SUMMER IN THE GUEST ROOM

SUMMER BLUE AND WHITE GUEST BEDROOM-Easy changes to bring a summery look to a guest bedroom

Summer at StoneGable means lots of company. The guest rooms here are often full and it’s important that they are fresh and ready for each guest. This summer I am in such a blue and white mood! I love how crisp and clean and fresh the color combination looks! So, I’m adding a little more blue and white to my summer guest room. Just a few changes make such a big difference! Come on in and if you packed an overnight bag stay awhile!

The biggest change I made in this guest room was to add a pair of blue and white curtains. I love their pretty motif!

These curtains are a soft cotton/linen blend. Perfect for summer!

I took down a pair of gray geometric curtains. The new blue and white pair make the room look brighter and let light gently filter in.

Most of our rooms, here at StoneGable have rattan shades. The shades add a layered look to the windows and work with every curtain and room in our home!

I also took off the down duvet. Duvets are wonderful in the winter, but can be a bit heavy in the summer! I replaced the duvet with a thinner quilt with blue squares!

Keeping it at the bottom of the bed instead of the closet makes it easy to reach for if my guests get a little chilly… and it makes a pretty bed!

All the beds at StoneGable have white quilts and shams on them. They are so easy to clean and work with any decor! It’s sorta a signature StoneGable look!

I’m keeping the pillows simple this summer. I love love love these reversible blue and white square pillows. And for the summer I paired them with these fun starfish pillows!

Another summery touch… flowers from my garden. The daisies are in full bloom right now as well as yarrow.  StoneGable guest always comment about the flowers in their rooms!

The dresser in this guest room belonged to my son Christopher and he used it until he graduated from college. I painted it gray and white, added new glass pulls and gave it a new life! The blue shelf above the dresser came from a home that was 150 years old. I just love how it is chippy and authentic!

The small vintage mirror has hooks for some soft comfy robes.

Did you notice the wire basket lined with burlap? Pillows from the bed go in there! I keep a basket in every room for pillows so they don’t get tossed on the floor.

Yes Yvonne, lots of blue and white here. Blue is my favorite color so it appears in every room somewhere. For me, it is the most calming color, like the sky and ocean. Guess it would make sense that my accents are coastal.

  15. Very nice room, Yvonne!

I’ve always adored blue and white and had two guest rooms done in the same colors. One room was a bit larger and I was lucky to find a folding luggage rack that fit perfectly in the room. I also bought mini sample sizes of shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, etc plus new toothbrushes and stored those in a dresser drawer in each room. Since we lived (at that time) in a very tourist-y area of Ontario, I included road maps, “sights to see” info, etc. for guests to plan their visit.

Your quilt reminded me of a quilt I once made out of my childrens’ outgrown jeans – friends would also donate to my stash as well – sure brought back memories.

  16. So Pretty! And I’m not a “Blue” person. Great job.

  17. Wendy Howell says:

Your room and flowers are lovrly!

  21. Love the room. Where did you get the blue and white pillows on the bed?

    1. Hi Rose! The pillows were from a company that does not carry them anymore. Did you see the “similar” ones I have a link for on the post?

    2. I bought these pillows a couple of months back. They are called Jill Check from Heritage Lace. Still available. Hope this helps!

  22. Yvonne – your guest room is just charming. I would love to stay there for days on end!

Can you believe it is July 4th weekend already? Where does the time go????

I posted some truly happy news today on my blog. : – ) ♥♥♥

Enjoy a safe and happy weekend. Hugs.

Can I rent your Guest Room for a long week-end stay?
Seriously though, it is so cozy & relaxing I want to stroll through your garden & curl up with a cup of tea & a book in the guest room.
I live in SW FL on the Gulf Coast. I wish I could grow the flowers you enjoy all summer, but it’s too darn hot. Our winter is comparable to your spring so that’s when my window box flourishes.
My blue and white combo’s are mostly transferware bowls filled with shells & big pieces of white coral displayed on my dining room buffet flanked by b&w platters. A very different look, but the love is just the same.

  24. Carole kozak says:

Yvonne , I have never met you. This is just how I thought you would be to your guest however . I have read about your guest rooms this month. They are so thoughtfully designed for your guest. I know your friends must love coming for a wonderful visit and then waking up to homemade preserves it must feel like a fun bed and breakfast. I love your hospitality

  25. I’m in the process of redoing our kitchen and chose a blue countertop and white cast iron sink. Along with the white appliances and subway tile they make my dark cabinets look great again. Love the crisp clean look.

    1. This sounds so gorgeous! Right up my alley!!!! Yes, crisp and clean! LOVE IT!

  26. Melinda Brakensiek says:

My mom is currently redoing one of her guest bedrooms in blue and white. I’m going to have her take a look at your site. So many great ideas!

  27. Sandra Walker says:

Our bedroom and bath is nlue and white

  28. My sun porch has a cottage vibe. My inspiration piece is Norman Rockwell’s “Spring Flowers, Basket Chair Farmhouse” which I found at a local thrift store. I have white wicker furniture around a table as well as an old white desk that I picked up at a yard sale long ago. This is also the spot where I store my sewing machines and sewing supplies (I sew at the desk). I covered my worn cushions with vintage floral pillowcases, which I can easily remove to launder. I collected some blue and white porcelain items through the years: a tea pot, cream and sugar and misc. bowls. I store my sewing scissors, seam rippers, etc. in these. There are other pastel colors in the room. It is a very pleasant spot to sit and read, have a meal or snack, watch the traffic go by, and just relax with my family.

  29. Restful and not fussy. Your guests are lucky folks!

  30. Cheryll H. says:

Blue and White have been my signature colors since I chose my melmac dinnerware before getting married in 1970. I continue to love blue and white, long after the melmac dinnerware was gone. I have been gifted a lot of blue and white china and porcelain-so my accents are with many of those pieces. I never tire of the blue and white. Love the cozy guest room.

  31. Jean Dabbs says:

Our guest room is in blue and white too. I have a crossed stitch quilt that was made by my aunt. Her daughter ( my cousin) used it in her guest room and I always loved it. My cousin had a stroke and had to move into a nursing home. I asked her son if his family didn’t want it, I would like to buy it. He must’ve forgotten ‘cause it was in the estate sale. I paid $30 for it. I would’ve paid $100 to my cousin. It is so pretty. Love, love it.

  32. Thumbs up to your beautiful blue and white. It certainly says fresh and crisp. Have been adding touches of chinoiserie, here and there, to our neutral palette. Chinoiserie bowls hold lemons and another with green apples; blue and white plates, with carpet balls; blue with cream pillows on a cream sofa. Also found a cream wool carpet, with varying shades of blue, at Home Goods. It is also a classic look, reflected in your welcoming home. The votes are in…a b and b is in your future.

  33. Dianne Miley says:

Aha! There’s the blue and white guest room I wanted to see! Beautiful! I would definitely keep it blue and white all year!
