There will be two sessions one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Come visit with me and get lots of ideas, tips and inspiration for your holiday tables!

November is the time to trade out our pumpkins for more transitional designs. I’m bringing in warmer, more nubby and organic elements.  This vignette will work until Thanksgiving and can easily be added and edited to become beautiful Christmas decor. My pumpkins go outdoors and fill in the areas of spent mums in my urns and pots. In place of pumpkins I added pinecone and boxwood and lots of  burlap.

One of my very favorite places to create a vignette is in my living room! My Cudahy Packing Box has become a fixture on the coffee table.

Here is the fall vignette…

Using some of the same elements and adding just a couple other the fall vignette becomes a transitional one!

The most obvious change was removing the pumpkin and adding an urn of pinecones. Pinecones are warm and textural and work great this time of year!

Raising the urn up on a couple of burlap covered books give the pinecones a little more importance.

It will be easy to add some pretty sprigs of greens to the pinecones at Christmastime.

Out went the rope wrapped glass hurricanes and they were replaced with a little bit of bling! I chose 2 chunky silver candlesticks and creamy candles.

I kept the corks and the block letters. I think they add so so much texture!

I added a boxwood ball in white pottery behind the corks. Boxwood is an “anytime plant” not just for Christmas. I love love love burlap covered books!

  1. Hello, Yvonne! I am feeling excited that you are going to be presenting at a workshop next week. I would love to attend but alas it is too far for me to travel with a commitment in northern PA at dinner time. Do you have any other workshops scheduled closer to the Lancaster or even Harrisburg area? I certainly hope your answer will be yes! Looking forward to your reply.

    Blessings on your day!
    Nan Wilcox

  5. Just lovely.
Do you remember where you got the silver candle sticks?

  6. It looks perfect, Yvonne. Love the pumpkin and the berries add such a pretty touch of fall…happy weekend!

  7. Perfect timing on this great idea! I was just thinking about Thanksgiving decor. I’m tired of my current fall display but I don’t want to do full blown Christmas for Thanksgiving holiday either. I bet I’ve got some good transition items in my stash. Thanks Yvonne!

  8. Where did you get the typewriter fabric? Love it.

I live in Indiana but would love to come meet you. God bless.

    1. I was able to purchase this burlap from Walmart.com. It comes in 1 1/2 yard pieces.

I giggle for I was a rebel and did a turquoise, red and black theme with using a fall writing on a chalkboard and some galvanized steel things along with a pitcher filled with stuff from the yard. I just put up a theme of same turquoise yet my gold made in Italy plates I’m seeing all over with just a bit of less pumpkin except my old wooden bowl filled with little pumpkins. On a stand I just love the touch of pumpkins yet!! The Thanksgiving plate. But I do think I may just have to cover a few books with burlap. It is simply fun as I redo my coffee table with maybe boxing up the sunflower holding willow doll on my turquoise doll. Gathering a few more bouquets of roses and zinnias. And get out clear glass too. I love the bowl of pine ones. But I do love that pumpkin yet!!! But I’ll bet he does fill in the outdoor look very well!!
Such an eye for staying true to you yet changing it all for the in between.

    Hi Yvonne,
I wish I lived in your area so I could attend your Pottery Barn event….that sounds like fun! Thanks for the tips on transitioning from a fall vignette to one for Thanksgiving. Can’t wait to see how you change it for Christmas. I like tutorials like this and hope you will consider doing more like this.
    Have a wonderful weekend,
    Lanita

The vignette is lovely 🙂 I have a very similar grouping. However, I don’t see how this is a transitional vignette. The only thing seasonally transitional are the pinecones. To me, this is a beautiful grouping, one I would be proud to display anywhere in my home, but would not at all label it transitional, as in fall to winter decor. Mercury glass, corks, burlap, boxwood and books are everyday decor elements. It’s not as simple as just adding one element to an everyday grouping and calling it transitional. But I do love it.

  13. Love your post ,so wish l was in PA. Would not want to miss this chance to support you by being there. Just know I will be there with you in spirt. This sounds like it will be so much fun.
    Be blessed

  14. Yvonne – We really do wish we could be with you today! So excited for you, but even more excited for all of the lovely people that get to experience you and your fabulous style in person!

  16. Yvonne,
    Great transitional vignette, dear friend!!!
Even though we’re hosting Thanksgiving, I don’t do anything “special” with that decor.
Attending several Christmas Open Houses this week as I prepare my heart and mind for Christmas!!!
    Fondly,
