I think summer decorating should be easy, don’t you? Not only easy but it should look amazing too! With that in mind, I didn’t want to spend lots of time shuffling through the basement for things to create a summery vignette for the dining room buffet! So, I took the candlesticks off the dining room table, pulled a basket from the family room and began to play. Here’s how easy it is to create 10 minute beachy vignette that will last until fall…
Today on Decorating Tips And Tricks we are talking about DECORATING OUR STAIRS. We don’t always think about the impact our stairs make on our homes. Here are ideas for decorating stairs!
Listen below:
Since I don’t live at the beach I wanted to create a vignette that was beachy and a little upscale. No nets, fish etc! How about starfish and mercury glass?
I did have to go down to the basement to get 2 containers of shells, but I knew where they were. Thank heavens!
The beachy vignette works with the colors in the lamp. I was thinking about painting the basket a dusty light gray… I’m so glad I didn’t!
Here’s how easy it was to put together my 10 minute beachy decor!
I tied a length of twine around a few starfish and tied them to candles on mercury glass candlesticks. I like seeing the twine. I think it adds a layer of texture. If you don’t like seeing the twine around the starfish you can hot glue the twine to the back of the starfish but then it might take you a couple extra minutes to create this vignette.
Mercury glass is a big favorite of mine! And who knew that starfish and mercury glass worked so well together?
Because my vignette looked a little unfinished I felt the grouping needed something a little shorter to balance it out. I chose a round glass jar (that a candle once came in and I cleaned out) and coiled a rope inside it… and slipped another starfish inside.
Finally, I laid a trio of lumpy starfish in the basket. If you know the name of these stellar starfish please let me know. They are so pretty!
Done and so easy-peasy! I love this vignette for its organic and upscale look!
Now it’s your turn! I hope you use the inspiration here and create a 10 minute beachy vignette of your own! And I’d love you to email me a picture of it. I just might put it up on my facebook page! BTW if you are not following me on Facebook you can by clicking HERE.

I just might have to make a trip down to my basement to pull out my mercury glass candlesticks. Lovely vignette.
Love the mercury glass!
Pretty! You know I love coastal style done in an upscale way. Starfish are a favorite of mine. I love all the texture you have pulled into the space.

Gracious! We are sisters from different mothers! Just put my new starfish from our beach vacay on the tray with–wait for it–my mercury glass candlesticks. Think I will now swap the tray for a basket one…
Love the mercury glass/starfish beachy combo. I may recreate this for my master bath vanity when I finish painting in there. I do not live near the beach but grew up near the coast and have happy memories of weekends filled with sand, sunshine, and shell collecting. Thanks for your post!
Yvonne, I love this idea and will get right on that because I’ve never tied starfish to mercury glass – really gorgeous! I have a tip for those with pets, however. I put one of those lovely bumpy starfish on our coffee table a few years back, a little treasure I’d picked up in a second hand shop near my home. In the morning our dog greeted us with little bits of starfish all over our living room rug. The real ones smell like fish, so…. yeah.
Love the coiled rope in the glass, sometimes it’s the simplest of things that add unexpected character and interest. It all looks very nice.
Perfect!
Love the post! Excuse me while I go work on my beachy master bath!
So easy to shop around your house and invent something new.
Your vignette looks lovely.
Beachy is always summery no matter where you live! I love the vignette!
You always show us the pretties! Eye candy!! Love it!
You always come up with the best ideas. This certainly inspires me to get busy and recreate for my home. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Love the starfish!
So simple, so pretty!
Very nicely done for a quick vignette!
I love the summery feel! I am so glad you didn’t paint the basket. The color and texture is perfect in your vignette.
Thanks for the great ideas!
Your summer decorations are so elegant and thank you for all of your hard work! Please remind me where your purchased your entry way room rug, black & white . I know you told all of us once but I did not write it down and do not remember. Thanks so very much Hugs Susan
Such a pretty idea, love it!!! I love the mercury glass , I keep my out all year long also.
Love the simplicity of the beach vignette! I wanted to a beach theme this summer but I just couldn’t make it work. Thanks for the tips!
I just returned from a trip to the beach; sadly without any starfish. Or any pretty shells for that matter. A local told me the water was just too rough to bring up any shells. When the water was like it was all it washes up is trash. So, I spent my morning I planned on shelling picking up trash instead along the waterline; the craziest thing I found was an air freshener can. You could tell it had been in the water awhile; it had quite a bit of rust on it. That’s ok though. I didn’t mind it. Each day as I left the beach I’d pick any trash people had left behind that I saw and any trash I’d see on the way back to our condo.
I’m glad I saved this to read. I have oodles of shells and I’ve not gotten any out of their little suitcases I use for their storage. I’m so glad you post because it inspires me !! Long ago a friend had a boutique and my Mom picked up some pewter armetal looking shells and a beaded dish. I have those out and nothing else! I need to get with it as my Mom would say. I especially liked the rope in the clear jar!! How simple yet striking! And typing on starfish with twine!! Clever. Now if we’d feel better and get to the beach!!!
Lovely!
Simple and so pretty. Thank you for the easy ideas that even I can do.
Beautiful vignette! Love the mercury glass…
I’m just curious – why are your photos “greyed out” with a brief glimpse of the true photograph as I scroll through? It would be so helpful if your beautiful photos were in their true clarity and color because I love your ideas and themes but find it very difficult to pick up much due to the “unclear” nature of your photographs featuring your tables, etc.
Very, very noce! My best regards
