  1. White always works for me too, it makes everything clean and fresh. In our 200 year old farmhouse in France we put in a completely new contemporary kitchen, all white; white units, white sinks, white backsplash. However this contrasts with natural oak shelving, a traditional terracotta tiled floor, fireplace, chandelier and antique walnut table. The juxtapostion of the two, antique and modern with the bright white to keep it light work really well. I have to admit I love our kitchen, like yours, it is the heart of our home.

I loved today’s ideas! I started redecorating my kitchen last year using white dishes, pitchers and other accessories because I was so inspired by your kitchen. My cabinets aren’t white, they’re a rich oak and still in good condition. When they begin to fade or age, I want to paint them a creamy white. But until then they’ll stay oak. In the meantime, I have freshened up my kitchen with a lot of white ceramic accents, including some roosters and even an owl! Almost everything was purchased at discount stores such as Home Goods. Even Target carries some neat white ceramics that would go great in a farmhouse style kitchen. My kitchen has a little French country flare to it, but the white accents really look great in any kitchen! It’s just a clean, crisp, classic look that won’t go out of style and you don’t have to spend a ton of money. I just started collecting and I love it! I think one of my favorite things about white is it goes with every season as well. I love adding candy canes and red striped ribbons at Christmas to cups, pitchers and vases.

My sister’s mother-in-law, who is quite wealthy and could afford any kind of dishes, always said she picked white dishes because they were so versatile and could be mixed in with any other dishes she had.
