WHAT IS YOUR LIFE ALL ABOUT?

WHAT'S YOUR LIFE ALL ABOUT?

If you could summarize what you would want for your life in one sentence what would it be?
 Wow!
What a big question. Have you ever thought about condensing your life’s meaning into just a few words?

Sifting through all the day-to-day, the mundane, the internal clutter, the noise and the business of life and getting your life’s goal into such focus that you can pinpoint it’s meaning into one concise, easy to understand thought!

If you could do that, you would have a central theme around which your whole live and everything you do would turn.
Can you do that? I think it’s worth trying…

Time is such a precious commodity! It seems so sad to fritter away our days… or to strive after silly things… or to spend time on things that really don’t matter.

Believe me I know! I so wish I could get back so much of my life and have a re-do. I guess I’m pretty normal in that! How many of us have said… If only I could go back and know what I know now! Most of us are shaking our heads in agreement I’m sure!

That’s why it is important to know what we are living for.  And know what we want our life to be about.

When we are breathing our last breaths, what will we want from the years we have lived?

As a believer, I know that at my last breath, this tent… my body, will drop off of my spirit… and I will step into eternity! I will live a life so much bigger than I have now! A life with my Lord and Savior Jesus. A forever life!

But, I’m not there yet. My race is not over. You see I… we… are responsible for the life we are given here on earth. It is ours to use. We must decide HOW to use it. And really, the way we use our lives here is of eternal importance.

I made a decision when I was 33 years old to give my life… my whole life… over to Jesus. When I really understood what Jesus had done for me… how he had died in my place because of the foolish and sinful way I was living my life… the only response for me was to put my life into His nail pierced hands!

My life did a BIG U turn. I went from darkness to light. From death to life. From the family of Satan to the Family of God. I gained a Savior, a Kinsman Redeemer, a Champion, a King! I gained security… eternal security!

Is my life perfect… by no means. I still make mistakes and am sometimes full of self-motivated sin. But my life is on a journey… a path. My life has direction! When I get off my life’s path and follow rabbit trails… I’m never lost. I know how to get back on the right path and keep following it.

I have found a sentence… a verse in the Bible that my life revolves around…

This is the thought that defines my life…

WALK IN A MANNER WORTHY OF THE LORD, TO PLEASE HIM IN ALL RESPECTS, BEARING FRUIT IN EVERY GOOD WORK AND INCREASING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD. Colossians 1:10

This is my life… or at least what I am striving for. My life in one sentence! This is what my whole life is about since I have entursted Jesus with it.

I love this verse and its wonderful meaning.

What it is saying is…

WALK… live a life, walk this earthly life… it means to walk a path that has been cut out. A big circle. I like to think of it as a “circle of life”. No Lion King references, please!

WORTHY…it’s the idea of matching the values of, being like

TO PLEASE HIM IN ALL RESPECTS… is the idea of being a worker. It is the idea of being a worker that carries out and accomplishes just exactly what the boss wants so He is pleased.

BEARING FRUIT… bringing forth a crop. Making a life full of good works that please one’s boss. Having something good to show that we have done at the end of our lives. A crop of good things worth something to the boss.

INCREASING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD… This is a magnificent phrase. It carries with it the idea of not just knowing who God is or facts about Him, but having a deep and intimate and close and meaningful relationship with Him.

Oh, I want that!

What my life’s verse says is that I want to live a life that looks like Jesus. I want everything I do to be pleasing to Him. I want a life that counts. A life that is full of good deeds that glorify God! And as I walk this life, I want each step I take to be in the imprint His feet have left. I want to be in a close, intimate relationship with my Creator. I want to continually be awed and amazed by Him. To be humbled that He would even want a relationship with me. I want to know, really deep down know Him.

That’s a pretty tall order for one little life. But here it is! That is what I want out of life. That is what I consider as my life well lived!

How about you? What do you want from life? Can you narrow it down into a single, all-important thought?

I say, don’t try to lasso the moon or even reach for the stars… reach beyond them to the One who created them!

This week’s memorization verse:
WALK IN A MANNER WORTHY OF THE LORD, TO PLEASE HIM IN ALL RESPECTS, BEARING FRUIT IN EVERY GOOD WORK AND INCREASING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD. Colossians 1:10

Somewhere on my faith journey’s path, someone asked the question, “Do you have a ‘life verse’?”. At the time, I spewed one out, just to “sound” good … and life went on. And on and on….and up and down…until one day, facing an impossible circumstance, that “spewed out” verse came home to roost, took permanent residence in my soul , and has been my own, life-changing and forever life verse‼️ It is Proverbs 3:5-7. Thanks for this Holy Spirit nudge for us all to know and have our personal life verse. Be blessed, dear friend, as you Bless so many !! ?

  19. I would want my whole life to be for Jesus….the very best that I can do is like filthy rags before him but His Grace ….His precious Grace to us….justified ….what a wonderful word . Knowing that I am justified in His sight. Like I’ve never sinned at all when He has put my sins under His precious blood that He shed for all of us. Loving Him with all my heart

  20. Lori Hurd says:

    Yvonne,

I’m excited to tell you that I went to the Holy Land, and I thought of you so often while we were there! We were able to take our whole family. We have seven children, and now two daughters have husbands, and there is one grandbaby. So all twelve of us had a marvelous time. I told them about your experience, and especially regarding the Wailing Wall. And I remembered your experience of preparing to meet the Lord, and your surprise at how and where you met Him. I told my daughters that about it, in preparation for this experience. While we were on the women’s side of the wall, and our dad and brothers were on the other side, I felt such a wonderful unity with my fellow sisters there, as we all prayed for our loved ones.

Thank you for your faith and your love for the Savior. I know He has made you a happier individual since you have turned your life over to Him. Plus, I love your decor. 🙂

  21. Thank you Yvonne, for the words of wisdom today.
“…giving thanks to The Father…” who gives us His strength, endurance, patience, and joy.
May you and all your readers share in that precious joy today and always…..Patty ✝️

  22. I agree.

One question that I am struggling with: how to balance being content and wanting to change decor up here and there???

Is this want to decorate and change things a gift of creativity or am I not being content in all things?

I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter.

    1. Tasha, I struggle with the same questions you have!
Since these things are not eternal how much time should we spend on them.
I know our creativity is a gift from God but I always struggle with the way
I should use it. Yvonne, you thoughts on this would be very much appreciated.

    2. Tasha, I to struggled with my love to decorate our home so much that I gave these thoughts to Our Lord, Jesus. Then one day while
Reading decorating books, and magazines my eyes came upon the title of one magazine Interior Decorating. I felt that God was telling me that was really what I wanted . My thirst for His Love was and care would be forefilled, with His Word….That as long as I had the right balance now, He had my attention now and my love for Him grow stronger as I increased my knowledge of Our Lord, King of King, and Lord of Lords through reading His Word. My desire to decorate was in check now, My spirit was being fed and I could use my creative flow whenever I needed to.
I was attracted to Yvonne blog because it was the perfect fit for my Love For Jesus, and decorating too. I so enjoy being inspired by
God’s Word. I had all ready given my heart to Jesus many years before, but now my thirst was being satisfied. Thank you Lord!

  23. Great Verse and Great Post!!!! Happy Birthday to You!!!

  24. No other words needed.

  25. Col 1:10 I work towards that too!

  26. Praise God for people like you who are not fearful of sharing from the heart or scriptures. We are living in global unrest and your questions (soulful) are appropriate and critical. You reached for the creator of all things Yvonne…He now holds your hand!
    Thank you.

  27. Jan Cochran says:

I also try to live a godly life by staying in the scriptures daily and focusing more on God and less on ME!
But I too struggle with ” how much is enough” when it comes to THINGS. I so want to be like Paul and learn to be content in every situation , but how do you balance that with the gift of creativity.
The lord himself was creative in Genesis 1.
    Thanks for your blog.

  28. Linda Godwin says:

Thank you Yvonne for your powerful words today.

  29. Sharon Phillips says:

Love your blog in all ways, but, most of all you put Jesus first! Thank you.

  30. Amen, Amen Yvonne, my motto ..to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with thy God!

I struggle also w/ balance of creativity, but knowing it is a gift from Him I think of what God said after He created the earth “it is good”
and He gave us the seasons, colorful flowers n birds , flavorful food, & rest. and when I get lazy I remember the verse if you don’t plant in the cold there will be no harvest. But be a Mary instead of Martha, Keep Christ first live within your means, I like to do what Yvonne does, don’t bury your gift, Have lots of guests, keep it child proof and invite the poor in and share your blessings, & be humble, and make people feel cozy.

  31. I can’t say it any better than that…..your verse is one of my all time favorites!! It became my verse for this year!

  32. Donna Oates says:

I love listening to you on your podcasts.
I can hear your kindness and sense of humour in the way you interact with the other designers.
    Thanks for your inspiration.
    Donna

  33. Is it ok I “steal” your verse for me purpose?

  34. Thank you for your insight and wisdom overflowing with purpose and meaning. A great reminder in such a times as these.

  35. Julie Briones says:

Great post, Yvonne. One year, our church’s women’s retreat focused on what heritage we would leave behind. This post reminded me of that. I so want others, especially my children and their children and so on, to remember me as a woman who loved the Lord, and wanted to bring glory to Him.

  36. Kathy bruns says:

Mine is–Do Gods will in the moment.
I’m to weak to do anything big. Your words were very inspiring today. Thank you.

  37. I do love this verse. I feel like my dear Dad as he grew forgetful. He had post it notes with scribbles of notes all over. I have short term memory loss from an injury and I forget so much. I want to remember to memorize this!! And share it with others. My heart leaped within me as I read this for it could have been my words.
I love Jesus. Live my life now. And live for Him.
