Let’s get started and make a custom made computer case!

Instructions 1 to 3-stonegableblog.com

1. Materials:

  •  leather looking vinyl. You will have to measure your computer to determine the amount you need to buy. I got 1 yard  so I had enough to play with
  •  leather cording. Be careful of the thickness. The first spool I got was to heavy and thick for the project. Chose one that is pliable and will lace nicely
  • magnetic purse closures…  I got mine a JoAnne Fabrics
  • hole punch… I purchased a heavy duty hole punch that could easily go through leather.
  • iron transferable letters
  • hot glue

2. Measure the length and the width of the computer and add 1 inch. This will give you the measurement to cut your width. My Mac Book is 13 inches long and 1/2 inch wide. So I cut my vinyl 14 1/2 inches wide.

3. To measure the length you are going to wrap the fabric around the computer so that the front part of the fabric just cover the front of the computer and the back wraps around the back of the computer and up over the front with a 6 inch flap.  Cut.

4. Draw a line 1/2 inch from the edges along the entire length of both sides of the vinyl. Measure and punch a hole every 1 inch. Make sure both sides are exactly equal.

5. Put the computer on the vinyl and fold over the vinyl so the front covers the computer making a case (like you did when you were measuring the length of the vinyl). Remove the computer and lace up the two sides as far as they are doubled, making them into a pocket.  Tie off the ends of the leather lacing in a knot inside the computer sleeve.

Use a second and third length of leather cording to lace up each side of the single layer of the vinyl. Start on the inside of the last double laced up hole. Tie a knot to the inside of vinyl and continue to lace up. Tie the end with a knot to the inside of the vinyl flap.

6. To make the stylized flower on the front of the case, cut out 4 freehand circles/ovals one a little smaller than the next. Punch a hole in the center of each round. Tie a knot in a length of leather cording. Run the cording through the smallest circle to the largest. The knot should be sitting on top of the smallest circle. Hot glue the cording to the back of the largest circle to secure it.

7. Judge where you want the clasp on your computer case, center it and follow directions to attach it to the flap of the computer.

8. Hot glue the flower on top of the clasp.

9. Decide where you want your monogram and adhere it according to package directions. * Important, make sure to put a cloth over the vinyl and letters when pressing. Also make sure to practice with a small square of the vinyl and a letter you are not going to use.

That’s it!
