So, today I’m combining my love for apples and easy to do decor and showing you how to make a green apple centerpiece that only takes 10 (okay… maybe 15) minutes to create!

GREEN APPLE CENTERPIECE- easy to create centerpiece-stonegableblog.com

I created this centerpiece at my daughter’s home on Capital Hill in DC and her home is NOT a farmhouse… so this centerpiece may have a more “urban” appeal (get the pun). If you want to make it more “farmhousey” line the apples on an old cutting board or put them in a flat basket.

This centerpiece could not be easier to do! You will need:

  • apples that are about the same size
  • votive candles
  • pen
  • a small sharp knife
  • mellon baller
  • vegetable oil
  • something to put the apples on or in
  • embellishments

Put a votive candle on top of the apple and trace around it with a pen. Cut a hole out of the apple using the pen markings as a guide and dig out the center with a mellon baller. So easy! Just don’t get overly zealous cutting. A little bit at a time. When the hole is cut out oil the inside of the hole with a little vegetable oil to keep the apple from getting brown.

Put the votive in the hole in the apple. Put the apples on something pretty and embellish with leaves or tiny pinecones. Be creative… but don’t over do it!

Beautiful!!! And so so easy and fast to make!!!

  2. I love this Yvonne! What a great and easy way to add an organic decorating element!

  3. You absolutely can’t beat a pretty bunch of green apples. And they’re pretty good to munch on too. What a cute idea and can be used and incorporated in so many ways. Hope you enjoyed your visit to see your daughter in DC.

  4. I just found a lovely antique bread bowl at a small antique shop in the middle of nowhere–I know what I’m filling it with for it’s debut on my fall table now!
Thank you for the elegantly simple idea!

  5. So pretty!
I look forward to all your fall decor!

  6. Very pretty Yvonne, the green is a beautiful color too. My hubby love Granny Smith apples, in that tart green shade.

  7. I was actually thinking of using apples for my September table! I would love to see a picture of the complete table and see what else was added. I have a very long table, so I would need additional pieces, I think. Very cute idea!

  8. What an amazing idea – love the look, and think I could even do this…thanks for the tutorial! Happy weekend, Yvonee!

  9. Those are adorable! And when your done using them, the birds outside will have a feast:)

  10. Very pretty centerpiece and very affordable to do. I like that 🙂 Just a heads up that since you changed your header your site appears wonky to me. I can only see about half your header and then a long unreadable string of words. I have tried doing the hard restart as you have described but it doesn’t change anything.

    1. Kathleen, you need to “hard reset” your computer. Go to StoneGable and press down and hold the command/control key + shift key + letter r. Do this and hold them down together on your keyboard and the header will straighten out.

  11. Such a cute idea!! Too cute,
    Have a Blessed day!

  12. Love this as a centerpiece. Still so hot here I am enjoying all the looks of fall. Thank you.

  13. Another question: What color napkins/place setting did you use with this table setting?

  14. Great idea, I have used apples to decorate but
never thought to add candles. Love it.

  15. I love this idea!!! I’ll have to try it in my chicken feeder that i use on my dining room table♥

    Have a lovely weekend.

    xoxo
    Kathleen

  16. Love your centerpiece, Yvonne! I did something similar several years ago with red apples, one per guest as a kind of favor, but I LOVE them down the center of the table. I’m pinning and posting on facebook–

  17. Yvonne,
“You light up my life”, dear friend!!!
    This is an amazing idea for a r o m a n t i c centerpiece!!!
