MOCKINGBIRD LESSONS

Almost every morning just before daybreak, I am awakened by the sound of a Mockingbird singing his little heart out near my bedroom windows.   He sits on our scrubby Mapel tree and shouts his song. There was a big lesson in his funny little song!

My mockingbird’s song is my alarm clock. Sadly, his song is not even that pretty! There is no obvious melody, just strings of squawks, calls, and shrill whistles. But he doesn’t seem to care at all! He just belts out his own song with everything his dear little soul has.

Believe me, his wake-up call is not the most gentle way to wake up. Some mornings, it’s comical because it is so bad! But some mornings, it’s very, very annoying!

Not long ago a fragment of scripture popped into my head. Something about the trees of the field clapping their hands. What a great word picture!

Can you see the wind blowing through the trees making them “clap”?

FOR YE SHALL GO OUT WITH JOY, AND BE LEAD FORTH WITH PEACE: THE MOUNTAINS AND THE HILLS SHALL BREAK FORTH BEFORE YOU WITH SINGING, AND THE TREES OF THE FIELDS SHALL CLAP THEIR HANDS. Isaiah 55:12

Although this verse is taken out of context I love to think all the earth is singing a song of great worship to the LORD in their own way!
The trees clapping their hands and yes, even my mockingbird friend singing his rag-tag song!

SING TO THE LORD ALL THE EARTH   SING TO THE LORD, BLESS HIS NAME;   PROCLAIM GOOD TIDINGS OF HIS SALVATION FROM DAY TO DAY… LET THE HEAVEN’S BE GLAD AND THE EARTH REJOICE   LET THE SEAS ROAR AND ALL IT CONTAINS   LET THE FIELDS EXULT AND ALL THAT IS IN IT   THEN ALL OF THE TREES OF THE FOREST WILL SHOUT FOR JOY   BEFORE THE LORD, FOR HE IS COMING   Psalm 96:1,2, 11-13

All the earth in its own way knows and gives glory to the Lord! Nature knows its Creator and in a great and wonderful act of corporate worship does exactly what it is created to do, it shows who HE is.

We can see God and who He is through His creation!

Now that is a great act of worship, indeed!

Even my noisy little mockingbird is singing with all that is within him and doing his little birdie things just like God created him to do. And it pleases and is a great worship to the Author of the Universe! The mocking bird sings each morning for only God to hear!

Nature cannot wait for the  Lord to come back. All creation knows the mess this world is in and waits with immense anticipation for Jesus’ return.

But here is a startling thing… God’s most prized creation does not necessarily feel that way!

Unlike the rest of creation, it praises itself and acts independently of its wonderful Creator.  Its songs and deeds are self-driven and much of it is an abomination to the Lord!

We were made to have the most intimate relationship with the very GOD OF ALL! Our being and living was created to be a great praise to the Lord just like the rest of the created world.

This morning I got up and took a lesson from my little birdie friend. I started my day with my own song to the Lord.

THIS IS THE DAY THE LORD HAS MADE, LET US REJOICE AND BE GLAD Psalm: 118:24

Let’s all join creation and praise our Maker and worship Him!!! Let’s live IN HIM the way we were created to be!

  1. This post made me happy! While I don’t have birds outside my windows waking me to a new day, I have a God that loves me. He love me! He is the one that I can praise and worship each and every morning, just like the mockingbirds. Thank you for sharing!

Just a thank you for sharing your thoughts this morning!! What a beautifully written reminder for us to praise our wonderful, matchless Creator, the maker of heaven and earth.

    Amen, Sister, preach on!

We are our independent little selves, not understanding how much we need our risen Savior every moment of every day. Thanks for the reminder that in this glorious spring in which we see all of creation blooming and springing up to praise their Creator, that we should worship Him as our Creator and Keeper, too!

  4. Wonderful! Just like the little bird, we were made for a purpose and we need to ‘sing our song’ in service and praise to God. All that we do for Him is truly music to His ears.
