5 PERSONAL QUESTIONS YOU ASKED STONEGABLE…AND I’M ANSWERING!

5 PERSONAL QUESTION YOU ASKED STONEGABLE- and I'm answering-stonegableblog.com

I get lots of emails from my readers. I really love to hear from you! Many of you ask about my decor, or my paint color, or my dishes, or where I got something … most questions are about decor or cooking or gardening and diy’s! But there are also some more personal questions that keep popping up. So, I’m answering the 5 most asked PERSONAL questions my great reader ask!

1. DO YOU DO ALL THE WORK ON YOUR BLOG YOURSELF?

5 PERSONAL QUESTIONS YOU ASKED STONEGABLE-stonegableblog.com

The answer is YES! Like most bloggers, I’m a one girl show!  I think up the creative subject matter and design, research ideas and subject matter, keep a detailed blogging calendar, create the post, write the post, edit the post (I admit… I really bad at this!), style the decor, do all my own photography, and edit my images. I also write a daily newsletter (join on my sidebar… get lots of great seasonal posts in one place) and share my post and other’s posts on all my social media outlets.  I also try to keep active in my blogging community and I love being a part of bHome (a free app for your smart phone.. check it out here)! One of my favorite daily “jobs” is to keep up with and answer email from my wonderful readers!

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg of what I do daily!

There’s a whole lot more that goes into blogging but much of it is technical and not very sexy and sometimes not so fun! Like when a post link breaks or my site crashes or I’m up until 3:00am learning some new plug in on Wordpress!

But I mostly love everything about blogging!

Blogging is more than a 40 hour a week job for me. I work EVERY DAY! Yes, ever day!!!  And some times I work into the wee hours of the morning. But, I’m not complaining… I have the best job in the world!

Blogging has opened up whole new worlds to me! I never knew how much I love taking photographs and writing! I also am wild about graphic design! And I have met some of the most fabulous people blogging. My blogging community is filled with the best, sweetest, kindest and most loyal and helpful women… and a few men. REALLY!!! WE ARE A SORORITY OF NICE GIRLS (okay, and men too)!

Here’s another thing you should know about the way I blog. I want a post to do four things… entertain, inform/teach, inspire or give something away. If a post does not meet at least two of those criteria I don’t post it! AND every post I do has YOU in mind!

I adore my readers!!!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!

2. DO YOU MAKE MONEY BLOGGING?

5 PERSONAL QUESTIONS YOU ASKED STONEGABLE- answering your questions-stonegableblog.com

Again, yes! My blog started out, years ago, as a hobby. But, as I got more and more readers and I began to spend more and more time blogging and spent more and more money to bring my dear readers the best posts I could create it became pretty clear that for StoneGable to continue I would need revenue. Two years ago I turned StoneGable into a business and I think my blog is much better for it!

Many readers have no idea how expensive it is to run a blog. And I would not expect you to. Bandwidth, blog designers, blog techs, Wordpress, cameras, equipment, PicMonkey, Viraltag, Hoot Suite, Mail Chimp, blogging conferences, ebook on how to have a better blog, props… lots of props, and all the things that make a picture pretty to look at… and more.

I know that sometimes the ads on StoneGable can be a little distracting… but I hope not annoying! There are some ads I will not use even though they pay very well because I think they detract from the images and content of my blog!

Working my blog like the  business it is has made me very serious about bringing the best I have to my readers!

I love the idea that I have created something out of nothing that inspires people. That is exactly what I want StoneGable to do… INSPIRE you to live the life you love, surrounded by things you love and with people you love!

3. HOW OLD ARE YOU?

5 QUESTIONS YOU ASKED STONEGABLE-I'm answering all of them-stonegableblog.com

Oh goodness! This question has come up several times. The context of the question has been different, but just the same I have been asked my age! YIKES!

I am 61 TODAY!!!! I really am okay with my age! Actually, I love it! I feel like I am still in my 30’s… at least in my mind!!! I am curious person!  An avid, lifelong learner and love to do new things and I think that is what keeps me feeling young! I am passionate about all thing HOME!!!!

Don’t think I’m the grandmotherly stereotype… you would be soooo wrong!!!! That is so not me!

Who knew that I would start a new profession in my 50’s and love it so so much!

As bloggers go… I’m on the mature side! But don’t let my age fool you! I like to stay current with the decor trends while using the wisdom of my years to not get wrapped up in passing fads! I see my age as a great advantage because I am in a awesome season of life!!!! I have two married kids, and my fabulous husband, Bobby!!!! No grandbabies yet so StoneGable is sorta like my baby… and I can give it a whole lot of attention. Yes, it’s a fabulous time to be 61! I like to think that I’m “timeless”!

I love that I have broken some of  blogging’s “glass ceilings”. Two years ago I sat in a conference with magazine editors who told our group, “Unless you are 35-45 you will never be featured in a magazine”. HA! I’ve been in several! I’m also writing a book! And I own a business I adore! Sometimes I have to pinch myself! Blogging is one of the best things I have ever done… and I don’t know if I could have said that if I would be younger!

4. ARE YOU A SOUTHERNER?

5 PERSONAL QUESTION YOU ASKED STONEGABLE- stonegableblog.com

Thank you for asking, but unfortunately, no! I adore southern women! They are sassy and strong and have a code of conduct I admire. And I love love love the way they decorate! I am taken with their style! I’d love to be in the “southern girl” club!!! When someone asks me if I am from the south I take it as the biggest compliment! And I get asked that quite often! Does being a southern girl at heart count?

My favorite southern city is Savannah and I get there as often as I can… just NOT in the summer when the gnats stick to your lipgloss!  If I were a city I’d be Savannah! The first time I visited Savannah was like finding the Mothership! THESE ARE MY PEOPLE!!!! They are adorable and I love their down-home, yet sophisticated, language and saying filled with southern sass! Bless my lil’ heart, y’all!

I am a born and breed northern girl. Although I have lived in California, Texas, Delaware, and Europe as my Daddy was in the Air Force.

I now live in the bucolic (that’s what we say here) and historic area of Lancaster Pa. And no, I’m not Amish!

5. ARE YOU AS ORGANIZED AS YOU LOOK?

5 QUESTIONS YOU ASKED STONEGABLE-answering -stonegableblog.com

Oh heavens, NO!!!! What you see on my blog is real life…  a slice of my real life. You should see the swath of destruction that occurs when I am doing a photo shoot (can I get an “amen” from my fellow bloggers?). You see what’s in front of the camera, but behind it is another story! Putting together a blog can be messy business.

Because StoneGable is a “lifestyle” blog I am not just decorating, or just creating diy’s or just cooking or just crafting or just gardening or just… fill in the blank. I’m doing all of this in my daily life and more because living at StoneGable is all about this kind of lifestyle! It’s really how I’ve always lived. I’ve been blessed with more creativity than one person should be allowed to have! Sometimes I can’t sleep at night because of all the ideas spinning around in my head… but I digress!

And since I work long long hours and create StoneGable all myself things can take on a unkempt life of their own sometimes!

I change things up so much in my home and am ALWAYS in the middle of a diy or some makeover that there are areas of StoneGable that can get pretty chaotic! I try not too let it get too wildly out of hand. Right now my garage and my study look like squatters could be living in them!  At least the rest of the house is under control… sorta!

Since I started blogging my home is better decorated but I must admit it is more disorganized! I do LOVE to be organized but I’m not on top of all the little details like I used to be. There are just not enough hours in the day! Does that sound familiar to anyone?

My new mantra is better to be a tad disorganized than stressed out and on top of it all! I AM A NO DRAMA KIND OF GIRL. And I avoid stress like it was the plague… which it really is. There are real things in life to be stressed out about and being a little disheveled around the corners is not one of them!

5 PERSONAL QUESTION YOU ASKED STONEGABLE-answereing all the questions- stonegableblog.com

I hope this has given you a little peek at the blogger behind the blog and maybe you were wondering about these things too!

Once in a great while I’m very surprised by what one of my readers will ask. And some questions I really could not answer here or anywhere else! But when you email me I love it and try to answer truthfully and quickly and give you my very best!

My favorite emails are from sweet people that tell me they feel like we are best friend, or that they feel like they know me personally or that I must have been reading their minds. I feel that way too! You and I are probably not too different at all!

After all YOU ARE my friend… my community… and I love you… every one! xo

  1. Yvonne, I am a long time reader, and find inspiration from your posts. I love you for many reasons, but most importantly, your love for Jesus Christ. I know we will probably never meet on earth, but I am going to look you up when we get Bach “home”. God bless you. Candy

  2. Dear StoneGable, I love everything about your site! I work at a local architect office in Lancaster and I look at your blog first thing when I get on my computer at work. Your site has the most creative and beautiful ideas and I am always excited to see what you have posted every morning. The wreaths you make are so beautiful. I love the spring tulip wreath and have yet had time to make it. I bought the huge clock to put together a wall gallery. I have been picking up things here and there to complete my gallery along with things I already have. Can’t say enough how your site makes my day. You have a truly wonderful talent for design! Love it ! Thanks Donna

  3. Happy Birthday! Today is my daughter’s thirtieth birthday. I am not sure where all the days and years have gone. Greetings from middle TN.

  4. Happy Birthday sweet Yvonne! I cannot believe anyone would ask you your age!?!?!? I bet they weren’t southern women (just assuming it was women lol) because we NEVER ask a lady her age!! (or weight or true hair color or…….)

I know that your book doesn’t come out until next year but yesterday when I was clearing out my bookcase I made a special place that is reserved for your book! (I am not kidding.) I am going to buy two books- one for the bookcase that is for display and honor and will never be touched and one for me that I am sure will be worn out in a very short time because I will look at it so many times!

Hope you have a wonderful birthday!!

  5. Happy Birthday, Yvonne! I am 67 and start each day with your inspiration, tact and grace. God bless. Eva in Illinois.

  6. Happy Birthday! What a fascinating insight into all the work that goes into creating your blog. I’m sure I speak for all of your readers when I say thank you, it’s very much appreciated x

  7. I am blessed that you took your passion and skills to make such a complete package blog. I ejoying reading and looking at it. Your break-this-scene-down-to-see-why-it-works posts really are helpful.

  8. First….Happy Birthday!!!! (and wow you look great I never would have guessed your age) Yours is one of the very few blogs I actually read. Others I skip through the projects, etc. to see if anything interests me. I am Canadian but there seems to be no barriers in your blog where there is in others. I am getting up there in age too so it is so great to hear you say you started your blog later than others and are still successful…I have been toying with the idea….
You are Real and down to earth and that is the sort of person that I make friends with and admire. Your creativity inspires me.
    Bless you!

  9. Happy Birthday, Yvonne! Oh, I enjoyed this post so much. I’ve been reading your blog a long time and I could always tell how hard you work on it. You have a beautiful blog and I you do give us so much inspiration! Your staging and photography is just awesome. Thanks for all you do!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

Have a great day & wonderful year!

  11. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YVONNE! You are a blessing to your readers, and I so appreciate the way you weave your faith into your blog. I knew right away I was reading a blog from a kindred spirit! God bless you, friend!

  12. Wonderful post! Thanks for the behind the scenes peek.
Happy Birthday Yvonne. Many happy returns of the day. 🙂
    Hugs, Gee

  13. Thank you for the Q & A session today. A longtime reader and admirer, I had your birthday noted in my calendar, which is quite easy to remember as it is also my wedding anniversary

Best wishes to you, Yvonne, for a year of blessings and good health. May all of your birthday wishes come true!

  14. Happy Birthday, Yvonne! I always thought you were a Southern gal – but you live near me! What a hoot! We’re the same age, as well. I love your blog and am so happy you’ve created a new career for yourself. I can see how it gets expensive – I do tablescapes for Diner en Blanc, a French pop-up picnic held in Philadelphia every year. Lots and lots of white stuff! Congratulations on your wonderful blog – you’re simply amazing!

  15. Thank you for your honesty and I am a bit older than you. I have always loved learning and I don’t think I’ll ever be too old to try something new. Tech things are challenging and I’ve had to learn more about photography and Wordpress and now it is Tailwind but I enjoy it. The challenge is a retired hubby who is home all the time and really doesn’t have a hobby other than fishing — that is fishing on the ocean. We live in Indiana. Although with all this rain we are getting we may have to build an ark. Your blog really shines and it shows the time and care you give it. I do think of you as a friend and I am so happy you’ve made Stonegable a success.

  16. Happy Birthday Yvonne! I read your blog just about every morning before I start my day. I enjoy every post and I am always entertained, informed, and inspired! It is easy to see that you put your (Southern) heart and soul into your work.

  17. I recently found your blog and now you are my favorite spot to relax, and drink my morning coffee with. Thanks for starting my day on an inspirational note. Happy birthday!

  18. I loved your blog, and learning about you. You are one hard working talented lady. Thank you for all your decorating ideas and creativity! God Bless and keep you Strong!

  19. Happy Birthday, Yvonne! I’m so glad you were born! I have enjoyed following your blog for a couple of years now, and I was so surprised to hear you do everything yourself! Super Woman! I started a blog 2 years ago, and after blogging a short period of time, I quit my blog because it was such a huge undertaking! I cannot imagine trying to do all that you do. You are someone that, if I knew you in real life, I would really enjoy being friends with. First of all, your love for the Lord draws me to you. And second, your generous spirit and decor style are so enjoyable and so talented, that I could not miss a day of posts, ever. So I will be content to have you as a blogger friend, and be perfectly happy to know you, even from a distance. Thank you for sharing a part of your self in this post. Makes you feel more down to earth, instead of Super Woman! Judy from Arizona

  20. Happy Birthday, Yvonne!!! I know that I have sent you a few decorating and entertaining questions over the years that I’ve been following your blog, and even though you are obviously a very busy lady, you ALWAYS answer! Thank you so much! I hope you have something fun planned for your birthday.

  21. Happy Birthday Yvonne. I am a new follower to your site having found you 6 mo ago. I too am a born and breed Yankee, but having spent 9 years down south, between North & South Carolina, Mississippi, and Alabama ( thanks to the Air Force) I came to love everything southern. What I love about your site is it’s not just “southern” but about making your home a place for family and friends to feel comfortable. Thank You for sharing everything with us.

  22. Thank you for answering all the questions I’ve been wondering myself! Your blog is my absolutely fave- sort of like having coffee with a best friend each morning before the chaos of the day begins! I’m a northern girl too, but one of my favorite books is “What Southern Women Know about Faith” by Ronda Rich – it’s such a fun, endearing read.
    And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  23. Yvonne,
    Happy Birthday, dear friend!!!
I loved reading the answers to your questions. . .most of which I already was aware of!!!
I love the part about “what’s behind the scenes”. . you’ll get an AMEN, here Sister!!!
Lately, I’ve had to deal with multiple “photo booming” from “Mr. Ed”. . .those can be fun!!!
I’m thrilled that you continue to do all that you do in a day’s time and still continue to blog!!!
Your Timeless Classic style is so~o~o inspiring!!!
I try to always be a faithful follower!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  24. Happy Birthday, Yvonne!! As one of the other “mature bloggers”, it’s so good to see someone in our age bracket becoming such a huge success. I’m still at the hobby stage in my blog (make a bit of money, but not enough to call it income) and have learned so much from you through osmosis – styling, layout, your sidebar alone is worth it’s weight in gold! It’s been fun getting to know you.

  25. Happy Birthday Yvonne! Great post, I enjoyed reading about how you run your blog. I always find your posts inspiring, especially your posts sharing your faith. I’ve enjoyed watching you change decor and always enjoy your recipes. This southern girl thinks we would be the best of buddies behind the scenes! I love reading your blog……………..

  26. Happy Birthay.
Enjoy your blog and I knew I would continue to do so when I learned you were a friend of Our Father.
Is there such a thing as a “honorary southerner”

  27. First of all, I’d like to wish you a very Happy Birthday, Yvonne!! You certainly don’t look your age!

I am WAY older than you (but will love decor until I take my last breath!), live in southern Ontario, Canada and love your beautiful and very classy blog. Like you, I adore everything about the South and got the impression that you lived there too.

I’m kind of glad, though, that you live in Lancaster, Pa. because you aren’t that far away.

I have a question which may be silly but I’ll ask anyway …. will your book be available in Canada?

    Have a wonderful birthday!

    Elaine

  28. Happy Birthday Yvonne! May your day be filled with much love, joy and happiness! I love reading your blog and learning from you and all the beautiful things you share from your heart with us. You are simply amazing!
    God Bless

  29. HAPPY Birthday Yvonne, sure do love your blog and your classy style. Sunday mornings with you are a sweet treat too….thank you for sharing Jesus with us. I think ya’ll will fit right in with us GRITS and Savannah is a favorite of mine also, mercy I love strolling those streets and taking in the houses peeking around gates to see the gardens and the smells of good food floating on the air and the people……you meet so many nice ones and can I say “interesting” ……love it !!! 60’s…….shoot girl that’s the new 40’s!

  30. HAPPY BIRTHDAY YVONNE!

The beauty of our Lord permeates all things Stone Gable!

    Thanks so much.

  31. Happy birthday! Thanks for sharing your love of home with us. Hope you have a special day today☺️

  32. Happy birthday, Yvonne! Your home and your blog are beautiful and I always enjoy the lovely way you put things together! We lived in Alabama for several years and Southern women have so much class and hospitality – you do seem very Southern! Hope you have a lovely day surrounded by family and friends.
    love and blessings~
    Lynda @ Gates of Crystal

  33. Happy Birthday! This was so much fun to read. What a great blog posting! I was comforted to hear that you are a little bit human (Are you organized? question). You always inspire me tremendously, but also make me feel convicted when I see your perfect home. I too am a lifelong learner and crazy about crafts. My basement overflows with things I have to keep because I may craft with them some day and usually do. It’s a problem when you love so many different crafts, but they keep my brain busy and maybe make me a young 64? You are truly such an inspiration to me. I love your work. Blessings to you, lady. We’ll make you an honorary Southern Belle!

  34. Hi Yvonne, Finding your blog last fall has been one of my biggest blessings. I have stumbled in and out of several blogs but yours is the most consistent & professional. I’ve learned so much from your classic style. Thank you for an insider’s view into the world of blogging. You really are inspiring! I found myself smiling at your southern sentiment and once again felt a kindred spirit in you. Thanks again for all you do and share. Blessings!

  35. Yovone,
I am 68 years old and I started reading blogs about a year ago. I worked retail for more years than I care to remember. Your blog is my favorite and I want you to know how much I enjoy it. Your blog makes me feel relaxes and peaceful. Your Su day posts are wonderful.
    Happy Birthday and continued blessings.

  36. Happy Birthday Yvonne! I am also your age, I say we are like old wines gets better with age! I came across you blog a few weeks ago and I am loving it! I also live in southern Ontario and hoping you book will be available here.

    1. Oh my goodness! I love love love my Canadian friends. My brother-in-law is from Winnipeg and he is a great example of the great people of Canada!!! Welcome to the StoneGable family Liz!

  37. Happy Birthday! Love your blog. Was just in Savannah for the first time and loved it not enough tithe to explore it all! Have a wonderful day.

  38. TY for this post! You’re enthusiasm and spirit come through, and you’re a great teacher. I’m a Texas realtor and have no time to waste, but today I enjoyed every word of this glimpse inside your world/job.
I love to find others who are wired like me.

    Enjoy your special day!

  39. I found you because I was LOOKING for a blog written by a woman with experience! (I’m 55.) Love your blog. It’s very inspiring.

  40. Happy Birthday, Yvonne!!!!! There are so many people “out there” that love you so much and are so grateful for the beauty that you bring to everyone’s lives. You are the ONLY person I have followed for quite some time now. I followed you at my old job (that I was at 27 years) and I now follow you here at my new job. Your blog “popping” into my day at work refreshes me and helps a dreary day become one of inspiration and excitement for the weekend to come so I can CREATE CREATE!! We love you!! Victoria

  41. Happy Birthday, Yvonne and thank you for this post today. I sure enjoyed reading the questions and answers. I am 52, almost 53 but don’t feel my age and most people tell me I look (and act) much younger. I completely believe in a do what you love…love what you do mantra. Although my job as a paralegal can be stressful, I’m blessed to work for two attorneys that are so pleasant and friendly (yes, they do exist). I craft in my spare time, and love decorating and cooking. I’m a huge fan of holidays, especially Fall/Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. So I will go back and look through your archives to get ideas and inspiration ALL the time. Thank you for what you do!

  42. HAPPY BIRTHDAY YVONNE! 60+ appears to be the new 50+ so I embrace it. You have great genes and look amazing.
I will be 63 in August and all the time folks take a double take when I tell them how old I am. It must be those good genes I inherited from my mom. I think my kids are younger than yours – my oldest is 25 and my youngest will be 22 in November:) Wish I were younger for them at this stage of my life, but they keep me young and I would not trade being blessed with their births or being their mom for anything.

I just want to thank you again for creating such a wonderful blog. I have always been amazed at how simple you make it all look but there is no doubt in my mind the endless hours, money and work that you put in to it.

You have posted in the past where the light over your sink came from but I cannot find it in my Stone Gable file – yes I keep a file on all you GREAT ideas. I’m looking for something unexpected for over my sink. Can you post again where that fun light came from?

  43. I read your blog first thing everyday and am inspired by you and your creativity. Thank you for your honesty and humor. Both are greatly appreciated. Hoping your birthday is filled with everything that makes you smile 🙂

  44. A big Happy 61st Birthday coming your way! I am from small town Eastern Ontario, Canada. I am new reader to your blog and blogs in general, and it appears I am starting with the best! I commend your many accomplishments and thanks for all you do and share with your readers and friends!
I am hoping you will be covering the topic recognizing the treasures when you see them( eg, the black/white tin wear you displayed watermelon in…I loved it in the photo, but not sure I would have seen the potential if I saw it in a clearance bin somewhere). Teaching readers how to avoid the impulse buys that eventually end up in the give away pile vs. missed opportunities when looking for future treasures! Also, what storage system you must have in place for all your beautiful dishes!

Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your behind the scenes peek, it’s re-assuring your whole house is not ready for photos too!

    Anita

  45. Loved reading your blog today. You are perfectly delightful! And you have the same birthday as my son Brian. When I told him, he said it was an honor to share your day! Blessings, Gwen

  46. Happy birthday! You do an amazing job on your blog and I appreciate it. It is one of the blogs I take time to read each day! Your thoughts are relevant, honest and you openly love Christ, which to me is a great perspective! I wish you the best and continued success in every endeavor! In my heritage, we say “Stolat!” – Polish for may you live a hundred years! God bless. Thanks for great answers to things we all wonder about!
    Clare

  47. Happiest of all Birthdays to you, Yvonne … being a southern girl of 74, I welcome you to our way and style of life. When y’all drop by I want you to know that here in the south we are a little bit crazy and we parade it on the front porch and serve it ice tea. Hee, hee .. Love your blog, style, humor and all your inspiration. JC

  48. Happy Birthday to a special lady!!
May God bless you in the year ahead
Thank you for your delightful blog,
    and most special–Sunday Scripture

  49. Happy Birthday, Yvonne! Thank you for giving us a peek into your busy life. You do a wonderful job on your blog and inspire me in many ways. May God send you many blessings today and always.

  50. Happy Birthday Yvonne – many many more – have a wonderful day.

  51. Happy Birthday Yvonne! You inspire me every day!
Thank you for being so true to yourself, that we all feel so connected to you! You are one of a kind and I’m so thankful I found your blog in 2013.

  52. How lovely to know you are an over 60, I have decorated homes in various countries but LOVE Ecuador, even though I am now 71 we just moved into a darling little house in the city of Loja and have truely enjoyed applying many of the StoneGable ideas – some are not practical, but most are. I really appreciate all your hard work and find I can adapt most things to the Andean Highlands. My biggest problem is finding something that replaces what is unavailable here (recipies can be quite a challenge :)) So please, please keep on keeping on at your lovely place there in PA. Jennie in Loja, Ecuador

  53. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YVONNE! I love your blog and your beautiful home and your decorating style!

Thanks for telling us more about you!

God bless you and your family!
    Connie

So happy to be part of bHome with you!!

  55. Thank you for sharing the secrets of successful blogging and your philosophy behind Stone Gable. I enjoy reading your posts and I especially appreciate your willingness to share your faith with your readers.
Your creativity, attention to detail, and the way you relate to your readers as if we were old friends makes for a comfortable and inspiring moment in my day! God bless you as you go forward!
    P. S. 61 is a great age…. I’m there too.

  56. Yvonne, I absolutely love your blog. I have found so much inspiration through your blog. You have such a beautiful style that I think anyone could follow. I hope you have a blessed birthday!

  57. Happy Birthday Yvonne. Your blog is the one I visit first everyday, and this post is really special. It is nice to see more of the personal side of the person who creates such an inspiring daily dose of beauty. Your book will definitely be one of my treasures. Oh by the way, the pictures displayed today are breath taking; simply gorgeous. Thank you for being a very special person whom I admire so much.

  58. HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!! It is all about your outlook on things… not a number. I just love your blog. I no longer subscribe to Southern Living since I found your blog…who needs it with all your wonderful ideas with such beautiful photos. Coming from a Southern Mature Lady I think you are as close to being a southern as one can get.
Hope you will have a Blessed Birthday.

  59. Many happy returns of the day, dear Jesus Gir! I love how genuine & transparent that you are to others as well as yourself. I too turned into the 60’s, a few years ago and embrace this age. It still fascinates me how much you do daily to do this wondrous blog! We appreciate all your hard work & it shows. I have two daughters with five granchildren from 4-10, which we love! Being a grandparent is the best! I eagerly await each day to learn something new to do with my home & family & friends by viewing your posts & lovely pics! I do love me some Ronda Rich, Beth Moore & Lysa TerKeurst as authors! I love to cook and do enjoy decorating my home, especially the holidays! I also was a Navy brat & travelled some. Here in the South (Alabama), I’d tell you to rest a spell & visit & we would spin tales of this & that, with some raspberry lemonade by our side & something decadent to eat too! Enjoy your special day with God, family & friends by your side! It is so nice to find friends of the heart such as you!

  60. Many Birthday wishes to you, Yvonne! I enjoy reading your blog and trying all of your yummy recipes, too. Your effort and time is definitely appreciated by this reader!

  61. Happy Birthday, Yvonne. Read your blog daily. You have inspired me in so many ways. Love the Sunday Scripture posts.
Thank you for your creative decorations, delicious recipes, and that envious potting bench.

  62. Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You and many more!!
The behind the scenes info was great . I’m going to be 57 years young at the end of this month and started college for graphic arts this past Oct. I also thought you were from the South. I am in TX . I so enjoy reading your blog and the DIY as I love to do projects, and all that you share. I feel like I can call you friend.Thank You for being you and doing what you love because your love comes through the blog, and you are Southern at heart.
    Be Blessed
    Pam

Wish I had half of your creativity, talent and energy! Bravo!

  67. Yvonne – Everyday I can’t wait to open up my Facebook to see what you are posting. I love it. Happy Birthday!

    Julie

  68. Yvonne,

First of all, Happy Birthday! Wishing you the very best for the coming year… 🙂 I must say, of all the bloggers I read, your writing style is the one I feel most conveys a vibrant personality along with your viewpoint. That’s probably why people say they feel they know you. I definitely find inspiration from your blog, not only creatively, but as a 50-something blogger, as well. Nice to know you didn’t monetize until well into your 50’s. Given that I started blogging as a creative outlet when I retired from my “real” job (fashion design), I often wonder if I shouldn’t bother trying to monetize. But at 1 year in, I’m still thinking of giving it a go. Your words make me feel there’s no reason to rush, no deadline for crossing that threshold. Thanks for the great inspiration!

    Best,
    Lory at Designthusiasm

  69. My dear, dear Friend and sister in Christ~
May your birthday be a wealth of blessings! Your ideas are classic and timeless ~ you are one classic, timeless and classy woman yourself. Thank you, sweet lady, for sharing your amazing God- given gifts with us. While we have not met in person, this scripture comes to mind each time I read your post: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23. You are one Godly woman! Happy Birthday, Yvonne!
    Affectionately, Nan

  70. Happy Birthday, Yvonne! I live in DE and have been to Lancaster more times than I can count. Just looking at the style of your farmhouse, I should have figured you were in PA! You have a lovely home and a gorgeous blog. I am older than you and recently retired and its all about your energy for life, not how old you are! I am just learning the art of painting furniture, which is so much fun. I am now on my second piece (a set of end tables for my daughter’s birthday).

  71. I think you do a wonderfully honest job about your life.Your place is gorgeous.Happy Birthday to a young lady 61 is a beautiful age.I would love to enjoy coffee with you one day Yvonne. My dear husband and I just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary at The Limestone Inn in Strasburg. We return to Lancaster every year as that is where we honeymooned.I thought about you,as we were shopping in Simply Vintage, a beautiful store. Bless you Yvonne. Dawn

    1. Happy 35th Anniversary to you and your hubby! I know the Limestone Inn and Fresh Vintage is my very favorite shop!!! I was just there yesterday. Amy the owner is A-MAZING!!!!

  72. HaPPy B’day! I’ve always loved your blog since 1st discovering it about 2-3 years ago. Always look forward to your postings. Thanks so much for answering these questions. Although I would never have asked some of them, so enjoyed your responses!! Thankful for the time you put in it, and the love you have for blogging. Explains your success!

  73. Happy Birthday! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog. I stumbled across it last year and have been a faithful reader since. You inspire me SO much and have reignited that creative side of me that I have stifled so long. I’m a pharmacist by profession and hate every minute of it. My dream is to open my own shop featuring antiques and home decor. Thank you for your honesty and unpretentiousness. Like many of your readers, I feel like we are friends and kindred spirits. I just learned today you have a book coming out. When and what kind of book? Enjoy your day and God BLess You!

  74. Happy Birthday. Being several years older, I believe life just gets better. Love your blog. I enjoy using your ideas in my home. So classic. Have a wonderful day. So happy to read your uplifting message each Sunday. Our God is an awesome God.

  75. I enjoyed this Q&A session. I am 30 and find that I relate much more to people twice my age, so I say age is nothing but a number. That’s why I love blogging so much, you get to chat with people you may have never chatted with in “real life”. Love your blog and I can certainly tell it is a ful time job because you do a fabulous job!

  76. Thanks for this more personal glimpse into your life, Yvonne. I knew blogging had to be time consuming, but I had no idea of HOW MUCH!!! But then I think your blog is just gorgeous! Thanks for all your efforts for us to have your wonderful, inspiring and beautiful blog to come to. I always thought you seemed pretty amazing, now I know even more so! Happy Birthday! Hope it is a wonderful day of celebrating you! 🙂

  77. Blessings on your Birthday Yvonne! Today is my youngest son’s Birthday too…. Wonderful things have happened on the 9th of July! I am always inspired by All that you do, and the truly beautiful way that you do things! A funny little story for you… when you said.. “Don’t get between the hammer and the nail”… well, it is a great phrase to remember … and apply when needed …as we have a relative living with us for the summer! So now, I just smile and say to myself those little words of wisdom! I also Love your Sunday messages and feel that The Holy Spirit is shining through in every one of them! With Love and Hugs, Judy

  78. Happy 61st Young Birthday Yvonne! Love your blog & look forward to it every day…it’s truly amazing!

  80. Happy Birthday Yvonne!

You give us the gift of yourself in your blog but for so many of us you have given us a deeper faith and real joy in the Lord and his gifts! Thank you for adding all of us to your heart that is so Jesus filled that it captures us in His arms. Have a wonderful day and know that your most important gift is decorating our hearts with a more sincere love of the Lord!

    Blessings!
    Fran

  81. Happy happy birthday to you, Yvonne. My son’s 39th birthday is today also. I love your blog! I follow a few and look at
many more, but yours is hands down, the best. Your designs and ideas are always the most elegant and I check out your
blog every day. Thanks so much for sharing your life and talent with us! It is also inspiring to me that you are not in the
35 to 45 category. I am a few years older than you and it is great to know that we can do fun, growing and sharing things
for a lot of years to come!

  82. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Yvonne! Your blog is the BEST! I have gotten so many ideas from your blog!! Right now I have a small arrangement on my coffee table – an old coke case with seashells in a glass jar, a small American flag and books all having to do with summer fun and a yummy candle……right out of Stone Gable blog!! Thank you so much for all your ideas and pictures! And again HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope you have a great day!

  83. I enjoyed your post and personal answers to,questions. I always wondered this…..why are you not ever photographed. I would love to have a visual…….I feel,so comfortable with your blog but only have seen one picture of you and it’s so posed……head turned to the side. I’d love to see the real you so I can relate! I rally enjoy your blog and your recipes!

  84. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YOU YOUNGSTER, YOU! I AM 65 AND NOT A GRANDMOTHERLY TYPE EITHER HA! HA! I SO ENJOY YOUR BLOG AND IT’S VERY EVIDENT THAT IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT, SO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO TO GIVE OTHERS SO MUCH ENJOYMENT. I APPRECIATE THAT YOU ARE HONEST AND COME ACROSS AS A “REAL” PERSON. YOUR HOME IS LOVELY AND SO ARE YOU!

  85. Happy birthday Yvonne! Yes, getting older is quite fun, actually! I will be 67 this September…..and so waiting to retire! I LOVE your blog, and really take it all in every day. So much to learn, such great eye-candy, and such inspriation for my Christian life. When you did your reader survey, I sent in a question about where do keep all those dishes that show up in your photography/vignettes? Wow! I am already running out of room for mine….and don’t even do near the amount of things you do on your blog. I have a blog, too, but working outside the home full time takes it toll on how much I can pay attention to it, so I have a long way to go there. Someday, I hope we can meet at Haven, since I live in Atlanta, and share some Southern Girl laughter! Have a blessed birthday full of wonderful memories!

  86. Happy Birthday to you! I enjoy your blog and like the posts you do! Love your Sunday educational ,bible posts too! I LOVE to decorate farmhouse style because, well I live in a farmhouse on my farm! Ha! In Boise ,Idaho area! So you go girl! Great job!

  87. Happy Birthday Yvonne,
The BEST part of every day is sharing it with fine folks like YOU!!
May this year bring with it all the success and happiness your heart desires. Pssst…and and HGTV contract!! *giggle 🙂
Hope your day is as wonderful as you!! ENJOY!!!
    Hugs,
    Paula 🙂

  88. Happy Birthday, Yvonne!
I am a long time reader of your fabulous and very informative blog. From recipes to table arrangements, I have learned so much from you.
    Have a wonderful birthday! From a sister-Pennsylvanian!

  89. The happiest of birthdays to you Yvonne! May you get EVERYthing you wish for today!
Meeting you at Haven the first time I assumed we were the same age and you were another of the lovely southern lady bloggers I was finally getting to meet! Maybe you were a southern belle in a former life! ; D And btw–maybe YOU should add your beauty regime to your blog postings, you are definitely doing something right–you look wAy younger than 61! You go girl!
Great post, luv the answers and getting to know you even more–Hey, I’m an Air Force brat too! It’s amazing how many of us in blog-land are!
    Catherine

  90. Happy Birthday Yvonne. . Hope you get very spoilt on your birthday and I absolutely love your blog. You are so inspiring and can’t get thru a day without seeing what you have come up with. I love that you are a real and a truly beautiful person both inside and out. I to am in my 60’s but have never been happier and I understand you saying you still feel like 30. Age is only a number, it’s all about how you feel. Thank you for all those long hours you put in, paid or otherwise. You truly care for your readers.

  91. Ohmygoodness.. I guess my own blog title gives me away [Like Gramma’s House] I am 74 and I suppose I have been a bit naive about the “age factor.”

I also feel I have a spirit that is “young at heart”-

This was a great post & I will read again!

  92. Happy Birthday!!! Oh my goodness and I turned 60 yesterday. I absolutely love your blog and always look forward to it. I tell my husband about you and how we both love decorating, gardening and Jesus! Enjoy your very special day. <3

  93. I’m a Southern woman who loves your blog! Thanks for the compliments about Southern women & decorating. Hope you have a wonderful birthday!

  94. Happy Birthday Yvonne! Always love popping in for such terrific ideas and great inspiration. I’m not far behind you in years and also started my blog in my 50’s too. Women can do wonders a any age! Have a great Summer!

  95. Happy Birthday Yvonne! Thanks for sharing your blogging experiences. I’ve been at this for sometime now, but only started linking with parties the past year. I don’t know how you do it! It’s a lot of work! God Bless You! You are quite an inspiration!

  96. Happy, happy birthday Yvonne!! Several of my friends and I follow you. When we get together, we talk about you like you’re one of our girlfriends. “Did you see how Yvonne decorated her entry”. Or, “did you see what she did with her guest room?”. It’s pretty funny. I have an email file for you that I put all your emails in to refer back to. I really love your style, and have been slowly transitioning my reds/gold/earthy colors to the light/neutral airy decor. I’ve looked at some of your blogs and noticed several pieces that you and I have alike that I hadn’t copied yet..lol.

I can’t wait for your book to come out. I know what I’m getting my girlfriends that love you as much as I do for their birthday or Christmas! Thank you for being so awesome!!

    Barbara

  97. I’ll never forget the day that I ran across your blog., Yvonne. I adore your style, along with your sweet spirit, and was hooked right off the bat. Thank you so much for all the inspiration you’ve given me. Happy Birthday to an amazing lady!

  98. Happy Birthday! I am a fellow sixty three year old and like you I don’t feel “old”. I look forward to all ur posts and can’t wait for your book. It will be a best seller!

  99. Happy Birthday Yvonne!!!!

I loved learning so much about you. I really thought you were from the south and now I even feel more connected to you knowing you live farther north. I’m also on the older side (71 yrs old) but don’t feel any older than my twenties except on the days I watch my great grandchildren (1 & 5 yrs old).

Your blog is up there with all my favorite things in life. I can’t wait to read it each day – but try to leave it till I can really enjoy it. Somewhat like saving the best part of a meal until the last bite.

Have a wonderful day and year.

  100. Happy 61st, Yvonne! Yes, I am one of your readers who feels like we could be real-life friends! I love Stone Gable and I love Lancaster, PA! I’ve only been there once to visit my sister who was living in Phoenixville, PA at the time and this California native fell in love with the whole area!

  101. Happy Birthda Yvonne! Loved reading the questions and answers. Felt like I was sitting at your table talking & listening. Thanks for sharing. We are only as old as we feel, so age is just a number! Hope your day is awesome.

  102. This is a wonderful post and I enjoyed learning more about you and Stone Gable. Your posts are always full of information and inspiration

    Cindy

  103. I love you blog and your style and of course you!! Happy Birthday!! I have been following you for a few years now and I have also been looking at getting my own home, I sold my old house about 3 years ago to help family out with money and i have been in my parents basement ever since! Everytime I go look at a house I see possibility thanks to you and I am eager to do things myself!! You are a definite blessing!!

  104. Happy Birthday Yvonne!! I love getting to know you better and thank you for sharing yourself. Please share your mess once in a while, it sure would make me feel more normal.
    I love your blog.

  105. How wonderful and interesting it was reading about you; very kind (and brave!) of you to share! I love your blog, your creativity and enthusiasm (especially your many exclamation points!!! – you must have worn #1 out on your keyboard!).
Happy Birthday to you Yvonne and may Our God continue to bless you with many more!

  106. Happy Birthday Yvonne! I too, enjoyed the personal question and answer blog post! I learned a little more about you which is always nice. Like most of the others that have left a comment–it makes you seem more real and personable. I’ve really enjoyed your beautiful and informative blog. IMHO, it’s one of the best out there! So keep up the good work and enjoy your special day!

  107. Hey, Happy Birthday – have fun celebrating today!! I am an Army brat and Air Force (retired) wife — and live in Atlanta — I too lived all around so never felt I had a home until now — was born in GA so guess that makes me Southern – ha. I somehow stumbled on your site one day and have been looking every day! I am so proud of you and love your style and what you say, pretty neat! I am a year older and like you in so many ways.

  108. Happy Birthday Yvonne;
I have to tell you I love your site. It’s the first thing I check in the morning. Also I have gotten rid of some of my old decorating ideas and implemented a lot of the vintage decors steals in my home. I was decorating last night and my husband asked me where I come up with the ideals. Just smiled and let it go at that. What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him right. Thanks for being you and being human!!

  109. Happy Birthday! There is a good chance you will be another year older by the time you read these many well wishes. You take stone, rock, soil and wood and bring it all to life. Your house really is a home to us. Your creativity and hard work is apparent. Thank you for showing us to take time to enjoy all the beauty and the goodness of the Lord. May your day be wonderful . Grab some time to relax. God Bless.

  110. Yvonne: Wishing you a Very Happy Birthday and Hope that All Your Wishes and Dreams Come True.

Love reading your blog and love your home. You have such a knack for decorating.

Enjoy your special day and hope you get to share your day with all your loved ones.

    Denise

  111. Happy birthday from a Southern girl who loves your blog! I am fairly new to blogging, and love reading yours. Even my husband enjoys your blog- he loved your garden tour a few weeks ago- I think you may have inspired him to consider raised beds next year 🙂

    Angela in Central NC 🙂

  112. Happy Birthday Yvonne. I LOVE your blog and I don’t mind the ads at all because to me they are very discreet. The blogs I don’t like are the ones where the subscription form pops up even if you already subscribe or the ones that decided to also sell things and their blogs go over and over and over what they sell. That is not what I signed up for. I have learned so many things from your blog – decorating – inside – outside – recipes etc. etc. etc. please keep up the good work. I will be 65 in September but not a grandmother unfortunately. I do have a question – how is your son doing after his surgery? I have been praying for him.

  113. Happy Birthday. I am 62 and rehab furniture so I feel age is just a number. Love your style and your daily info.

  114. Had a laugh at the question about your age. When someone asks about mine, I always add 5-10 years more…big surprize on their faces…then my reply is ” I think I look pretty good for my age, don’t you think?” You can see they are embarresed that they asked. I had one lady congradulate me on being a “couger” knowing my husband was so much younger than me. Another answer I like to give is ” I’m vertical years old”……..obviously I’m still alive and who should care how old I am. Happy Birthday and many more!

  115. I am so glad I found your blog. I have been laid up from recent back surgery, and have enjoyed reading your old posts. You have kept me company during some long nights, and I am grateful.
Your faith is an inspiration, your decorating is of the best in blog land , and though I live on the other end of the state near Erie, you feel like a good friend that lives right next door.
May you be blessed with many more happy birthdays!

  116. Happy Birthday my dear friend…..My life is definitely richer knowing you!!…..Didn’t you know that life begins at 50 and gets better with every year?…yes, you do know that !!!….Hope you have a wonderful birthday!

  117. Thanks so much for sharing with us. Your blog is such a respite in my day and I always enjoy your ideas and Sunday words of encouragement.

  118. Happy Birthday and keep up the great work you do. It brings pleasure to many and is a blessing. I am 68 and still feel young in mind and spirit and look forward to your posts. Thank you from Vieques, Puerto Rico

  119. Happy Birthday Yvonne! You are such an inspiration and I enjoy your blog so much. You are truly a blessing and I can feel the pure love and joy that comes through in your blog. I lived in the South for 30 years and I totally get your love of all things Southern, I have it as well, still have a Southern accent that I hope I never lose! So blessed to be a part of the bHome community with you and hope that someday we will get to meet in person! And I can’t wait till your book comes out! Many blessings to you!!
    Cheers,
    Cindy

  120. Loved it, especially the part about how you proved the “experts” wrong! I believe women are age are amazing!! We have learned so much, and it is such a great time in our life.
I just need to say as you talk about ads, I absolutely HATE pop up’s, and just get off blogs immediately when they pop up. Instantly leave!!! I blog as well, but you know, some things are just in poor taste.

  121. Happy Birthday Young Lady!! Your blog and your home are beautiful!

Thanks for all your hard work – it definitely shines through!

  122. We are the same age! HAPPY BIRTHDAY Yvonne! You are an amazing person and yours is the only blog I read. Besides “The Scoop” etc.. Where do you find the time and energy to do all of this!! I LOVE all of your ideas and your lovely home is to die for! The decor is lovely! Some of your new rugs are not my taste but love everything else. And that is not a put down but said in fun. LOL

  123. Happiest of Birthdays to you, Yvonne! I wish you much continued success for as long as you are inspired to blog.
Whoever said the comment about not being published unless under age 45 was totally out of touch. Women get better with age, in everything they do, I am convinced. Thankfully, confidence to persevere through and beyond ‘groupthink’ is one of those areas. You go, woman!

  124. Hi Yvonne,
I also had my 61st birthday a couple of weeks ago. It’s a very good age.

I love your great ideas and your beautiful pictures. I read lots of blogs, but yours is one of my favorite.

Thanks for all your hard work, I really enjoy it.

  125. Happy Birthday, my friend! I hope you had a great day and maybe took some time off from blogging! See you soon at Haven!!!

  126. Yvonne,
Wishing you a Happy Happy Happy Birthday…hope it’s your best ever!
Thank you for your beautiful blog!
    Blessings, Cindy

  127. Happy Birthday, Yvonne. I am so glad that you found your calling. You really are my favorite blogger.

  128. Love. Your. Blog. It is my favorite blog! Your style is classic and you are very talented. Happy birthday!

  129. Fantastic blog post today, Yvonne! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you as well 🙂 I can’t believe you run this entire blog all by yourself. Wow! You must have endless amounts of energy. I love the questions that were asked and especially your responses. Your creativity is definitely what makes you and your blog so interesting and exciting. I really like that you described yourself in the way you did as it gives us readers a sense of who you are and how you think. As an avid follower of yours, I would really like to see more posts like this one in the future. For instance, how do you develop your ideas and turn them into a blog post. Really, really, neat. Jill Jones, Sacramento, CA

  130. Happy Birthday Yvonne hope it was a great day……love your blog and your home and garden! You live in such a pretty area of the country, we have been there there several times. Love the 5 questions!

    Pam

  131. A very happy birthday to you. Your blog is the only one I read daily. Thank you for the enjoyment. We have similar style, interests, and ages.
    Susan

  132. Hi Yvonne, i hope you had a fabulous birthday. I absolutely loved this post, particularly because i’m a newbie blogger and it gave me so much inspiration. Is there any specific advice you can give a newbie. Also you talk about lots of props, what sort of things are you talking about here.

    regards
    Jane in NZ
    http://www.myimperfectparadise.com

    1. Hi Jane! Congratulations on starting a new blog! Good for you!!!! Here are my best blogging tips: stay true to yourself and don’t try to be like another blog… content is king, memorize that! Great content is #1 for successful blogging…learn something new about blogging every day… connect with your readers, you will love them!
As far as props they are flowers, fruit, pillows, dishes… anything that makes a picture more beautiful!

  133. Happy birthday, Yvonne! I so enjoyed your blog today! I have oftenwondered if you were from the South. You have a great affinity for creating and decorating in a way that just screams southern charm and hospitality! I agree with you about Savannah. I have a sister and brother who live nearby in South Carolina, and I don’t know of another place that even comes close to Savannah.

So… from another Pennsylvanian who will also turn 61 a little later this year…hope your birthday was grand, and thank you for such a wonderful place to meet and learn! Keep on bloggin!

  134. Happy Birthday! I’m just a couple years behind ya. I appreciate your honesty and openness. And the fact that you were told you’d never get in a magazine since you were out of the age group they considered a blogger/writer needed to be. Goes to show that there was narrow minded thinking even in this industry. I’m so glad you proved them wrong. Do you create your postings one at a time or do you take time/days to create a post? I can only imagine how long it takes to take all the photos and edit. Sorry if you already answered this.

  135. Happy Birthday,Yvonne,
I have been a fan from day one. I live at the shore and have gone to the old Donecker’s for years. We love Lancaster and the people. Last year I drove by your beautiful home and said,OMG that is Stone Gable. I was in awe. Continued success and God bless..

  136. Thanks for sharing. It was fun to get to know you a little better. Do you know the name of the first flower you photographed, the white and green one?

  137. I absolutely love reading your blog, Stone Gable. I get so many ideas and learn so much from reading it. Thank you for such a valuable blog. And, most of all, have a wonderful and very happy birthday!!

  138. Yvonne – Happy Birthday from snowy New Zealand. Thank you for the inspiration from your blog, wish we shared the seasons in your order, but I am inspired by you and plan ahead from season to season with you! God bless you for your words and beauty.

  139. Oh my goodness…I missed your Birthday! Happy Birthday Yvonne:D I hope you had a wonderful day that was filled with lots of fun and relaxing things for you to enjoy!!! I loved this post, and I’m glad you shared some personal things to get to know you more:) I think your a fabulous blogger, and I so totally appreciate everything that you do!

  140. Hi! I am new to your blog and must admit I was drawn in by your comment about being an ’empty nester’ and that it had taken you a while to adjust to that new status. I am in a similar position, I live in Brisbane Australia, my son and his wife are living in Panama City for a couple of years….now you can’t get many places further away from Australia than that area of the world….6 hours to LA and 15 to Brisbane plus the wait in LA! An epic journey. My other son lives in Auckland NZ which while only ‘across the ditch’ seems just as far away. I feel pleased to find someone who admits to the feelings and touched that you talk about it openly. I look forward to your stories and posts and seeing your lovely home encourages me to ‘think big’!

    1. Hi Lindsey. Welcome to the StoneGable family!!!! Empty nesting is certainly a challenge… and if is a great season too! I’ve learned to really embrace this fabulous time in my life!!!

  141. Happy Birthday Yvonne!!
I turned 50 this year and have been contemplating changing careers too. I want to be an aesthetician, but at 50 I thought it was too late for me. You have inspired me to pursue my career change. Thank You!
I love love your blog, I read it daily! So thankful I recently found you!!! Keep up the good work!

  142. Happy birthday! Your blog is an inspiration. You are like a mentor to me. I recently began blogging a few months ago. I love it and someday I would like my blog to have as much of following as yours. Thank you!
Best wishes today and all year,
    Michelle from simplysantabarbara.blogspot.com

  143. Yvonne, just adore your blog – it’s only 1 of 2 to which I subscribe. Your fresh ideas, beautiful photographs and your love of Christ, all keep me coming back for more. Thank you for blessing us by sharing your God-given talents, time and energy. Laurene in CT

  144. Happy Birthday ! You are just a few months younger than me! And you are who I would be if I could be someone else! Discovered you a couple years ago when my husband bought me an iPad for my birthday. Your blog is wonderful. Thank you for all the fun filled hours “reading” your blog and the decorating inspiration.

  145. Yvonne,
I am so excited and blessed to have found you on the web. I love your blog. Thank you for sharing a part of you, I’ve been telling all my girlfriends about you too!

    Many blessings,
    Cathy

  146. Yvonne, happy belated birthday! I am a faith blogger but also love all things HOME! My blog is called Hope Heart Home – that about sums up my life and my blog! I am older than you (yay, right?)! I go to a cousins’ reunion every October in Lancaster/Intercourse – Stonegate is on our “drive by” quest this year. 😉

I only found you about a month ago and savor every post – I drool a lot too. I’m a born NJ girls but grew up in FL (which does NOT qualify one to be a southerner) and have lived in the mountains of NW NC for the past 27 years – I now love hydrangeas, peonies, porch ferns, magnolias, hammocks, and lemonade – I’m well on my way to southern girl status. Just spent the weekend in Charleston – it now surpasses Savannah as my favorite southern city.

Keep doing what you’re doing – you and it are delightful!

  147. Love your blog. Thanks for all the effort. I am a 60 year old myself…and like you, feel better, wiser, and still hip!
