I must admit… I’m not much of a yard sale, junk sale kind of girl. I really appreciate all you gals that can go to a yard sale and find something fabulous! Maybe it’s because I have so much of my own junk I just can’t bring myself to lug home someone else’s! But I am creative and love to think of new uses for old things! So I agreed to participate with some fun, outrageous bloggers to get a box of off cast items and to upscale them into something wonderful! I must have been insane! Look what I got…
Two dented, outdated, silver candlesticks… a large spool with burgundy thread on it and some wooden, children’s blocks! What, oh what was I going to do with them! They did make great conversation as I passed the box around the table at a family dinner night. We certainly got a good laugh at everyone’s suggestions, but they were not that helpful!
I’m part of a crazy, fun group of bloggers for an insane junk swap. We call it SWAP IT LIKE IT’S HOT! A big thanks to Charlotte from CIBURBANITY for putting this really fun group together!
The box of wacky furbelows ( a showy, gaudy, ornament- I love that word) came from Emily at TWO PURPLE COUCHES! Good grief!! Was I really going to pull this swap off?
After I thought about the contents of the box awhile I DID come up with an idea for them that I can really use! Actually, I like the end product… very much!
So, here’s what I came up with…
Pedestals! I am always looking for interesting ways to get decor up off the table!
Here’s what I used to make these fun sorta industrial looking pedestals:
- 2 old beat us candlesticks
- 2 partially used cans of spraypaint- One Black for the base coat and one Hammered Dark Bronze
- 2 discarded mini tart pans
And here’s how I made them:
TA-DA! So easy! And here’s the funny thing… I can think of so many ways to use these fun pedestals! Just wait until Christmas!
The spool in the box was a no-brainer! Yes, I made it a pedestal too!
Here’s what I used to make the pedestal:
- 1 large vintage looking spool
- Black spray paint
- Black and white checked ribbon
Here’s what I did:
Nothing earth shattering. No rocket science. Just an easy way to make fun little pedestals! And I love fun little pedestals!
Here where I put my spool pedestal! So cute!!!
Even the most unlikely things can be upscaled and used for something wonderful! I bet you have a pair of old candlesticks laying around somewhere!
You might be asking, “What about the blocks?” I donated them to my local Goodwill!
