Fall and my farmhouse kitchen are like best friends! They work and play so well together! The colors of fall were made for my black and white farmhouse kitchen! I love the smells and tastes that come from my kitchen when the leaves start to turn! And there is a coziness and deep felt warmth in my kitchen when there is a nip in the air. However, we are not quite into my favorite season yet, but I am ready to bring a little early fall to my farmhouse kitchen.
My farmhouse kitchen gets a lot of use! So I tend to keep decorations to a minimum. The soapstone counters have been rubbed down with mineral oil to make them shine. I do this once a week. I’ve changed out a galvanized tray for a woven basket to hold our coffee bar. I’m using more baskets in the kitchen for a warmer look as the weather starts to get chilly!
Coffee mugs hang from a bottle dryer.
The black and white check Courtley MacKenzie-Childs pieces make such a statement in the glass front cupboards above the cooktop! I love these cheery pieces!!! I’m slowly collecting them… they are a great farmhouse addition!
The design in back of the cooktop is hopefully being ripped out this fall. After living with it for 3 years, I still don’t care for it. I’ll probably go all white to work with the rest of the white in the kitchen.
A long bench I had made years ago gets my sunflowers and lanterns up and off of the island! When I serve a buffet I like to put the dishes on it as well as some seasonal decor. To me, this bench looks like fall! The worn black painted legs and the rich wooden top have a rustic feel.
Don’t you love sunflowers? We have fields of them in Lancaster Co! But don’t let mine fool you… they are good fakes! Real sunflowers are quite messy. So I found some realistic artificial ones and use them year to year!
The interesting and simple lanterns came from my local Pottery Barn Outlet, and they were on a major sale!!! I put battery operated candles in them and they looks so pretty lit every evening!
The little cart by the island is the next thing to get a fall makeover! It’s still full of dinnerware we use on the patio… in about a month I’ll be switching them out for more fall friendly dishes!
My little breakfast room right off the kitchen is also seeing some fall inspired changes! I’m not quite ready to bring out the pumpkins, but apples are perfect for now!
My very favorite vignette to create is one for my kitchen table. It’s fun to open my cupboards and create!!! I used a black and white and green color scheme when I put together this early fall centerpiece. These colors are spectacular together and my favorite combination!
The late blooming hydrangea tree out back is now in full bloom. Bobby and I transplanted it this spring and were very surprised it bloomed! By October these delicate blooms will take on a citron and dusty pink hue. I’m planning on using them in a fall wreath.
My wellies and garden basket sit near the back kitchen door in the breakfast room. Even when it rains, you will find me in the garden!
Milk bottles and cups sit in a galvanized tray. To see more FARMHOUSE VINTAGE click HERE.
Thanks for visiting me in my farmhouse kitchen! What fall decor are you working on now?
