Totally agree with you about Halloween. We have enough gore in our lives without adding it to a fun kid centered celebration. I love to put out some of the decorations I have that speak of Autumn and Halloween but are to early for Thanksgiving

  2. Nice post. I really like the pumpkin candle holders and the halloween Oreos :-).

  3. Love the ideas….could not agree more. Over the summer we had several new families that moved in to our neighborhood with little ones. I cannot wait to answer the door…that is my favorite part of Halloween.

Of course there is my most favorite tradition of making homemade caramels for the Meals on Wheels drivers that I work with. A yearly tradition and they love it as much as I enjoy making them for them:)

  4. Can you tell us how to make that cute little embellishment you have on your Halloween napkin? Is it a pin or a napkin holder? Adorable! I would like to make one and put it on my coat! lol

I absolutely adore these ideas! I’ll confess, I have a LOT of Halloween decorations, but nothing is scary or gory. I have collected items that are actually vintage replicas, most of them are made by artist Bethany Lowe. I love the paper mache things that look antique! They’re my favorite. Halloween should be cheerful and fun! I loved Halloween as a child, and I loved picking out my costume. I remember when they came in a box, and trick-or-treating was such fun! I get a kick out of the kids that come to my door on All Hallow’s Eve, and people compliment my porch and my decor, which makes me feel good! Make it fun for the kids, that’s what it’s all about so they’ll have good memories like I do.

I love your Halloween ideas, Yvonne – thanks for sharing! I adore the “polka dot pumpkin” and can’t wait to make the Oreo cookies!
    Have a great week,

  7. I thought I was the only one that didn’t like Halloween decorations, for the most part. We were vendors at a show here in Texas this weekend…and I, no, you would not believe the Halloween things that flew by…..lots ‘n lots ‘n lots. It is the Scarecrow Festival, and big! lots of scary and ugly things! lots of $$ in that. I love yours…and aren’t just for Halloween….

  8. I don’t like the goriness of Halloween either. And just the other day my seven-year-old son said he wished Halloween wasn’t so scary and could just be fun.
We are going to make your Oreos this week. Thank you for the great ideas!

  9. It seems that most of the comments here agree with you…..as well as me. I am not a big Halloween decorator. I keep fall going up to Thanksgiving. On Halloween night,a neighbor and I sit out front by my fire pit and give out candy to the Trick-or-Treaters, and I have a small Annalee doll trio of witches that I sit out in my house, but nothing more than that. I am glad to know that I am not the only one who doesn’t do too much Halloween decor! Like Clare stated above….sure wish I knew how to make those napkin rings….adorable!

  10. Love your sweet ideas for Halloween. I have several old time decorations with mostly dear children having fun. Nothing is scary nor gory.

  11. NOT scary is a good thing. :c)

  12. I could not agree with you more. Not into the dark side of Halloween either. I thought I was the only one who thought like that. So glad to see that I’m not the only one who thinks that ?. Love the pumpkin and the cookie sound great, the napkin ring is very cute .

  13. I’m right there with you and the other posters. I enjoy Halloween as far as carving a cute pumpkin, caramel apples and trick or treating. Nothing scary or gory and never allowed my kids to wear those types of costumes when they were younger. Mostly my decorating is more generic fall themed that can carry into Thanksgiving. What I find sad is around here you’ll hear people talking for months ahead of time about Halloween and bring the decor out months in advance but yet complain about the Christmas music starting so early (the day after Thanksgiving). Something just seems messed up with that.

I can’t wait to show friendliness to the little ones in my new neighborhood. It can be fun, not evil or gorey. None of that! Just fun. And lots to eat.

  15. I’m with you Yvonne! I much prefer glowing beauty such as the polka dot pumpkin you showed us and beautiful colors of the season! It speaks to me of a festive fall celebration!
