touches of green.

  47. Ruth Harris says:

Love the red cover on the bed. Also the fresh green’s on top of bed frame…. Merry Christmas!

  48. I decorate bedrooms and bathrooms, but never thought to change bedspreads. After Christmas sales, here I come!
Thank you for so many great decorating tips.
    Merry, Merry

  54. This room says “Merry Christmas” come in and rest a while…beautiful!

  55. What a beautiful guest room! So festive and merry. I love the idea of decorating just a bit in the other rooms of our farmhouse too. The funny thing is, every single year, we forget at least one decoration in one of our rooms and when we find it, we have to haul out the Christmas décor tote and stow it away. It makes us laugh every year!

  56. The garland and red throw are my favorites! I just love all of your decor!

  57. Such a welcoming guest room.i know it will be so nice to have the family all together over the holiday season. I hope you get another Christmas pic on the stairs. So cute!

  78. Your family is going to LOVE staying in that room! I bet is smells WONDERFUL! Love the Christmas touches. Inquiring minds want to know… Is there a story behind the animal print side table? I haven’t seen much animal print on your site… however, it may be just because I’m a ‘newb’. 😉

  79. jeanne Lampman says:

    Always beautiful!!!

    iNSPIRING

  80. i agree, i love it when my house is full of people i love. piles of towels in the laundry room, loads of dishes to wash, crazy full refrigerators mean the people i love best are here. my mother in law always decorated every room and had a wreath on each bedroom door. I have followed that tradition and think of her when i see a hallway of doors adorned with wreaths of all styles. my sewing/laundry room door has a wreath of buttons. it is so funny that we all love the Home Alone house! i am going to watch it again soon just to see that house!

  81. Enjoyed the reshare. So pretty!

  82. Beautiful! Very festive. Would love sleeping in this room.
