I have a hard time passing up almost any old crate! I think they are a wonderful and trendy way to store almost anything that fits into them! And when a utilitarian piece, like a crate, becomes decor… better yet! Today I’m showing you how I took an old 7 Up crate and made it a stylish place to keep my everyday napkins and flatware! Storage is probably at a premium at your home, as it is at StoneGable too. Who says we cannot stash things away and do it beautifully in plain sight! Here are a few ideas for storing household things in crates! Let’s store things… FARMHOUSE STYLE!
Today is the last Friday of the month so that means… FARMHOUSE FRIDAY! This month we are talking about STORAGE… FARMHOUSE STYLE! Make sure you check out all the great storage ideas from the Farmhouse Girls!
I’m all about using crates or baskets to corral and store household items. Especially if the container has great farmhouse charm!
We love using cloth napkins at dinner time. And I found myself going back and forth to the living room curlacue chest to grab and put away the napkins until it dawned on me that there must be a better way!
I needed to find a place in my kitchen to keep our “everyday” napkins but my space in the kitchen is pretty much maxed out! That’s when I got the idea to put the napkins we use most in an old 7 Up crate I had. Easy access… right next to the kitchen table!
I also tucked a set of fun white handled flatware into the crate that we use often and a faux boxwood plant for a little fluff! Gotta have fluff! I love the idea of things being stored in easy accessible places that become part of the decor! It’s the farmhouse style way!!!
Storing things in the open also is a great motivation for keeping them tidy and neat! Because these are everyday napkins I don’t iron them (thank goodness). So it’s important that they come out of the dryer, get hand pressed and neatly folded. I think putting them all together in this box also helps them press themselves!
If you have followed StoneGable for any time you might know that I love neutrals and black and white. So this color combo makes my heart sing! I can grab any napkin, even mix and match them and set a pretty and simple table! Keeping them black and white makes it easy to launder too!
I think it is also very important to “edit” things stored in plain sight. So much more important than those things stored behind closed doors! So every month go thought your things stored in crates or baskets. Reorganize and clean the inside and outside of the container. Remember my mantra…. BE RUTHLESS!
Know what you have in boxes and basket. Make them functional and pretty. And made them part of your fabulous decor! And remember…
