The garden at StoneGable is riotous! Lots of veggies have been picked and frozen and other “put up” in mason jars! And there’s plenty more to be picked! Eating garden to table is one of the simplest pleasures of the summer! The flavors are the freshest and the colors peak-beautiful!!! You don’t need a garden in your backyard to serve and eat like you do! There is plenty of farm bounty this time of year in local markets and farm stands… and so many delicious recipes to highlight summer’s best. Here are my 10 favorite garden to table summer recipes and some pictures from my garden! This is your mini summer cookbook!
Today I’m part of FARMHOUSE FRIDAY and this month we are highlighting all the goodness of the garden! Please check out great posts from the farmhouse girls at the end of this post!
Our cherry tree had a bumper crop last year. So heavily laden cherries, each branch was bent almost to the ground. This year we had a meagerly crop. Thank goodness I froze 42 quarts.
CHERRY PIES IN JARS WITH STARS is a fun, fun, fun and mouthwatering recipe and a great way to start off this garden to table round-up!
Tomatoes are a staple at StoneGable. Bobby’s favorite tomatoes are the big, beefy kind and I like the yellow pear tomatoes! But those beefsteak tomatoes are not the only kind we grow here.. actually we grow 7 varieties! All filled with flavor and beautiful color!
CAPRESE TOWERS are one of our very favorite ways to eat tomatoes. With fresh mozzarella cheese, a dose of good olive oil and fresh basil. YUMMY!
The best spot for growing herbs is right outside my back door in my kitchen herb garden! Picking and using the herbs keeps them healthy and growing like weeds!
CHIMICHURRI SAUCE is the most flavorful, fresh and garlicky sauce for all meats and fish! Just whip it up in the blender or food processor and you have a sauce that’s too goods to describe with words! If you have never made this amazing sauce… you must! It’s addictive!
Zucchini loves living in my garden! They are the most prolific givers! If I don’t go out and get them every evening they can grow to baseball bat proportions! Here are their sunny blossoms!
GLAZED LEMON ZUCCHINI BREAD is my number one favorite garden to table sweet treat! It’s more like a cake than a bread. Delicate, moist and so so delicious! And isn’t it so beautiful?
ITALIAN STUFFED ZUCCHINI BOATS are a fabulous and yummy way to get your veggies! Lots of great Italian flavors and so pretty too!
If you have never had an onion from the garden you are missing something wonderful! We grow Candy Sweet onions and they are amazing!!!! Once they are harvest we put them on a bed of newspaper on a long table in the garage until the outer skin gets papery. It doesn’t smell very nice, but it’s worth the smell when you bite into a slice!
GRILLED VEGGIES WITH BALSAMIC BASIL DRESSING is a summer staple at StoneGable! We pack veggies on the grill and then drizzle them with this heavenly dressing that can be used to marinade meats too. We eat them hot and cold!!! Summer’s best!
Pear tomatoes are my very favorite kind. They are firm and sweet and filled with that classic tomato taste even thought they don’t look classic at all! This year we grew them on our patio because they are such prolific producers we can hardly keep up with them!
PANZANELLA SALAD is the perfect summer salad. It’s a bread and tomato salad from Tuscany! If you have never made this, make sure you do. It is bellissimo!
Can I let you in on a secret? I think growing corn in a garden is overrated! One stalk yields about 2 ears. I’ve grown corn in the past but this year I’m heading to the CORN WAGON. It’s a Lancaster icon for fresh fruits and veggies right from the fields. Here is a picture from my garden two years ago. This year I’m freezing lots! Summer corn in the winter is a real treat!
ROASTED CORN AND BACON CHOWDER is a decedent meal in a bowl. So full of fresh farm flavors and sweet cream and bacon. What could be better? Well, what if you served it with homemade beer bread. Oh, yes!!!!
Cucumbers are a family favorite! This year we have four plants and two varieties. They also are great producers. Every evening I go out and fill my bushel basket at least half full with cukes!
GARLIC DILL REFRIGERATOR CUCUMBERS are so so easy to make and taste better than any store-bought pickle you have ever tasted. They are crisp, garlicky, puckery and GOOOD! Really!!! I can’t keep them in the frig. They go so fast!
CUCUMBER SALAD is something I make weekly all summer long. I think it’s best the next day for lunch. You will love this too!
I probably could add several more garden to table recipes… but that’s my 10 for today!!!! I hope you will try at least one of these StoneGable tested summer garden recipes! Summer flavors are at their peak right now so take advantage of them!
