5 EASY TIPS FOR CREATING A SUMMERY KITCHEN VIGNETTE
One of the best things about summer are the flowers in my gardens. Each one is at its best at different times of the season so each bouquet I picked is a little unique masterpiece! All summer long a bouquet of flowers or herbs grace the center of my kitchen table where we can all enjoy it! I’m sharing 5 ways to create a gorgeous and easy kitchen table vignette for the summer ahead!
Today on our podcast Decorating Tips And Tricks, we are sharing 9 THINGS YOU SHOULD GET RID OF TODAY! This is a freeing episode!!!! You will hear what we are getting rid of right now!
Let’s create an oh, so pretty vignette!
Don’t just plunk a vase of flowers on the table… make it a part of a little vignette! It’s so much prettier! Put everything in a basket. Summer is the time for baskets! How pretty would this look on the center of your kitchen table?
Grab a basket and start corraling!
I bet you have more flower vases in your home than you think! Open your cabinet and take out a pretty drinking glass, wine flute, mason jar, white pitcher or mug. Many things can become a darling foil for flowers. Even a beautifully decorated can of tomatoes… emptied and washed out of course!
Our hydrangeas are having a banner year this year and they are perfect for picking! Hydrangeas are unfussy and very old fashioned to me so a fancy glass vase would not do. I found this stout pitcher to add to my collection and it was begging to be filled with these budding hydrangeas!
Using fabric in a vignette brings in an element of softness, texture, and color! Use napkins or a pretty dish towel (that’s what I did) or a length of fabric with the ends turned under. Because I like a very tight color palette I chose a blue and white dish towel to accent the vignette and create a pretty patterned bottom to the basket!
Change out the fabric as the colors of the flowers you use changes.
When you find attractive dish towels that would work with your home decor and dishes buy them and save them to use as a part of a vignette or as table runners! I keep mine in a plastic box in the kitchen to use on the kitchen table. And no, I don’t dry dishes with them!
Now is the time to pull your favorite dishes out of your cupboards and let them be part of a summery vignette! My white dishes are the real star of this vignette. Different patterned dishes with interesting edges. And don’t you love those sweet little pitchers? I collect them so I’m giving them a turn being a part of this vignette!
My favorite blue and white dishes may show up here next week! Who knows?
Adding a little candlelight makes a vignette glow warm and welcoming in the evening. I love using lanterns. This old lantern has seen better days but still looks good enough to work in this charming summer vignette.
I use a battery operated candle that looks very very real and is on a timer. No need to wonder if I blew it out!
Now you know my 5 easy steps for creating a summery kitchen vignette. Pick some flowers and begin creating!!!!

What is the circumference of the basket you used for this vignette? Thanks!
I love seeing how you combine flowers dishes and fabric to make a beautiful kitchen vignette. I have all of those things myself so now I need to get busy!
Love the basket idea – thanks for sharing.
Those hydrangeas are stunning! A great vignette!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Lots of inspiration as usual. You make everything so easy. Thanks for sharing. Have a marvelous Monday.
Thanks, Linda! You too!
I love going out to my garden and cutting flowers to bring to my home. Your vignette has given me some ideas. Thanks
Cutting flowers from my garden is one of the simple joys in my life!
So pretty. I love the Hydrangeas. Where did you get them this time of year?
Thank you for sharing.
Hi Mary, I have tons of hydrangeas growing in my gardens this year. The one’s in this post grow along my back walk.
I always look forward to your blue and white dishes. You are the best!
Give me some info on the timer for the candle, please.
Where to buy, price to expect to pay, how to you hide the timer?
Update on the ankle? The babies?
Here is a link to the candle http://amzn.to/2rTG7gK. Thanks for asking about my ankle, I’m in an air cast for another 8 weeks. When I had surgery to remove a rogue pin that was giving me trouble one of the screws broke that was holding a plate. UGH!!!
As far as babies, oh they are the joy of my life!!!! Anderson is 8 months old and such a happy little baby. Emma Kate is 2 weeks old and so petite and pretty! I am so so blessed!
Nan, thanks for asking!
Beautiful. I will keep searching for the perfect baskets like the ones you use.
Very interesting and pretty ideas. I would also like to hear more specifics about the candles. Thank you!
See the link in Nan’s comment.
I love this post! I was just thinking about what to do for a summer table-thanks for making me realize I don’t have to buy anything!
I have just about everything to create something like this. Notice I said “just about” lol. Tea towels?bandanas? hmmmm.
Bandanas would work wonderfully!
So pretty, Yvonne! You are such an inspiration. I love to take pretty dishes that were my mother’s and grandmothers and find a way to display them around my house. I have a lovely teal candy dish that I’m going to take out after my Fourth of July vignette is done. Thanks for the reminder ?
Hello, anxiously awaiting the strawberry icebox cake recipe. I want to make it for July 4th.
I tried to email you but the link indicated it was broken. Just wanted to let you know. 🙂
Will get to that this weekend! xo
Thank you…. so much 🙂
Hope you are feeling much better these days.
Love your vignette, but love the changes you made to your blog even more!
Thank you for explaining and giving pointers as how to create the perfect vignette! I struggle with this concept on my dining table and coffee table. So many times, I try, get frustrated and put it all back up, which leaves me feeling frustrated! Did you ever do the tutorial on how to make the apron holder with plates?
Saving that for a book, Melissa!
Love the vignette’s no fuss look it feels so natural, and completely effortless.
love the vignettes.

I don’t have an “eat in” kitchen, but this vignette has inspired me on what to do for my dining room table. I had just pulled apart my last arrangement and was wondering what to put in there next. This will be perfect!
So pretty! Love all the cool summer colors and the lanterns.
Baskets make everything better..dont they? And that dish towel is gorgeous! Thanks for the inspiration, friend.
Am I the only one who has been having problems with the podcasts? I listened to 4 last night with some trouble but not near as much as today. Within 10 mins of listening it shows error on page and then has to reload. I have to go back to find the one I was listening to only to find it went back to the beginning of the segment and then have to find my place again. I wish it didn’t do that as I am loving listening to you ladies talk. Feels like I’m in the room with y’all. 🙂
I’m so happy you are enjoying our DTT podcasts! We love doing them. You can go directly to the podcasts on your computer or smartphone. Look under the StoneGable header on my blog and find the word “Podcast”. It will tell you how to find us on your phone and you can listen there any time you want.
My idea ~ I’ve sewed two rather large napkins together for a runner. Great thing is ~ my daughter-in- law gave me a set of these napkins in different colors!
blue is a great addition to the farmhouse look!
Thanks for the new ideas and I never try to pile up some dishes and the put pot with flowers. For sure I will try it. Love the podcast!
Love the post, and all the ideas!!!! Im so enjoying the Podcast!!! looking forward to getting some little white pitchers and these certain white plates…..:) I have my blue and white out for the summer , the pieces bring me so much joy. I think of you very time i look them. 🙂
I just found your site and I am certainly enjoying it!! We just updated our 1964 kitchen and it is a flare of country chic I guess I could say. I love decorating my home and now you are inspiring me even more with great ideas, I am starting to dig into my cabinets and use things I haven’t in years to add to my displays. My family and friends just love it when they come in the house and think it’s a model home. I am a blue and white girl and have different pieces scattered around, makes me feel good.
Hi Angela, so glad you found us! Welcome the StoneGable family!
I love all the vignettes you post. They are so gorgeous, I post them all to my Pinterest decorating and holiday boards! My daughter Thinks I am obsessed with Stone Gable! Thank you for sharing!?
Just changed my kitchen counter vignette yesterday and brought out some pretty green and white bird plates and a green vase in which I have some branches of Mock Orange from a shrub I have outside the kitchen window. Also added a small Brown porcelain bird. Will change out the flowers as needed and will look for a pretty tea towel to use as liner basket. So much fun to put these together.
LOVE your white pitcher in this post! Looks so darling with the blue hydrangeas 🙂 Do you mind sharing where you bought the pitcher?
God bless your Spring!
Hi Julie, I found this darling pitcher at HomeGoods.
My everyday dishes are white but I have a closet full of colored dishes and a dozen different colored napkin set from back in my tea partying days. I’m pulling them out! Thanks for the tip. Have a BLESSED weekend!
I am a new follower of yours and I love waking up to read and admire all the beauty you share with us !!! I am shopping for a dinning table and chairs and I love yours!! Do yo mind Sharig where you bought it?
Hi Mary, The dining room table was from Birch Lane but I don’t think they carry it any longer. Sorry! The chairs are from Wayfair, and they are out of stock right now. They will be back in stock in March. Go here:https://rstyle.me/n/deyx9zb6by7 to get on their waiting list. These chairs are sooooo well made, comfortable and the styling is beautiful. One of my favorite things! Hope this helps.
Great summery ideas….much needed in our neck of the woods this time of year….snowing AGAIN today! Thank you, Yvonne. Happy Day!
