NO SEW BEAUTIFUL SPRING TABLE RUNNER- A step-by-step tutorial for making a one of a kind tablerunner

I love designer textiles! When I see a beautiful piece of fabric I get weak in the knees! And the thought of making something special for my home from a fabulous piece of cloth is extremely satisfying! It’s like making a one-of-a-kind piece of usable art! I love the utilitarian aspect of fabric. I think of aprons and pillowcases and dish towels and napkins and pillows and seat cushions and table runner. Oh, I do swoon over gorgeous fabric! I’m on a personal mission to have my non-sewing friends find the charm and pleasure of making something for their home from fabric that those who sew have long known.

Let’s get busy! This is not a hard project, but I’m giving you very baby step-by-step instructions with lots of images. I want to to love your table runner and the process! I hope you make a hundred table runners!

NO SEW BEAUTIFUL SPRING TABLE RUNNER- A step-by-step tutorial for making a one of a kind tablerunner

Here’s what you will need to make this SPRING TABLE RUNNER:

2 YARDS OF FABRIC FOR CENTER OF TABLE RUNNER (Preferable Simply Eclectic Fabric from Hoffman Fabrics) I used TEAK SWIRL

1 1/2 YARDS OF FABRIC FOR TRIM (Preferable Simply Eclectically Fabric from Hoffman Fabrics) I used BEIGE STRIPE

Fusible Webbing Tape 1/2 inch wide

INSTRUCTIONS:

Iron all fabric before cutting it.

I have a 48 inch round breakfast room table. I wanted my table runner to be the length of the table and hang over the edge by about 5 inches on each end. You can adjust the cuts of fabric to work with your table.

The overall dimensions of my finished table runner is: 15 inches wide and 58 inches long.

Measure and cut out all pieces.

I like to work on an ironing board to put the table runner together.

Let’s start fusing!!!!!

We are going to fuse the top and bottom END TRIM to the MAIN SECTION of the table runner.

Here’s an image of how it looks when it is finished. The TOP and BOTTOM ENDS are larger than SIDE A and B.

Put the TOP END and MAIN SECTION right sides together so that edge #2 and 3 are together.

Cut a piece of fusible webbing tape the length of the fabric and  sandwich it between the fabrics so that one edge of the webbing is flush with the edges #2 and 3 of the fabric. Iron according to directions. *ALL SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE 1/2 INCH.

When the fabric is cool flip the TOP END up so it is right side up and press the crease open.

Fuse the BOTTOM END to the MAIN SECTION using the same technique. Fuse edges 4 and 5 together. Press open.

Easy peasy so far…Great job!!!!

Now, let’s work on the sides. Here’s how they look when they are finished. Beautiful fabric, right?

With right sides together fuse SIDE A and the MAIN SECTION AND TOP END (they are all one piece now) together along edges 12 and 13.Cut a piece of fusible webbing tape the same length of the SIDE. Sandwich the webbing between the fabric making sure that one edge of the fusible webbing tape is flush with the edges of 12 and 13. Iron according to product directions to fuse. Open and press open seams.

Fuse the SIDE B to the MAIN SECTION AND TOP END using the same technique as above. Also see image below.

Now to finish edges 11 and 16.

Turn the table runner over to the wrong side. Fold edge 11 over to just cover the seam made by fusing edges 12 and 13 together. Iron fold. Cut a piece of fusible webbing tape the length of the SIDE.  Sandwich the fusible webbing tape down the length of the table runner in between the fabric making sure the one edge of the webbing is flush with edge #11. Iron according to directions. Press.

Finish the edge (#16) of SIDE B. See image below to see how it should look.

Thank you, I’m referencing this post for the future!
    Fondly,
