AN UPDATE ON MY SON AND THE POWER OF PRAYER

AN UPDATE ON MY SON

I just can’t say this enough… THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART! Many of you are still praying for Christopher and asking how he is doing. I still get lots of emails and messages every week asking me to update you on my son’s recovery. So today, 10 weeks out from surgery, I thought I’d let all my StoneGable friends know how my son is doing!  I am sure prayer played a huge role in his recovery and will continue to do so in the final outcome of his long road back to perfect health…

Today Christopher is walking! Without crutches. Without a cane. Just walking! It is a real miracle!!!

This is his second Periacetabular Osteotomy or PAO. You can google it if you are interested but here’s the short version… Chris’ pelvis was cut apart and screwed back together. His left pelvis was operated on 20 months ago because his left leg bone kept coming out of its socket when he walked or ran. And this past January Chris had a right PAO for the same reason.

Not an easy surgery. We traveled to Philadelphia to have the surgery done because there are very few physicians that do this rare procedure. A PAO has only be done in the last 10 years. Before that a person with my son’s condition would find themselves wheelchair bound for life. And because this is such an invasive and difficult surgery it is usually only preformed on someone who is young. Even then, no one can say to what degree a patient will recover to full health and mobility.

Christopher’s first PAO was l-o-n-g and arduous and the recovery was brutal! It took him 14 months to fully recover. He was hospital bed bound, then used crutches and then used a cane for months and months.

This current PAO was a totally different story. 10 weeks out and my son is walking without any assistance, albeit slowly! He is still in quite a bit of pain, but he tolerates that well. We are more than shocked and pleased by his miraculous recovery. And he will, according to his surgeon, make a full recovery! It has astounded all of us, Chris’ surgeons, nurses and physical therapists.

This brings me to you! There is no doubt that it was because of the 3,000 prayers, actual written out prayers, that were taken before the Throne of Grace on Christopher’s behalf. I received them on my Facebook page, in emails, texts and phone calls! All within a 24 hour period! They sustained us during surgery! God bent down in His great mercy and grace to do a miracle in my son’s life!

And those prayers did not stop! Since my son’s surgery I still receive so many prayers for him. All from YOU my dear readers… my friends!

Thank you for praying when I could not. Thank you for using this powerful weapon on my son’s behalf when I was so weak from fear and worry! When the prayers started pouring in the morning of Christopher’s surgery I started feeling God’s presence. I prayed what you prayed. I was so grateful for every single prayer. Because I could pray with you. And I did. I read every single good thought, read every name that “liked” my request for prayer, and read every prayer in union with the sender. All in all, over 7,000!

Prayer is our only defensive weapon against this fallen world and the powers of evil! But we have been equipped with the BEST and most powerful weapon! We need to use it always!

God knows what we want and need, but He wants us to let Him know. It’s a sign of submission and leaning on God alone! God is filled to overflowing with grace and mercy and power and favor and more. He knows what is best and will act accordingly. We can and should make our requests known to our Father in heaven.  Just 10 weeks ago thousands of dear souls did and God healed my son.

It is God who is glorified in this healing! I hope when you hear of Christopher’s recovery you see our marvelous Father in all His power and might healing my son and you too give Him thanks!

On Easter Sunday Chris was out in the backyard with our family throwing the football and he even ran (well hobbled) a little. When I look at Christopher I see a strong, determined, healthy and happy young man. I see thousands of praying people lifting their petitions to the only Source of heath, healing and wholeness and I am more than grateful!

Today, Christopher and his beautiful, sweet wife Abigail are both doing well and are better from what they have endured as a young married couple. They love each other and are enjoying their new home, their jobs and are crazy about their dog Beau The Wonderdog! God works in strange and wondrous ways!

Please continue to pray and ask God to finish the work in Christopher He started! And pray for the private prayer and desire of Chris’ heart!

Memory verse this week:

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. Psalm 37:4 and 5.

  8. Much is the love God bestows on us in our time of need! As a person who had spinal cancer and had to learn to walk again, I know GOD is with us and shows HIS hand as we struggle. I experienced people who did not have HIS hand and saw that their recovery was much harder than mine. God was there and He made my road to recovery much easier and I use that as my testimony to my full recovery. The faith your son has will make the road much easier than those who don’t. What a lovely couple! What a good looking couple. may they walk in his full light during their marriage.

I am so happy to hear the wonderful report of your sons recovery, my friend. God woke me up a few weeks ago at 2am, to pray for him, and I didn’t even know what his problem was. Had just read your blog, and saw the pic of he and his wife, you put out as he was going for surgery. My name is Chris also!! Short for Christine, maybe that was the connection. But I prayed through the night. God is Good!! I will pray from Canada, for his recovery. So enjoy your blog!!

  21. Thank you for sharing your story with us all. Prayer does work!!! Heavenly Father is mindful of all of us and will answer our prayers in the way He feels is best. As you said, they know what we need, they want us to come to them. Through the Holy Spirit we can see and feel of the immense love they all have for us. Press forward with a steadfastness in Christ!

I did not know about your son, but I am so happy he is doing so well. I know that power of prayer.

I still have issues with my liver, but nothing that I can’t handle.
There were prayers said around the clock for me, and my mom tells me people still ask “How is your daughter doing”.
So I know how you felt. God is so good and I am so blessed to have the family I have and all those people who prayed for me.

God Bless you and your family’
I will add your son to my prayer list.
    Have a wonderful Sunday.
    Much love,
    Rose

Such wonderful news Yvonne. I resonated with your comment about feeling the relief which comes when you are so overwhelmed by all that is going on but you know that others are doing the praying when you feel you cannot. It is hard to explain but you know it when it happens in your life. May Christopher and Abigail continue to thrive and blessings to you and your family.

BTW, my son had Derotational Osteotomys done when he was younger due to his Cerebral Palsy (they cut the femur and rotate it back into the hip) and it was a nightmare and I can only imagine cutting the pelvis would be even more painful. So glad things are looking up for you guys!

I’m so relived to hear that Christopher is healing so much faster this time. To have endured this rare surgery twice in short order and to heal so much faster the second time is, undoubtedly, because you were allowed to post the surgery on your blog, Yvonne.

    And let the prayin’ begin!
