Make a set for yourself and one as a gift!

I used about 4 feet of  3/8 inch jute for each coaster. I had a big spool of jute on hand. You can get it at your local hardware or craft store or on Amazon.

Start by rolling the jute in a circle gluing it as you go. You will have to hold the jute circle together until it dries in the beginning of your circle. After that you can clip it with a clothespin.

Don’t worry if you can see the hot glue (you will take care of hot glue later).

I made my coaster about 4 1/2 inches in diameter.

Hold a blow dryer, on the hottest setting, close to the coaster and let the glue melt into the jute. You might need to go over the hot glue with your finger to smooth it out. Be careful, it can be hot!

  1. These are so cute. I’m definitely going to make some. I think it would be fun to make a larger one for a trivet to put under casserole dishes. Or even a planter. I am so glad you got your site corrected. I couldn’t figure out what was happening when I tried to read your blog the other day.

  2. Hi, Yvonne! I just read your post on making Zesty Ranch Crackers. Why do you use popcorn oil? Does it have more flavor that vegetable oil?
    Thanks!

Love Karen’s idea of making a larger one for a trivet. You have the greatest group of fans. Have never read anything negative from your groupies – not like some of the cooking websites. It must be your great example.

  4. Hi Yvonne,
What a super easy little craft. I can’t wait to try it. Also made your “napkin eggs”. So fun and easy. I added a little glitter to mine too. Having my girlie friends for dinner Friday night and can’t wait to show them off. Thanks for keepin’ it easy 🙂

Thank you for anther fun and easy craft! I made your pansy shortbread cookies yesterday for a tea party. They turned out beautifully and tasted great. I have also been blowing out my eggs to make your tissue eggs this week. I love your work. Your blog inspires me and my home more than you could ever know!

  7. Such a cute Ida’s! Yeah I got to log on …..
    Be blessed

  8. Thanks for bringing this idea to us, I made these, and bigger ones many years ago with a group of Church teens, we didn’t have hot glue back then so sewed them together with waxed thread, native american style basket weaving. Hot glue will be faster. Love your ideas – have some eggs ready for doing up pretty. God bless

I love your idea. Question: Do you think they would be more absorbent glued to a cork circle. Just thinking about damaging the finish on a piece of furniture.

    1. No, I think they are just fine the way they are. They are very absorbent.

Love these. My daughter with much much help at age FOUR did one with a thinner jute glued onto a cardstock. I think for them to twine around. But I see how these would make a great guy gift as there are never enough coasters!! I’m saving this idea!!!

  11. Thanks Yvonne for this Easy Jute Coaster DIY! It looks easy enough for even me to try :). I was thinking of making it with white rope for a summer nautical look and love the suggestion of making a large one for a trivet. I also checked out your previous post on Pottery Barn Inspired Rope Wrapped Candleholder DIY https://www.stonegableblog.com/rope-wrapped-candleholder/ and think they make a great combination with this one. Do you think the white rope would work as well?
